We soak ours cold water first 20 min if it’s warm out to cool down then drain and ice 🧊 in coolers with drain cracked. Never had problems.
That works great as long as the meat isn’t getting soaked for a long period of time.

So ive gotten two deer before this year, i got one processed at my local processor this year and it tasted very hairy.. my last two deer tasted amazing could this be apart of processing,age, or my gutting process amd cooling process.
Could be all of the above. You also never know if you’re getting your deer back from the processor.
I've been processing my own deer for 40 years. Had no idea what i was doing, no guidance, certainly no youtube and I never soaked meat. Just in the freezer. The whole gaminess thing didn't exist. And who could waste a gallon of milk? I saw guys driving their deer around town for 8 hrs, maybe there's your "gaminess."
