@@danielcabrera4161 Dear, she is not a TRUE coloratura.. just because a national source has listed her as the best lyric Coloratura Soprano in the world, does not make her a TRUE coloratura....if you had any sense of vocal knowledge and a good ear to hear- there are 5 types of coloratura sub- facts... BATTLE falls under KoloraturSoubrette fach. Battle never had razor staccati, her timbre overall is a soubrette sound, how she approaches notes are that of a Soubrette/Lyric Soprano, and she has always listed herself as a Lyric Soprano in her contracts at the MET. I shouldn't have even dignified this with an answer. Look it up for yourself if you ever feel doubtful of such. Carry on and good day.

@@melanielindsay9367 When one is classically trained, is careful in what repertoire to sing and what not to sing, and is careful not to sing too often....one can sing for a very long time. It is clear that she has had a problem and sad for those who were affected , but that was ages ago and even James Levine got back to working with her after. She remains a wonderful singer and she really communicates emotion . It would be nice for folks to draw a veil on the past and be glad that having put opera behind her, she has found stability and a medium to share that heavenly voice with us.

I'm not sure what your age is, but she's my favourite singer of all time also. I'm relatively young I guess, I was born in March 1979. LONG STORY FOLLOWS: it's not good, so feel free to ignore:
The following pointless story is very US-centric, so be warned. Much of it will probably not make sense to anyone not from the USA.
I first heard Kathleen Battle's voice on the local radio station, in 1996 or so (a US radio station, website WVTF.ORG; it had no website at the time!). I had been pulled out of public Junior High school and was being homeschooled (and no, not for religious or political reasons!!!), and the radio was what I had while studying college textbooks. I'd had vague hints at pre-1900 music from being in band from middle-school/junior high school. I played the saxophone. I wasn't any good realistically speaking, but I alternated the whole time I played from first to second "chair", and back again. As I see it today, the only things of value I got out of those 5 or so years was a very crude ability to read sheet music, and my first introductions to crude fragments of 3 Beethoven symphonies in a sickening "medley" we did in 7th grade. I became utterly, absolutely obsessed from the records (yes, LPs) our VERY POOR band director played for us to vaguely associate us with this music. That band director was really, really awful, but oddly he changed my life forever by playing us those fragments of 3 Beethoven symphonies (#5-1, #7-2, and #9-4). I was yanked out of public school after that year (again, nothing political or religious), and was set on college textbooks. My parents supplied me a radio. I wanted more of what I'd heard from that 7th grade band class. I searched the dial to find anything of interest (I did like The Beatles and a few things). I came across this radio station in the southeastern USA: 89.1 FM, WVTF. The announcers that I first encountered are now retired or tragically deceased. I heard music. The music I'd heard in Junior High School while prepping for that godawful concert. This so-called "classical" music. I obsessed. I OBSESSED. I slaved to scrape money by chores to buy a radio/tape recorder and tapes, and then recorded (certainly illegally) from the radio. If I didn't like the music, I'd record over it again, but I taped practically EVERYTHING when it first started playing on the radio. I had no idea what was what, or what I'd like.
At some point, there was something where Kathleen Battle was the singer. I don't even remember what it was. I almost certainly (legally) own that recording now. But I do remember that the radio station constantly would give out their telephone number. I called to ask who was that singer! (I'd forgotten the name when it was announced). The person who answered the call when I contacted to ask about this singer, well, the person who answered the phone asked me to hold on a second... and then less than a minute later, the actual ANNOUNCER, who I had already come to idolise, took up the phone! I stammered and mentioned my worship of that voice, asked who it was... and he said she was Kathleen Battle, and said something about how she could sing a phone book.
I never forgot it. He's passed away now, from a tragic accident during/after surgery. I actually was becoming friends with him, and met him several times. I even owe him a lunch/dinner, from our exchanges!!! He died in 2011, the first voice I heard dedicated largely to "classical" music. I should contact his family about my story, about our meetings, our exchanged lunches and talks after I'd become an adult and got to travel to meet him... I'm still in his debt, in so many ways.
Wow, I should delete all this. It won't make sense. I'm going to leave it, because I'm going to send this to his daughter. No, not in a creepy way, I never intend to meet her, and I never have. She doesn't know I exist. But I'm going to, by way of the radio station, send some kind of restaurant voucher, hopefully anonymously, to her and her family. That announcer changed my life FOREVER, and was a huge part of it for years, for years, for years. And the first time I ever actually talked to him, was because I had to know who that crystalline, unbelievable singer was, whose name I'd missed before the radio played the recording.
Kathleen Battle. That perfect, incredible voice. This story seems stupid in writing, but her voice is involved in my life in such a huge way. I'm sorry if that sounds creepy. It really isn't. I've never tried to contact her and I never will. But my whole life was changed by that radio broadcast, by that phone call, by her voice. And no living person other than myself even knows ANYTHING about it.
I'm really sorry, really sorry about how insane this may seem. I've had a bit to drink, but every word of this is true. Sorry if this bothered anyone, or seems overly-creepy or overly-emotional. I'm honestly not either of those. But every word of this is true.

I was never a big fan of Battle, but it's pointless to compare her to singers like Callas and Norman with totally different voices. Of course Battle couldn't sing Tosca like Callas or Ariadne like Norman, but I'm sure her Zerbinetta was better than any attempt those two could have made.
