I'm glad you painted the inside, there is no point in installing internal lighting unless the interior of the coach does not look as good as the outside. It is also quite amazing how quickly a small packet of figures disappear inside a coach.
Hi Tris. I have also used battery powered coach lighting but with latching Reed switch which you can operate by waving a magnet over the Reed switch (they can remain on in the station). I also added passengers reading newspapers and shopping bags on tables and as you pointed out it adds more realism to your layout. Thanks and regards Barry.
Great video Tris. People and lights really do add another level of realism to your passenger carriages. This is a project I have been wanting to do to my passenger carriage fleet. - Nicholas.
hello tris I have recently found your channel and absolutely love the content your putting out. I have watched and continue to watch all of your older videos I'm addicted. I love the honesty and happiness that comes across please keep it up thanks peter
Given the limited visibility, I used the nasty cheap figures from the Fleabay, but had to paint some more muted colours on some of the more Portillo-clothed patrons. It’s just way way too expensive to use anything else! Thanks for another great video Tris
A most enjoyable video tutorial Tris ! At 8:53 you show a Station building. What are the references of it ? I just love it ! Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Filip
I’m glad you like it. The station building is shown on an earlier video from a number of episodes you will find it if you scroll through my videos I talk all about it and show how it was made 😊
Hi Tris, great video. Here is my top tip; If you have any old Airfix GWR Autocoaches you can give them a massive boost. Buy a 5 pack of Sharpie Ulta Fine red permanent pens (the double ended ones). Strip the coach down and wash the body in soapy water and let it dry, Use the ultra fine end to colour the droplight frames. Let them cure for a week than go over the red with a second "coat" re-assemble and a few days later the effect is stunning, Cheers dude keep up the good work,
Great video Tris. I did something similar with my coaches but didn’t think of painting the interiors. I used the one with the latching reed switch operated by magnets. It does take a time to put the passengers in, I used packs from China which were quite adequate (and more Importantly at the time) cheap. They certainly created the desired effect. Thanks for sharing. Roy.
Hi Tris. Great idea of populating the coaches and an even better idea is to install lighting. However, when I painted my coach seats, one or two passengers came unstuck. This is because the layer of paint in between the figures and the seats interfered with the cohesiveness of the glue. In future, may I suggest you 'scratch' a circle of paint off the seat where the figure is going to be positioned. It certainly works for me as it removes the necessity of having to pull apart the coach and reattach the unseated passengers. Hope this helps. Paul. 👍
Usually with my GWR coaches I just paint the seats in blue for 1st and red for 3rd and then apply a dark wash or something to the wooden bits (currently I use citadel chestnut ink, but its hard to find and very expensive, luckily I still have a pot left but I don't know how long it'll last)
Excellent video and very informative. I have been looking at these figures and wondered what they looked like when in use. To me they look fine so I must now get some. The lighting is very clever too. 😊
A rapid response from you, thank you. The question of battery life, humm. I like lights but I have spent an inordinate amount of time flaffing about with various methods to cracking the problems that emerge once one has achieved a result, only to find out more issues thereafter. I see with your ploy a degree of success that succumbs all the failures I endure. I will buy some of those :-)
Great video there Neal, isn't train tech do some great products, I've fitted a steam sounder in a goods wagon, again actuated by movement. Regards Terry.
Nicely done Tris. The only coaches of mine that I've painted on the inside so far is my Hornby Railroad style teaks and I have yet to start adding people anywhere bar one lone man who stands around the station area.
Certainly makes a difference, Ive used the cheaper figures in mine and they do look better toned down a lot instead of being really brightly coloured, the other things I'm in the middle of doing is adding flush glazing, really cheap per coach and make them stand out even better :D
Nice little video Tris. Curious. Can you turn the lights off? Or do you have to disassemble the coach and take the battery out? I like the figures. They're handy for coaches that I have.
Good video and the lighting and passengers do set the coach's off nicely! When i put lighting in my coach's i found it very tricky to get the coach apart and also found they didn't go back together quite as well as they should have. Do you have any tips for this?
Thank you. I don’t know a part number if you look up train tech which is by gauge master you need to find there coach lighting unit. I’m assuming they only have one
Nice idea Tris but you must be a very wealthy man! A set of 12 Bachmann seated figures is about £15 minimum and the movement lighting strips by Gaugemaster £66 for 3 = £22 each. So that’s about £37 per coach!! I normally pay no more than £15 per coach, buying carefully online. So that triples the cost of each coach. I have about 50 coaches in my collection. They look great but, sadly, my finances can’t stretch that far.
That’s a good question but it doesn’t stay on all the time. It sits on for about 30mins and turns off. I’ll be able to report back once I’ve learnt a bit more about It.
But the hornby Lbsc e2 model and make it look like Thomas pls it would be cool , and get a hornby railroad black 5 and turn it into Henry the green engine

Hi Tris. It was nice to meet you at the Warley exhibition at the NEC today (Sunday). I was the blind guy!
It was lovely to meet you Phil, thank you for coming up to see me. Take care 😊

I agree the bachmann ones are pointless for this kind of project.
Portillo clothes patrons 😂 what a description

I seem to remember GWR coaches had a blue seat material (moquette) for smoking compartments and red for non smoking.

These coaches really do look great with lighting and passengers Tris! great job!
Thank you sir, I hope your keeping well
Very nice, Tris! I never knew Gaugemaster sold lighting kits like that. A huge yet simple improvement to add to a layout!
Thank you, I’m glad it’s shown you something.

I understand thank you 😊
Nice one man; like the lighting effects in the coaches. ATB Si.
Thanks Simon

Another very pleasant watch Tris and you are absolutely spot on with the interior looking much more realistic lit up with people.. All the best, Chris
Thank you Chris 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed it
Great job on those coaches Tris, definitely adds realism to them.
The lights and peeps look great, but where do you stop? Buildings next?
Great video tris it does certainly makes coaches come to life.
Great transformation, Thanks Tris
What an improvement!
Thank you very much 😊
nice instructive video! Thanks for sharing!

Nicely done! I like the lighting kits; I may have to invest in some.
Thank you, you should get some it will put a smile on your face 😊
My coaches are full of those eve models figures. Once they are in they look fine at normal viewing distance

Great video.I am going to do both to my coaches 👍
I’m gonna have fun doing this.

What flush glazing are you working with please?
@@tankmicr00man South Eastern Finecast Flush Glazing 👍
Very interesting.
Nice video handsome 😉❤️
Thank you very much 😊❤️
Nice little video Tris. Curious. Can you turn the lights off? Or do you have to disassemble the coach and take the battery out? I like the figures. They're handy for coaches that I have.
They are on a timer/sensor so switch off on there own and come on when you move them. Very good. Well worth getting
Good video and the lighting and passengers do set the coach's off nicely!

Thanks, for this I trimmed the material so it sat down over without jamming the tops on. I’m sure every coach is different
@@OONeal Ok can you explain more how you did it?
great video
These look brilliant do you know the part number for the lights please
Thank you. I don’t know a part number if you look up train tech which is by gauge master you need to find there coach lighting unit. I’m assuming they only have one
@@OONeal brill thank you I will have a look see for my 009 coaches. This vid has sort of promoted this to the top of my winder works list
There's no link to the cheap figures in the "description below", as you said there would be.
I will add it later on for you, I forgot about it so thank you for reminding me
Nice!👍👍
good vid vid thanks lee
Coaches always look better with passengers too many empty coaching stock moves on layouts out there. Nice job 👍
Thank you sir 😊 I need to do it to all of them now as I notice it on the empties

You don't have to do all your coaches at a time, you could slowly do each one or just do this to your more used coaches
How long will the battery last?
That’s a good question but it doesn’t stay on all the time. It sits on for about 30mins and turns off. I’ll be able to report back once I’ve learnt a bit more about It.
