As an Australian, you are 99% spot on, I'm learning so much about my dialect from you, gotta say at times I cringe.
2 quibbles... How's it hanging??? You gave a politically correct ( yet incorrect ) version of the translation. I get the real translation doesn't agree with UA-cam t&c
Also, you disabled comments on a previous vid I viewed..
You speak general, rather than cultured dialect. Be proud man!!
You're awesome, I'm impressed by where the UA-cam rabbit hole took me👍🏼
You said “HA-LOW” but i keep hearing “HA-LUR” 😂
Orh nor! Cleor!
I literally have no idea why I even started watching now I’m a full Aussie
I don't blame you, Australia is the coolest English-speaking country on earth! I guess that's an opinion, but it's the most correct opinion one can have, scientifically. 😅
I agreed@@kayleighgroenendal8473
G'day is such a great greeting.
Imagine how many times he greeted the air..
😂😂
Omg
LOL
And the air didn't greet back😂
At least 3 X per each aussie greeting. 3x21= 63 times at least LOL
I really enjoyed this video. Can U just make another video talking about how should we respond to each of'em?
Coz I have been asked all of them by native guys but sometimes I just freezed how to act :)
me to, sometimes dont know how to reply it. Been funny
Yeah, Mee too.
Hello there! Can you make more videos like these? I love the Australian accent and the way you explain things.
This is what I need mate, I’m planning to go to Australia a few months later, and my friends who are living here told me that Aussies use lots of slang. Keep doing mate. It is really helpful. Thank ya so much 😍
I want to learn aussie English so badly!!!!😭
Hi, so embarrassed for my country, but also very guilty of 'what's up?' and 'see ya'.
I reached an IT call centre in US once & the operator asked if he knew me - I think from my use of 'mate'. Soon he said where are you? Me: NSW mate. Him: What? Me: Australia. Him: Ohh I see... how are you? Me: Great mate what's up? Him: Um what was your question? Haha etc. He definitely had never spoken to an Australian!
As an American originally from the deep south, I can relate to a lot of these lol. Like in "What ya been up to" the only difference between how I've seen you say it and how I'd say it is the ta and to (too with a long o sound because we love our Southern drawl :P)
i'm australian but i only use "what's up" 😂
i am wondering how to answer it? "Good?"
TheAfrikaKorps jnlx
Wish I can talk to someone like Australian native to improve my accent😊
Me wife is Australian and my accent still thick as f%$&
my friend always answer me the ceiling
All are pretty accurate for me as an Aussie from regional Victoria except for a couple.
- "How are you doing?", I would usually not say "HOW AH YA DOO EN?". It would be closer to "HOW YA DOO EN?". Although I'd generally say "How are you going?" (pronounced: "HOW YA GAHN?") in most circumstances instead.
- "What's going on?", I would pronounce that as "SCARN ON?"
- "G'day" I never say this but I want to :P
- "Howdy" I would never say this, ever
- "What's the goss?" I've never said this but have heard people say it
Lol as an American, I can say the only people that say that are southern people or people raised by southerners, like my parents and grandparents say it but I dont
Oh My GOD!!! You aussie people, have your own langaugeeee!
Have to remember that when using "How's it going?" (or similar) it's a greeting and the question is rhetorical, we really aren't that interested. The standard reply is "yeah, alright" no matter how un-alright you might happen to be.
Best English accent!! Love from Norway🇳🇴
I just came to Australia recently And your videos are very helpful to me, could you pls make a video for how to response when someone greets you
I am looking forward to it too..I am always struggling ( everyday )with how to response to different greetings even though I have been in Australia for 4 years now. sometimes I just smile back and feel so awkward.
+Aussie English id prob'ly gonna watch that vid....
+Aye Chan Sorry to hear that you feel awkward. As a native Aussie, most of the greetings in this video are variations on the theme of "How are you?"; the standard answer is "alright". If the greeting is not in the form of a question, eg "Gday", "Hello" or "Hi" you can just say those words back. Above all don't be shy - we like people from overseas in Australia and very few of us can speak a foreign language, so it's not like we could do any better. So get out there and interact with some Aussies and your Strine will only improve!
Deadly ! I really enjoy watching all your videos :) "What's the goss?" is similar to "What's the story?" which is used really often in Dublin in Ireland :)
You missed the all time classic.
"Hey Jack, how's ya back. Haven't seen ya for ears an' years.... "
🤣🤣🤣
After 4 years not practising english , i refound your vid. Awsome teacher
Awesome video. Simple, elegant & to the point. Please keep doing such great vids
+Aussie English May be you expose us to more Aussie expressions in certain circumstances. For example: Aussie expressions used in a party, Aussie expressions used in work environment, Aussie expressions used driving, etc. Thanks for the neat work. Looking forward to seeing you in my upcoming visit to NSW. Hopefully within 12-15 months God Willing.
"Hiya" is also very common, and best understood as a blend of "hi" and "how are ya". I use it a lot. For a more enthusiastic greeting, I'll typically go for "Hey, how are ya!" (Demographic reference: late 30s South Australian.)
I LOVE Aussie
This is awesome. I've learned now that there's so many different ways that Aussies use to greet each other. However, I am curious to know if there's any gender differences in how these greetings were used by the speaker? It would be very helpful if you could do a video about gender differences in the usage of Aussie English! For example, how would a female and a male speaker go about saying something if the two were in the same situation? Thanks heaps!
Ok this is uh 3 years late but generally dosent change much between genders
There's no much change between genders , it's just the same. 🦔🍷
