What I liked about Ed was she was the comic relief in a show that could at times get a bit serious. Rarely was Ed ever a serious character and I doubt she was ever meant to be one. The fact she left before the series ended should have hinted things were going to get very dark for the characters. I do love the one scene when they discover the cult leader was actually another hacker (like Ed) who was in a coma. I forgot the lines Ed said but I like how after she heard Jet say the boy was having a prolonged nightmare how she hoped he would have good dreams from now on.
"And this time, I hope you have sweet dreams" if I remember correctly. I still think Ed is one of the deepest characters in the show, even if the writers didn't intend her that way. Like, she had the saddest past, she never had a mother, and her father just left her in a daycare and never visited her again. And still, she had the happiest and most good hearted personality in the entire anime. She never really cared about her past, or experiences, she just enjoyed life, and always did what she really liked to do. "Ed has not had any sufferings yet. Perhaps I might have, but I don't remember at all. If you ask why, it's because I only do things that look fun... and even with boring things, I find something a little fun in them... but if it's still boring, I just go to sleep" - Session XX, Mish Mash Blues

I remember that line when she said "I hope you have sweet dreams." I think that is my favorite line from Ed throughout the series.
