  • Access to basic hygiene is something most of us take for granted. We have showers in our homes, bathrooms at work, and access to clean clothes. However, for the unhoused population in Los Angeles, finding a place to shower and take care of basic hygiene needs is not that simple. The Power of a Shower, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is changing that by providing mobile shower units to the homeless population in Los Angeles.
On Thursday, March 30, 2023, the Power of a Shower set up their mobile shower unit at Venice Beach, where unhoused individuals lined up to take a shower and receive hygiene products such as socks, underwear, and clothing. The Power of a Shower believes that everyone deserves to be clean and is on a mission to provide a clean and safe place for our houseless neighbors to shower.
The Power of a Shower is a team of dedicated individuals from different backgrounds and professions who all share a desire to improve the lives of our unhoused neighbors. They transform donated and retired commercial vehicles into mobile shower units, providing a place for their guests to use the restroom, take a shower, and put on clean clothes. In addition to these basic services, guests can also enjoy music, get a haircut and color, and other added services that they may not have access to otherwise.
The Power of a Shower is at Venice Beach every Thursday, providing these essential services to the unhoused population. They also accept donations to continue their mission and expand their services to other areas in Los Angeles.
Access to basic hygiene is a fundamental right that everyone should have. The Power of a Shower is doing their part to make this a reality for the unhoused population in Los Angeles. To learn more about their mission or make a donation, visit powerofashower.org/. Let us all do our part to support organizations like the Power of a Shower and work towards a more equitable and just society.

This would be great for the homeless that is not on drugs, or mentally ill. Because they don't care how they look or smell.

If only there was some type of organization that would provide shelter, food, hygiene, and case management.

When mental health and drug addiction are the problem, hygiene isn't a solution.

We have these in Las Vegas, sadly the homeless really do not use them, they'd rather walk around stinking, the summer is the worst as the smell is amplified.

You are enabling people to continue being takers. They should at least have to do something to earn this. A bag of cans. A bag of trash. An abandoned shopping cart. Giving away something may be your way of filling the emptiness in your life..but you are part of creating these problems. People are supposed to have a purpose for being on this earth..not just getting free stuff.
