Matthew Strong Actually, I already know how people see Apple. Whenever a brand becomes popular, everyone else decides to join the trend. They don't care about what features the product has. All they care about is looks and popularity. And no, other companies made their own thing before Apple came along and got all of the fame because of Steve Jobs. For example, multi-touch, the smartphone, the mp3 player, the laptop, and the tablet all existed far before Apple introduced products of their own. In fact, other products out there were just fine in what they were made for, but no one cared. The reason why, is because everyone thought that those products weren't needed. Then, when Apple introduced their pretty devices, everyone took notice and immediately assumed that the better it looks, the better it is. Like I said, Apple is just like Beats by Dre. There are better smartphones and there are better headphones. Apple and Beats by Dre only seem better because of all the hype that they're getting. One more thing, the world does not revolve around Apple. It's a shame that many people always think that way. Then again, many of them are hipsters...
Aero I feel there is a market and purpose to using Apple phones, but most people just follow the brand and not the features. I was at a house with a LG G2, and i needed to charge my phone. If i asked for a micro usb charger they wouldnt know wtf i was saying, so i asked for a samsung charger (again branding). Their response was "we arent poor we have iphones". And believe me this isnt the 1st or 2nd time i heard people think they are elitist based on using an outdated iphone.
Aero Apple bashing! Apple used to be the go to computer for audio, video and graphic arts up until the late 90s. This was due to a faster OS and of course Adobe. Today, 2014, this is no longer relevant with Unix (Apple kernel), Linux (Unix), Windows 8+, as we have choices. Adobe started porting over their products to Windows in the 80s, but today their iOS and WinOS products function alike. We all have to admit that if it wasn't for Jobs, we'd still be buying ugly. He revolutionized form design in the IT industry, if not, other industries too. A lot more development is looking at aesthetics as never before, thanks to Mr. Jobs. I like pretty, good looking things like everyone else, I would pay a little (2-5%) more for pretty, but not at the cost of functionality and quality. Example are products from LaCie, pretty, functional and quality, but almost 50% more expensive. Apple, like Sony and Panasonic love their own proprietorial world in which we cannot share and the tech naïve don't know better. Therefore one cannot swap cables and adaptors from one device to another. That's why I never owned an Apple product, got burned by Sony and Pana. If someone owns a Mac, chances are great that they will buy an iPhone. About those elitists, let them think what they want. If someone wants to argue, I just show them what I can do with my tech and ask them if they could do the same. I barely touch my Android phone, I talk to it, it talks to me. It also controls my PC and MediaMonkey controls all my audio, video, radio, podcasts including streaming. PS. I didn't buy my HP for Beats, I bought it because it was the only 17" touchscreen laptop available at a decent price and WiDi. Strange that Apple used to have a 17" laptop, but no more???
Frankie W Apple didn't revolutionize anything for the IT industry. When has Apple created anything new that has created a new market? I can answer that for you. Never. All they do is steal other companies designs, tweak it a bit, and place that Apple logo on it.
OKAY EVERYONE! LETS EXPLAIN SOMETHING HERE! First off, everyone has a different taste and opinion. But lets look at some hard facts. Beats audio headphones have the same quality as a lot of $50 - 90 headphones. Some people get tricked into buying these headphones and think they sound god because of the boosted frequencies. Hence all the fanboys that say they are worth the money. Beats audio is not the true sound that artists and mixing/mastering/recording engineers want you to hear.. with beats audio, they are messing with the entire mix of the song and therefor complete change how the original was supposed to sound. Its not a true accurate mix. Some people like that. Some people think it sounds good. Some people dont give a crap of how the song was meant to be heard. People are going to buy beats because they like that crappy sounding sound. Let them be.
Nothing better explained than this. I've been into music as a guitar player and can tell any sennheiser HD 400 series which are mid quality would sound better than any beats audio for the reason that the sennheiser are just made for professionals with true sound engineering background. If you want an eargasm on your android phone, get any mid range sennheiser like HD 439 or HD 449 + noozxoide app and forget about the crappy beats headphones.
1:06 Marketing says Beats is supposed to be an exact representation of what the artist wants you to hear? If the artist wanted any EQ in the mix it would have been done it in the studio. Try using good headphones. No EQ is needed.
Every single audio manufacturer has a list of innovations making their audio so much better than the competition. Roughly speaking, audio can be placed in a two axis graph, one axis indicating how "nice" it sounds, the other axis indicating how "good" it sounds. "Nice" is a matter of opinion, "good" is factual as it represents audio accuracy (how close it is to the original recording). Beats audio is aimed at sounding nice, rather than good. I'm an audiophile, I've listened to exotic audio designs as well as conservative designs, I've listened to $10 audio systems all the way up to various >$100K systems where the cables cost more than all beats products combined. If you want to be as close as possible to the original recording, simply don't buy beats labeled products of any kind, as you can get far better sound for the same price. I hate unchecking the "Also share on Google+" checkbox on each comment, with passion.
The SGS4 has a hearing test though, so you can get adjuster per ear. I dont have perfect hearing, so for me this is great! It also asks which ear you use for calls (while not on handsfree)
Samidh Chowdhury, its not vague. HTC makes two equalizers: On and Off. Theire Off is not Off, its a "negative" EQ. An EQ that is also modified, yet modified to make "on" sound incredible. Its like if I am in the oven selling bussiness and in my bulding, I make all my customers walk though a very cold entrance. They then freeze.. so when they enter the room with my oven, they will enjoy the heat much more. Its about contrasts and its not a better oven, I have just modified how it will feel.
Samidh Chowdhury Not only have I heard of price/performance ratio, it's the sole reason I don't recommend Beats audio products and the reason I wrote my audio quality clarification comment in the first place. Their performance (regarding audio accuracy) isn't great for the price tag, which is exactly what I previously explained.
I'm a bit late but I was at Best Buy and pretty much the same thing happened to me when shopping for a phone. After the guy told me to listen to beats audio on/off, I flatly told him: It's just an equalizer. Show me something without Beats Audio. He hurriedly showed me another phone. xD
"Everyone's got an EQ, figure out yours" The perfect wrap-up to this and any debate about Beats Audio Products, and the most sound advice I've heard in a while! You sir, are awesome, and I'm subscribed for life.
Great video and break down so the average person can understand. Similar tactics have been used in selling electronics for years. My family used to own a chain of TV / Stereo Stores back in the 80's . If we wanted to push the sells of a certain TV, we would adjust its display unit to provide it's best picture and adjust the other display TV's to not look so good. In our stereo demo room, we had a sub that we would have set at a rather low level, but tie it in with certain small bookshelf speakers we were pushing. Customers were always amazed at the lows they were hearing from such small speakers. We always told them how speakers sounded different when placed in different rooms due to acoustics. This covered our asses when they got home and that amazing low end vanished.
I agree, Marques does such a great job of explaining and illustrating seemingly complex technology. He makes it easy for a non-techie person like me to understand it.
+GUS GRAND Or the Smile Curve or The Old Metallica V setting Bass & Highs up & the Mid;s down. I used that for a while but a LOT of the good stuff is in the Mid's. Also Live you gotta have some Mids to cut thru the mix. Yea I was thing the same thing Gus.
I love this guy, he makes the best etch videos. He explains everything you need to know. No Hype, No bullshit, and he doesn't talk to you like you are a 5 year old. You the man Marques.
The thing with beats is that if you want to hear something like power metal with background Vocals (eg Sabaton) it will just sound like you are driving over 20 cats at the same time.
beats audio was made for rap or skrillex/dubstep because of the bass they wernt made for stupid ass metal or any other music if u listen to metal u should bye skull candys
Amon Crider skull candies are more for bass too bro, you obviously havent listened to them to hear how they sound, and what is it to your concern of what he/she is listening to or hearing? mind your own damn business
I don't think anyone who listens to metal thinks "hmm, I want this metal to sound better, oh I know, I'm gonna buy some beats!" They're endorsed by a rap artist for a reason, not a metal artist.
My laptop from 2011 has beats audio built in, (I uninstalled the equalizer just to test) and the headphone jack actually sounds worse than the jack on my gaming PC's 2014 motherboard (it's not a high end motherboard either, ASrock miniatx pro4), and it has none of those special features.
Back in the 80's, sony released DOL (Dynamic Optimum Loudness) which later on became Mega Bass. It was a rather complex dynamic EQ that boosted the entire spectrum rather than a fixed one with preset EQ like in modern devices. And god, it sounds awesome.
I always listen with beats off. so what you are saying my HTC one has been making music purposefully sound bad all this while? so how do we have audio that's not tampered with an equalizer? Without flashing roms hopefully.
I love your videos. You're so skilled and experienced. Your videos are developed in such a professional way. I've chosen my smart phone (htc) after your review and I'm completely satisfied with it. I'd buy it one million times! Really great work!!! Congratulations!
Nice talk. I would have hoped that it'd clear the deck a bit, but people are still going in circles over one audio "technology" or another. On stereo amplifiers--old ones, anyhow--there was a switch labelled "LOUDNESS." In the ON position, high and low frequencies are boosted. Turning the volume knob up increases (theoretically,) the amplitude (strength) of all the frequencies equally. When high & lows are boosted, you get a "louder" sound. When you apply equalization (the process of selectively boosting or dropping particular frequency ranges,) you do it _for a particular purpose_. Applying EQ for listening, you're adjusting the sound for specific music, played through particular speakers, playing into whatever physical space you're in. With any 10 listeners, you'll get 3 or 4 different EQs. Any "technology" that makes music "better" with the flip of a switch is just adding sparkle and pop. Spend 2 hours listening to MAXIMUM SPARKLE + POP and your ears will be completely fatigued. Music without it will seem dull and lifeless. It's like cranking the color saturation, brightness, and contrast all the way up on a TV set. Looks great in a big, bright, active department store, but you can't always watch movies like that. You totally miss out on spectrums of tone and shadow. Everything becomes a cartoon. Unfortunately, that's exactly what's been happening in music production over the past 20-25 years. The loudness wars, they call it. Music is losing dynamic range (the amount of acoustic space--amplitude range--that music occupies,) and it's all CRANKED TO THE MAX. If you like music--if you care about it at all--take time to listen to well-recorded, well-engineered music. Any genre, doesn't matter. It's like we're eliminating words for colors. All we see is a tiny bunch--seven... ten... maybe a dozen colors. But there are more. A LOT more.
Wow, I didn't know that beats audio turned off still effects sound, that sort of sucks. Really helpful video, I don't think I'd ever buy a beats audio product cuz of that.
It's all about quality of the speakers, cables for the speakers (it's still an analog signal, and has to be so we can process it), and the equalizer you like.
Ex Best Buy employee here. The only way we were trained with any of the tech we sell was by completing short learning segments (provided by the manufacturer) on a computer before we sell it. As far as some Best Buy employees know, Beats actually IS awesome. I remembered that whenever someone wanted to buy a $500 pair of Beats headphones, I would try to convince them to save $100-200 and get Bowers and Wilkins headphones (overall higher quality) instead. It was really disappointing to see that people would be so intent on getting something with that logo on it that they STILL bought them. Ever since working there, I've realized that every time there's a pair Beats sold, one of the people involved was either uninformed or stupid.
Beats is just a con... you hit the nail on the head. Some quoontes sat around a table and said "how can we fool these idiots into buying crap that costs us nothing to make and pretend that it is better than anything else out there and they will pay loads for it." Someone else who was moonlighting from Apple said this, "Easy... a big label and lots of lies in the marketing". There you go.
For people who buy Beats audio, it's not about the audio quality, it's about having Beats audio. They've made themselves the "Mac" of headphones. So much dumb.
I really like your videos, especially about Beats by Dre. Because also you kinda get kinda interested in the way companies marketing works and that's something many people don't understand. I'm now getting a lot more interested in how marketing companies sell their products. So thanks a lot man; i think you're doing a really great job on your videos! Keep it up! Props from Germany (y)
Skull Candy actually does a solid job of enhancing the tone for their headphones. I prefer them to just about any of the high dollar name headphones. I bought several Skull Candy UpRocks for under $ 20 and while the product is plastic & cheap feeling, they still are comfortable. the sound that comes thru the headset & even their earbuds is quite good. There's another brand of ear buds that also are a fantastic value, "Ear Pollution". The upside to the plastic or even anodized body ear buds/headphones for under $ 20, they're lightweight and that they don't feel like you been wearing them for a long time for those longer sessions of music listening. You don't have to drop Benjamin(s) to get phenomenal sound quality. Headphones really are ultra-low power, otherwise you'll be damaging your ear drums & anything that has to do with hearing.
This is so weird. Sound engineers & producers try to release the best mix they can, to sound the best on every device, but nearly every company sells products that distort your sound. People will never realise that these sound engineers aren't gods, that produce music that is made for some type of speakers (beats promises it will sound like the artist wants it to). In principal all you can do is to get the most linear speakers you can get for your money, that is what producers use, and that is what it sounds like for the producer. These are the most important things for good audio quality in terms of linear audio reproduction: - Lossless high resolution audio files (WAV/AIFF/FLAC @16bit or higher) - Linear stereo speakers/headphones (for exact audio reproduction) - A good absorbing room (speakers only) [I know its impossible to get a perfect room for the casual, but many reflections caused by mirrors, windows and other hard surfaces will cause a terrible reverb that disturb your experience.] Any other opinion is not true. Sry but this is everything that matters. If you are not very audiophile, you may not want this, but than you should not care about this comment. Stay tuned :]
I explained the exact thing to 2 or 3 replies. Mediocre people don't want to know about the lossless experience. For them high Bass and shitty mp3 (by shitty it would mean 128kbps) are all that matter.
Anuj Chitale no i heard the difference between 320 128, more then the difference between 320 and 760 or above in flacs. but that difference is almost nothing unless you are trying to look for it, by comparing a single song with 128 to 320 or flac, then the difference is easy to see. but from song to song it doesn't matter and its fine as long as you have the highest.
I have a pair of headphones I found on Amazon for around $99. They're called the Bluedio R+ Legend. I have seen all your headphone reviews and was looking for a Bluetooth capable product. I have been very impressed with these headphones and although they aren't mainstream headphones, the sound quality is exceptional. Not only are they Bluetooth compatible, they also have NFC capability, a micro SD card slot, and the ability to connect a phone and make phone calls on the headphones. Of course it comes with a connection wire to plug into audio jacks for those who don't have Bluetooth. I was hoping you could take a look at them and maybe review them. I know you have graduated and your probably gonna have a lot of time to do reviews, so I thought this might interest you. The packaging even came with a output response chart, so you know they have something right. P.S. I'm pretty sure this product isn't made in America, but it should do just fine.
MTS those are more of a studio type of headphones with no audio enhancements, for the average consumer who thinks beats add a somewhat value to the device it is a 1+ for htc
If beats were like 60 bucks I'd buy them 200 bucks is ridiculous. I think anyone who owns them are a fool. Yet then again I'm not a sheep in the society norms.
This is a perfect example of what musicians do. I play violin, and in an orchestra to have a greater effect before some dramatic crescendo we usually drop the sound "volume" exaggeratingly low before bringing them back up louder than ever. It makes our louds sound louder and vice versa. Just a connection that came to my mind.
But it's an eq, there are programs for that, that do the same thing, all you're buying is the right to say you have "good" sound because you have beats audio, some people would prefer to choose how they'd like their eq set up, if they even want one at all. I guess on the phones you can't do that, but I still wouldn't say that "buying it for the name" is a good idea as anyone who knows about audio that you show that hp laptop to and tell them how good it is because it has beats audio will probably just laugh, the phone, maybe, just because it's harder to eq everything on a phone, but the point still stands. So hundreds of dollars "paying for the name" or spending less than an hour with a free program that you can change to how ever you'd like it to sound. Actually never mind that, just get yourself some nice headphones, they have eqs built in. And no, beats do not qualify as "nice headphones," from a technical standpoint anyway.
Ponte Fiasco He talked about this on the video.. It is just an EQ.. Beats Audio phones just doesn't do it by default unless you turn it on. Do you even watch the video :I? It is all a scam, it is not some magical program that makes music better lol.
Also a good thing to have tone MKB is to tune the other laptops EQ to match the beats sound profile to see if consumers can get the same sound. good vid
Thank man. I've just come across your site and watched a few videos. There are really informative. Great content and less fluff. You're a great communicator too. Thanks!
FirstLastNoName don't be so quick to say that, ive tried skullcandy, plantronics, bose, auido technicas, shures. I have to be honest audio technicas are great but i like a more bass heavy sound
Harry cubeguy You probably haven't tried any of the new Skullcandy headphones enabled with Supreme Sound. Specifically the Crushers, they leave the Solo HD's eating dirt! And the ideal rival of the studios being the Mix Masters. beats are some overrated and overpriced headphones, with the same manufacture process of your average made in china headphones. Adding the name of a rapper to the branding, which is pretty much dead now, doesn't make any difference honestly.
Hey MKB SUPER VID and great on camera personality !!! What camera/hardware did you use to produce this vid ? I liked the way the phone slowly spun around. And how did you produce the slide with the voice over ? I am a nubie and really want to understand and do a good job ! thanks alot !!!
Classic marketing Bullshit. When music is composed by producers that is how its meant to sound not to be messed with by equalizers. Of course if your listening to pop music and other mainstream crap like that Power to you keep being ignorant I envy you as has been said in a good movie "ignorance is bliss" and open eyes leave for being discontent 90% of the time. -.-
Oriole Alventa yup. my buddy bought an asus desktop from best buy that had NO CASE FANS. I had a laptop from them that would not stop crashing when it went into sleep mode. That same friends mom (after we told her not to) bought a laptop from best buy whose hard drive proceeded to fail. A year and three hard drives later it finally worked....
Chris Rogers Yup a Friend of mine was buying a brand new gaming PC and instead of listening to a few of us who know what we are doing with computers went to best buy long story short they gave him some shit Graphics card and spent the rest of his money on an extremely unnecessary power supply and now he is stuck with an overpriced crappy rig. I have literal hate for that store.
Basically it is features that most laptop computers already have. If the best feature, which what you said, is the beats equalizer, windows already comes with this.
Your left ear is more lame and broken then your right ear. Those beats are more valuable than your head, so of course your head will have problems before your beats has problems.
***** huh? one thing is not like a product, one thing is to hate, i have been working all my life at BOSE, and honestly beats are not the best, there are better brands out there..price -quality ratio..but hey..the hate?
John Jones Actually, he used to love beats, seriously, find his old vid and see what happened in those review about beats back then. He just changed when he found out his true love, the Audio Technica ATH M50.
Ok, this is one of the informative videos I have seen. A friend of mine and I were talking about beats audio where I read an article that they are not all that great, but never the why. I am now a subscriber. Thanks for the info.
Dude I just read your comment and I was curious so I decided to try and search and download the Razer Virtual Surround and it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Thanks!
My HP Envy laptop came with Beats Audio, but I didn't buy it for that reason. I listen to my music on old Sony MDR 7506 studio headphones, and I like an even playback response. I don't like some software algorithm screwing around with my listening experience, artificially boosting the bass. Other than that, I've got no real complaints with Beats Audio as implemented by HP.
Great insights, accurate info. One minor detail, you mentioned that headphones have their own EQ (equalizer) in them. While I get what you're saying, your wording could be misleading. While some audio products do have EQ circuitry built in, headphones (generally) do not. What they do have is a process that creates the freq response curve that they want in the drivers in the headphones. I have however seen one pair that actually advertises adjustable bass. In that regard its just a high pass filter or a literal bass EQ with a preset Q and level control for the selected frequencies----love the video however--- not a knock on that at all---just thought I'd share. Just found you today----Good job---I will subscribe.......System5guy
also a point, if you want this 'beats audio' you can get this on pretty much any device. just download an equalizer and turn up lows and highs and thats what you need. equalify mod for spotify is a good free option for spotify and comes with many presets
Genius ! I already knew this but it's nice to see someone explain it with precise facts in easy to understand way.. So kids don't get sucked into the beats marketing and hear music properly by looking into headphone etc reviewers .. The ones that know know a lot and know right.
I assumed Beats Audio was an equalizer when I first got my HTC One and switched it on and off but what I also assumed that might be debatable was that it had an "automatically adjusted" equalizer to deliver the best listening experience, which I might be wrong on that. Overall, I learned quite a bit from your videos and you earned a subscriber.
Awesome Video! You should point out that a perfectly flat frequency response is more ment to be in studiosetups than for hifi purpose. The goal is to get a sound that you like and not a perfectly flat frequency curve.
This is the most impressive review + reviewer I have ever watched because of so much knowledge and such great explanation. I have always known everything is just all about marketing. I myself use a pair of $8 earphones that sounds better than most $50 ear phones. It was one of the first silicone ear buds to come out in market and I am still using them over other brands.
Yeah! I noticed this! I was using my Beats on my phone, but it didn't seem to bring out the bass like it did on my Laptop with a Dolby Digital equalizer. I later found out that if I cranked up the bass on the Dolby equalizer, the headphones sounded like they should have.
My HP Pavilion p214dx came with beatsaudio and it sounds perfectly energetic like I would want my laptop to sound. I had a HP Probook with SRS Premium before and it sounded fine too. On my desktop though, I have an Asus Xonar D2 and for a sound card, that thing is phenomenal! While it wouldn't be comparing apples to apples, I would say that for beatsaudio, it's a good equalizer to make listening on the move enjoyable and fun...and at the same time I enjoy it almost as much as my Xonar D2, even though the Xonar D2 wins hands down when plugged into speakers. Basically, beatsaudio is nothing to be ashamed of if it came with your computer or phone, just because it's beats doesn't mean it's completely useless...just don't let it be the more important than the rest of the purchase, it should just be a "bell or whistle" that's an addition.
As an audiophile, I avoid anything with "Beats" in the name like the plague. They are the Apple Macs of the headphone world - classy looking, high prices and genius marketing, but when it comes down to it there's actually a lot of similar items with the same specs for half the price.
I'm glad you finally explained the exaggerated EQ portion of beats... Audiophiles bash them, but people like exaggerated highs and lows... so the headphone EQ is what they're buying over build and driver quality... I get it's not great, but people aren't monitoring audio, trying to identify imperfections or balance things... they just want to hear bass and contrast...
I have an HP laptop w/ the Beats Audio thing and the sound was a strong selling point but it had little to do with the Beats affiliation. It was the loudest laptop in the price range, And to be honest, the Beats software the comes with the laptop is much better than the stock Windows sound manager. More options, better eq, etc. It might be marketing BS for the most part, but its not useless if you actually know what you're doing, and how to get the most out of it. I also have the HTC One and I was hoping there was customization besides the on/off. I'd like to have dialed the bass down some, emphasize the mids a bit and tone down the highs.
People off the internet I discovered something with my HTC One m7. If you turn on the Beats Audio as well as having equalizer that you've perfected to perfect settings you can make up for all the mistakes of the Beats Audio as well as make it extremely well using such as an app like power amp for something with a built in equalizer. This leads to amazing audio sound and if you have the right equalizer a vast assortment of possible sounds.
It depends on the headphones I use. The stock buds that come with the phone sound better with the Beats profile enabled provided you don't max the volume out, but a good set of cans doesn't need the profile set to on.
This has been really insightful. I have wirless studio beats 2.0 and a htc one. I have noticed the differences between the two devices combined and seperate. I undertsand what it means to have beats now and the quality i will adapt from utalising both together. Thanks for your knowledge
I think the Dolby Hometheatre V4 software on my laptop is pretty much the same, although I like the fact that it has an equaliser built in so I don't really think its as much of a phony as beats audio. Its convenient to have an equaliser built into your audio driver. Plus the drivers are top grade so I think thats a good thing too.
Most people only care about lows. When they listen to my headphones that have good mids, they got blew away because they didn't know that headphones with good mids is actually pretty sweet.
60 hz hum went away when I plugged in a beats audio desktop compared to an Emachines desktop. Everything else identical. I thought maybe the noise was from a crummy cord, but that wasn't the case. Love it.
All I have to do to get the sound frequencies I like is turn on the Rock EQ in my phone which boosts all the things that I like. No need for a $300 pair of headphones, when I can get the same quality out of a $10 pair of earbuds and the right music EQ.
Why would you pay $400 for headphones if they make random people throw gallons of paint onto your face? Does not compute.
The people that are wearing then were payed to wear them. Beats gave them to the people gor free an dalso payed then for the advert
+The Curious Noob
Beats by Dre = Paint on ur face
Paint on ur face + Beats by Dre = Broken Beats by Dre
so u pay £150 or something for broken headphones and a purple face
+The Curious Noob
LOL hahaha
or green
The Curious Noob 😂
sounds like marketing BS

You put the definitive nail to the coffin Mr.
Congrats.
May16Joe Yeah dude.
Beats studio 2.0 sounded better then the m50's in my opinion.
You are right i have a beats studio and a panasonic of 20 bucks headphones and they sound with the same quality!!!
Never heard of anything more vague..ever heard of price performance ratio?
He hurriedly showed me another phone. xD
He's locked in my basement.
Omg wow
Morpha ive found your perfect replacement...
Morpha doctor dre?
"Everyone's got an EQ, figure out yours"
The perfect wrap-up to this and any debate about Beats Audio Products,
and the most sound advice I've heard in a while!
Your family was literally scamming people...
In the guitar world we call this "scooped"
thats what I was thinking!
+GUS GRAND I think in normal music/audio world it's still called scooped.
TheZooropaBaby Two Scoops lol
+GUS GRAND marshalls have a crazy scoop on the mids haha. especially on my plexi
Fuck off
I don't think anyone who listens to metal thinks "hmm, I want this metal to sound better, oh I know, I'm gonna buy some beats!" They're endorsed by a rap artist for a reason, not a metal artist.
^
My laptop from 2011 has beats audio built in, (I uninstalled the equalizer just to test) and the headphone jack actually sounds worse than the jack on my gaming PC's 2014 motherboard (it's not a high end motherboard either, ASrock miniatx pro4), and it has none of those special features.
+shut your face! lol wtf
idk, its weird. maybe the jack is damaged in some way, or maybe beats is just over hyped junk. either way, audio sounds better on my desktop.
+shut your face! ive read in hifi forums the same story. it seems beats are worse than chinese realtek built in mainboard DAC's
The first MKBHD video I’ve ever watched
The idea is simple, but it is actually really hard to replicate it. Try if you can actually find the equalizer setting and share with everyone.
1:32 This video was made by the same people that made Fallout 4.
Bethesda? Or are you on about vault tec?
+ollie-films vault tec
Back in the 80's, sony released DOL (Dynamic Optimum Loudness) which later on became Mega Bass. It was a rather complex dynamic EQ that boosted the entire spectrum rather than a fixed one with preset EQ like in modern devices. And god, it sounds awesome.
I always listen with beats off. so what you are saying my HTC one has been making music purposefully sound bad all this while? so how do we have audio that's not tampered with an equalizer? Without flashing roms hopefully.
You buy something that isnt tainted with the beats brand
Excellent video! GREAT JOB!
I love your videos. You're so skilled and experienced. Your videos are developed in such a professional way. I've chosen my smart phone (htc) after your review and I'm completely satisfied with it. I'd buy it one million times! Really great work!!! Congratulations!
I have the HTC One, same color and everything and i have always wondered what beatsaudio is thanks for explaining :)
Abyss For you eyez only
As a sound engineer, I approve this message
A LOT more.
I would avoid buying something with Beats Audio just because it looks tacky to have the logo on it.
Well, its like that HD logo on the TVs. Except it represents a high quality speaker instead of a screen.
Saturn carlover Did u even watch the video?
Sid B yeah... I take it back. But am using it to say that beats audio IS LIKE an HD sticker on a TV... its enhanced
You're so good at shading beats and stuff in general, so effortless😂😂
Ex Best Buy employee here.
The only way we were trained with any of the tech we sell was by completing short learning segments (provided by the manufacturer) on a computer before we sell it. As far as some Best Buy employees know, Beats actually IS awesome. I remembered that whenever someone wanted to buy a $500 pair of Beats headphones, I would try to convince them to save $100-200 and get Bowers and Wilkins headphones (overall higher quality) instead. It was really disappointing to see that people would be so intent on getting something with that logo on it that they STILL bought them. Ever since working there, I've realized that every time there's a pair Beats sold, one of the people involved was either uninformed or stupid.
sounds like doublethinking, 1984-2016
Omar St me? I just wanted to help the customer get the best quality for the best price.
a good man. i once said beats suck on the bus and everyone flipped. but they went silent after i asked why.
Love the Daft Punk poster in the back!!!
Maybe Beats Audio is just an equalizer but god damn it sounds nice. Quality is crystal clear
"below the like button below" very subtle
"Everybody's got an EQ, go figure out yours" Nice haha.
+Freddy Abraham hahaha i thought he said IQ
Lol
Beats = Marketing Brilliance
lol
Noticed that my new Nokia Icon has a "Dolby Headphones" setting, in the audio settings.
Would love to have Dolby Headphones explained! :)
Great job man, I knew your channel would explode like this man
For people who buy Beats audio, it's not about the audio quality, it's about having Beats audio. They've made themselves the "Mac" of headphones.
So much dumb.
When you so broke, it's 2016 and you still use your HTC One.
lol you're kidding right
+Pure Awesomeness I was actually serious XD
+¥ iDesign ¥ lmao you realise this was made 3 years ago
+Pure Awesomeness yep
+¥ iDesign ¥ I still have my m7 lol
I really like your videos, especially about Beats by Dre. Because also you kinda get kinda interested in the way companies marketing works and that's something many people don't understand. I'm now getting a lot more interested in how marketing companies sell their products. So thanks a lot man; i think you're doing a really great job on your videos! Keep it up! Props from Germany (y)
+Zumyt Official Beats by dre is their promotion, the company is just beats
I give you big Thumb up, many poeple still buy Beats because of this trick. Hope more people realize what it actually is.
I thinks Apple should consider watching this video before acquiring Dr.Dre (Beats Audio) company!
But since it's apple you get a flashy, hunk of junk to go with an equally flashy hunk of junk headphones.
These are the most important things for good audio quality in terms of linear audio reproduction:
- Lossless high resolution audio files (WAV/AIFF/FLAC @16bit or higher)
- Linear stereo speakers/headphones (for exact audio reproduction)
- A good absorbing room (speakers only) [I know its impossible to get a perfect room for the casual, but many reflections caused by mirrors, windows and other hard surfaces will cause a terrible reverb that disturb your experience.]
Any other opinion is not true.
Anuj Chitale bit rate means nothing. there are good 128kbps file that i have and then there are ones that i have that are noticable crap.
atlas :p Maybe not between 128kbps and 320kbps. But certainly between 128 and 760
Anuj Chitale no i heard the difference between 320 128, more then the difference between 320 and 760 or above in flacs.
but that difference is almost nothing unless you are trying to look for it, by comparing a single song with 128 to 320 or flac,
then the difference is easy to see.
but from song to song it doesn't matter and its fine as long as you have the highest.
You could say beats audio is " all about that bass"
That's right lol
All about that bass and nothing else.
A little trouble...
No treble
people would've said that 4 years ago
Who else is here in 2021
My keyboard has the 'b' on it... It does jack diddly shit.
I used to have the htc beats audio phone an it was dope I miss it alot
Here's the Beats company explained:
Take $40 sound cancelling headphones
EQ it
Sell it for $150.
LukeBogart That's actually basic business.
If only there was beats marketing for the ATH-M50s. There would be magic.
MTS those are more of a studio type of headphones with no audio enhancements, for the average consumer who thinks beats add a somewhat value to the device it is a 1+ for htc
Felony yo, this comment is 2 years old
Audio Technica is too busy spending money on sound quality innovation rather than justin beiber endorsements
no audio technica is making open back avaliable to everyone www.amazon.com/Technica-AUD-ATHAD500X-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B009S333U4
Wow your a genius man. How much time do you spend researching all this stuff!
This is econ 101
Bang & Olfsen is the king for laptop audio.
I think my laptops Dynaudio speakers are also pretty good
If beats were like 60 bucks I'd buy them 200 bucks is ridiculous.
Just a connection that came to my mind.
they are ok sound but you are buying a brand more than a product
True
I got this phone and beats audio is great! So don't hate.
Have to say the battery of the One sucks ass : /
It is not the beats audio that is great, it is the speakers or headphones.
When you switch out the beats audio, you hear the difference! :)
Ponte Fiasco He talked about this on the video.. It is just an EQ.. Beats Audio phones just doesn't do it by default unless you turn it on. Do you even watch the video :I? It is all a scam, it is not some magical program that makes music better lol.
Ponte Fiasco Did you even bother watching this video?
I watch again :p
Also a good thing to have tone MKB is to tune the other laptops EQ to match the beats sound profile to see if consumers can get the same sound. good vid
im drunk ,still impressed. . you just brainwashed me that beats is bad. . .no matter if the world ends ill say beats is bad to every one else. ..
How to get free beats audio:
Modify the equalizer.
Thank man. I've just come across your site and watched a few videos. There are really informative. Great content and less fluff. You're a great communicator too. Thanks!
I have some beats headphones and their really worth it, I actually feel like i'm in the song
You've probably never tried any other brand of headphones.
FirstLastNoName don't be so quick to say that, ive tried skullcandy, plantronics, bose, auido technicas, shures. I have to be honest audio technicas are great but i like a more bass heavy sound
Harry cubeguy that's because by now you are pretty much used to hearing that much bass
***** I understand they might not fit everybody's taste but comparing them to 15 dollar headphones, just no
Harry cubeguy You probably haven't tried any of the new Skullcandy headphones enabled with Supreme Sound.
Thank you marques, for explaining people the marketing BS of beats audio.
Hey MKB SUPER VID and great on camera personality !!! What camera/hardware did you use to produce this vid ? I liked the way the phone slowly spun around. And how did you produce the slide with the voice over ? I am a nubie and really want to understand and do a good job ! thanks alot !!!
My phone has beats audio and it's really nice sound.
***** No no I've used like 10 different phones and this one is the best. I love it.
***** Sound is subjective. What sounds fantastic to you may sound like shit to ol' Hank here. People like different things, and that's okay.
***** Thank you. Lady propane thanks you for your wisdom.
+Hank Hill well the you very obviously like bass heavy things but when it comes to clarity beats are horrible
+Hank Hill ????
Beats by Dre headphones are so much better than the crappy ATH-M50s. (Grabs Popcorn)
ahh I see what you did there
i dotn get it :P
DaViral/ Mo trickshots (MoTs) It's supposed to start a bunch of arguments. :P
Lol!
It does, but he wants to avoid looking stupid
I love how straight forward this review is. Subscribed. I just have to!
also fuck bestbuy I hate that store everything is overpriced and bad
Well this video made me your new sub
Basically it is features that most laptop computers already have. If the best feature, which what you said, is the beats equalizer, windows already comes with this.
Your left ear is more lame and broken then your right ear. Those beats are more valuable than your head, so of course your head will have problems before your beats has problems.
w0w this guy really hate beats! lol
***** huh? one thing is not like a product, one thing is to hate, i have been working all my life at BOSE, and honestly beats are not the best, there are better brands out there..price -quality ratio..but hey..the hate?
John Jones Actually, he used to love beats, seriously, find his old vid and see what happened in those review about beats back then. He just changed when he found out his true love, the Audio Technica ATH M50.
ColonelRVH Have the audio technica too... I understand him xD
ColonelRVH Have the audio technica too... I understand him xD
Beat audio is a multiband limiter
Love your videos man. I just started going through some of them. Love the way you explain stuff , will be sharing them.
Genius ! I already knew this but it's nice to see someone explain it with precise facts in easy to understand way.. So kids don't get sucked into the beats marketing and hear music properly by looking into headphone etc reviewers .. The ones that know know a lot and know right.
I removed beats from my phone. I used nail polish remover to remove the beats audio logo and installing stock android to remove the software.
Subbed you for your Google Glass and Beats reviews! You're very smart and I love the way you explain tech! Cheers
Amazing reviews! Clear and concise. Subscribed!
My favorite all around EQ is the Jazz eq on iTunes. It does the job for me, makes my music colorful enough while not killing or distorting the music
You are soooo awesome! Love your channel young man! :-)
When it comes to my phone I actually prefer one with Beats Audio. The overall increase in volume alone is worth it IMO.
You're s really good reviewer! Love the HTC one review! Keep it up bro
Marques, you are the only person I commend on being absolutely merciless.
Awesome video :) But the HTC Sensation XE had Beats Audio before :) It wasn't released in USA though.
