Fender Made In Mexico Jazz Bass vs USA Precision and More Talk About The Most Versatile Bass

- My second purchase of a Mexican made Fender is looking to be a bit like the first time but I'm digging the sound of it with flat wounds. Hopefully, a fret dress will sort it out.

Oh man, literally yesterday I've bought a 95 Fender "squier series" jazz made in Mexico. This is the first jazz, (and I belive the first of the many Fender basses I had opportunity to play) that I really vibe with, and the build quality is exceptional. Great video as always :)
Your appreciation for life and health is inspiring. Good on ya!
Thank you!
Another excellent vid. Enjoyed the iron maiden snippet.
I have had a Mim P Bass for years, one of my favorite players. Now thinking of getting a Mim Jazz Bass.
Beautiful Bass brother , and I love that look as well. Sounds great.
That is my fav color / style of Fender bass - shiny wood = total cool. The pick guard finishes it.
Glad you are doing good after the heart attack.
I’m a stingray guy. My next choice would probably be a fender precision because they are similar. I also enjoy flatwounds just because they feel better to me.
Thanks for the video
Thank you for your words! Yep, the stingray is a great bass! I can't wait to find another one.
Great looking and sounding bass
Thank you!
Here's my bass journey: cheap Yamaha>MIM 60's Classic Series Jazz Bass (too much like a guitar to me)>Music Man/Ernie Ball USA SUB (liked it but stupidly let it go)>Fender 50's Classic Series Precision Bass (strung with flats is 'that' Motown sound but a bit limiting for other styles)>Sterling SUB (good for the price but neck was too skinny and bridge rattles a bit)>Music Man/Ernie Ball USA SUB (managed to find an exact replica of the one I sold but for £300 cheaper). You can't beat the Stingray or a USA made SUB in my opinion. Build quality is exceptional, never goes out of tune, looks cool as f*%k and can play any style 🤟
I was deciding between a new MM SR Special and a USA Geddy Lee Jazz and went with the Geddy hands down. Best feeling bass I have ever played and tons of versatility out of that thing. I play it wide open and with a slight EQ differnce, it's great. I changed the pickguard to a black one and it just suits me more than any other giuitar I've owned. It's killed myh GAS for now. I love a stingray for sure, but Fender won this round for me. Thanks fror the video.
You're welcome! I missed out on one of those Geddy Lee Style basses with the black bold inlays, which was made in Mexico. Yes, USA is the way to go for sure.
I was debating between a Jazz and Precision bass, you helped me go towards the precision bass! That comparison did it for me. I prefer that beeffier and well rounded precision sound for Latin music. But actually, now I want a Stingray too! Lol! Now you got me looking at both.. :)
Thanks for your words! I'm glad I could be of help. Much respect to you!! I've been listening to Latin music for decades, thanks to a friend of mine who got me into it. I'm really trying to nail those progressions, which always seem to elude me just when I think I'm settling in to the groove. My friend said to focus on a particular style (the name escapes me right now) but the scale helped me to follow better. Anyway, I will say the Jazz bass is a little easier to play but I just can't give up the tone of the Precision.
@@progrockjock maybe I’ll have to get the jazz bass as well then 🤣 Also, glad you’re doing good with your health. God bless you and keep jamming on that bass please! Thanks for your helpful video.
Thank you very much! 🙏🏾...Also, I need to mention that my Jazz bass sounds way better after taking it in to a tech and setting it up with roundwounds. I need to do an updated video focusing on the Jazz again but you can hear it in my MOOER Drummer X2 video.
@@progrockjockIs that the edition with the ash body? If so, that's a solid high end wood combination. The mim fenders often do suffer from a round of fret sprout which turns people off without taking that into consideration and giving it a fair chance and a once-over from a competent guitar tech
Yes, it's the Ash body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. It's a 2007. You're right about the frets many of the MIM (mainly jazz) have this issue. I just played it today after leaving it in the case for months. I really do love it. I just haven't made time to take it to a decent tech to sort it out. The last guy I took it to basically cleaned it and restrung it, nothing else.
If I could offer some advice that I found with my Mexican Fender Jazz Bass..., change the bridge to a Badass.. The difference it makes it huge...!, massive!!.. It transforms the sound.. Just my findings..
That isn't bad advice at all. Thank you!
Needs a little set up but yeah, a sound purchase.
I like the pbody better for me. I have two pj basses. Sometime give it a try.
Yes, the Precision body has and always will be my preference. I had a PJ back in the 1990s and loved the sound of it. Wish I still had it.
The issue with the MiM Fenders is the Quality control like you said, I’ve had several Mexican basses but ended up getting rid of them and went with some Japanese Fenders instead and also USA made, however, I kept a Justin Meldal Johnsen signature Mustang bass that is the best bass I own! Well, I do have a Stingray and enjoy playing the heel out of it, great video!
Is that a Jazz Bass FSR? I have the same bass but from 2014 🙂
I'm not really clear on the FSR (Fender Special Run) series but mine was made in Mexico in 2007.
@@progrockjock Looks exactly like mine. Probably it is. You can check on the back of the headstock if it has a sticker that says special edition.
No, it doesn't have the sticker. It's completely blank on the back, including the neck plate.
@@F_bass13 my fsr jazz in aged natural tort guard has a maple fretboard. only difference I see.
