I've been on a train from Leningrad to Sochi and back 3 times in early 1980s. It took 48 hours each of the six trips. The Caucasus mountains were fabulous
I’ve been to Russia in February. When you consider the vast distance, temperature extremes, and logistical challenges, the fact that it runs as well as it does is remarkable. I’ve ridden trains in Russia and I give them a high rating.
I would have asked that person to please stop talking, but that’s me. I’m not going to sit here and tell you how to live. It was a great reminder that travel can be tough and unforgettable!
Russian trains are great. After watching your videos for years I did the Vlad -Moscow 7 days in January.Wondering how I would cope I surprised how much I enjoyed it.First 3 days I had same cabin on my own then it was full til Moscow.Cant wait to do more Cheers from Australia.
I went from St. Petersburg to Sochi. It was an amazing trip. I wish that relations were better between the US and Russia because I’d love to go back and travel more of the country. Until then, I can live vicariously through you!
Oh how funny and lovely this video was!! When I saw the notification I thought I had seen it already, not realizing you'd done it again!! I have to tell you, I am 73yo and live in the USA and I realized as I watched that never before today have I seen pictures or video of Siberia *without* snow!! How beautiful the countryside is!! I'm sure you enjoyed your visit but I am overcome with wonder if you went back the same way!?!?! 😊
I stumbled on your videos over the winter. I absolutely love watching your travels. I may have a bit of a different perspective. I have 3 adopted children who were born in Russia. My daughter is from Krasnoyarsk and my sons were born in Vladimir. I also have friends whose children were born in Chita. My mother and a friend’s traveled across Russia in the trans Siberian in 2014. My kids and I would love to make the trip together some day. So many find memories. Please keep posting. That might have been awful for y'all, but it was a blast for me! You used your irritation to create humor. Good job. Better to laugh than cry! lol Your grandmother looked good. I'm sure she was happy to see you. And I loved her new couch. Thanks for taking us on the train trip from hell to visit Granny! It was fun.

My oh my what a train trip. The train was super modern! The views spectacular. Julia I've never seen you so giggly... something in the water? Matt in shorts on the train with -3 C outside. Cozy train temps! Traveling, especially airports is often "hell". But in the end it is the journey, the people you meet, the crazy things, the smells of a new place, the joy of an adventure. Can't wait for Uzbekistan. See you soon! Linda
I think this was one of my favourite videos you've made. I like my own space, so the thought of sharing a cabin with a complete stranger, who sounds like he could be very inappropriate, would be my worst nightmare, but Julia was very philosophical about it. However, you must've been both physically and emotionally drained, so thank goodness you had that wonderful reunion with your gran, who i think is amazing. I hope we see more of Lera in the future as well, as she's so sweet and looks like good fun.

Longest train I have done is the Zephyr from San Francisco to Chicago over three days and even in a private cabin that felt like AGES. I am really bad at sharing my space when I am tired and just want to read for a while, I thought you all handled it in really good humour and it will be one of those stories and experiences that will stick with you. Thank you for sharing as ever!
The solution to long distance train travel is to do lots of stop-overs. It may take much longer but each stopover is an opportunity to see a different place rather than just see the train station surrounds. It may take 2-3 weeks but it has advantages.

I had been planning to do this for years, just plucked up the courage and money, then the pandemic intervened then the Ukraine situation. The room tour took me back to travelling in the 1970s, a little less comfortable back then. What an amazing journey, my sort of thing, having got on the wrong train and ended up in Yugoslavia, by mistake and got arrested, great fun. We had an experience (nowhere near as bad as yours) when travelling on the Darjeeling Mail overnight sleeper between Kolkata and Siliguri, West Bengal. Like you, there were three of us in a 4 berth AC1 cabin. The fourth member turned out to be a young Bengali guy and he was a nice guy, BUT his phone alarm started to go off at 4am and it kept going every 10 minutes! Trouble is, he was a really deep sleeper and even our attempts to wake him only worked once. His sleepy attempt to switch it off didn't work as it started again within 10 minutes 😂 We thought about booking the fourth berth for future journeys, but apparently there is such a demand that if nobody checks in against that seat, it will be released. I'm not sure if that's correct though. Either way, I don't know how you put up with that for so long!! Kudos to you. Great video and actually the "issues" added to the entertainment value (sorry! 😂)
@MattandJulia you guys are full of humors and possitivity which i most love about your videos even during this whole travel. Thanks for sharing your amazing train journey! Cheers! Godbless you❤
I'm actually impressed by the space in your compartment 😂 I once went on a school trip to Russia in 2005 and went overnight by train for about 10 hours in a much older and smaller compartment with 3 other guys from St Petersburg to Moscow. There were no cupboards, the bunk beds were tiny and the toilet was a metalled hole in the floor that was guarded by a fierce babushka collecting rubles. Still, looks like yours was much longer and more scenic!
I travelled in 1999 No flush loo,a hole on the floor No shower, we used large wet wipes to clean ourselves. Took instant noodles, cup of soups, crackers, cookies, bought fruit and pancakes from traders on the platforms or as they walked through the train. What a great Vlog. You definitely should have bought the fourth ticket! Wonder which poor sods had to put him over the next five days 😂. Heaven help the relative he's visiting 🙈 Great viewing as always. All three of you did an epic trip and gteat work, and I have loved every minute watching your progress. Look forward to seeing the next trip 😊
Thank you for sharing the longest train ride video! Always wanted to go to Vladivostok and enjoyed that video. The train ride experience was priceless to me. Keep on chugging along!
My Dad was one of those people who would tell the same tall stories to anyone who would listen (and anyone who wouldn't!). I rarely had meaningful conversations with him and he would often take over a social situation. But he's been gone 4 years, and I miss him despite his annoying ways. He meant well and I can't show him anything to make him laugh now.
The accomodations look great. Your cabin companion sounds like a nightmare. For a time I forgot Alexander=Sasha. Here in the US, we rarely do trains but I love traveling by train. I have always wanted to do the Trans Siberian. Was the exchange rate about 1 Euro for 100 rubles when you were there? I was looking forward to this episode. Safe travels and kudos to Matt for taking a shower online. 😮
Really glad you enjoyed it! 😊❤ Yeah, around that as £1 GBP was 117 Rubles. And haha, thanks, there was a lot of careful editing of those shower scenes 😅
My favourite, video’s about Russia . As for your neighbour’s endless talking and tall stories - some people are simply incapable of knowing when to stop talking .
Right from when I was young I always wanted to do the trans Siberian railroad trip . Won’t ever do it now so thanks for sharing. Can’t imagine though being trapped with someone like that on your trip. The stuff of nightmares. 😢
Wow - I did not realize until the very end that he was IN YOUR CABIN for FIVE days!! I missed something where I did not realize he was in there!! I just thought he was across the hall and came over all the time. Oh my gosh I can’t even imagine that. Y’all are absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing the good and hard things of traveling. Love your vlogs. Thanks for taking me places I will never probably see with my own eyes. Looking forward to your vlogs with family. I hope you were able to rest and relax- be loved on by family.

Oh wow! That sounds like a terrible experience for a roommate! I’m glad you were able to share this content, as so many vloggers show only the beautiful things not the real experiences. It’s great that you can laugh about it all now.
what a journey...but i really think you summed it up well at the conclusion. i really appreciated this video because it shows what travel really can be like at times. travel is not an instagram post. it can be frustrating, long, dirty, smelly, tiring, and all the things you mentioned. however, the stories and memories that can be looked back on, even the bad ones, create a life considered full. keep up the great work showing the reality of exploring our globe!
Was the water wet? That really got me lol. You did amazingly to survive that, and I also appreciate you sharing the unglamorous realities of some journeys. The end credits with Julia really made me laugh too!
Have you ever considered visiting Florida,it's nice this time of year!!There's even a St. Petersburg there which was named after the Russian one, check it out!You can even travel by train on Amtrak through the US,it has it's ups and downs.I think they give monthly passes, don't quote me on that, just refrain from using the Greyhound Bus.
I understand travel delirium. When you finally get where supposed to be, then lies the problem of shutting off the mind. You can laugh about it but may take a day or two. Thanks for sharing.
Omg guys, what a trip, stuck with a nutter! Longest train journey was 12 hours overnight in Rhodesia as it was at the time but I was young and had lots of young guys to keep me company! If you managed that trip you'll manage anything. Love as always!❤

It was a wonderful, enlightening video and glad you shared it
Wow - I did not realize until the very end that he was IN YOUR CABIN for FIVE days!!
Ah ! The joys of travelling. Really enjoyed this vid gives you a good insight into the awesome size of Russia, very interesting thanks for posting. 😊
Thanks for this journey. So interesting. Looking forward to the next one!
Oh my goodness you poor souls!😄I suppose it made reaching home even better eh xx
Ох ребята, даа, таких дядей Саш у нас много, про личные границы и чувство такта они не слашали. Привычки этого коллективизма передаются из поколения в поколение.
To be honest I really like both of your british accent😊
Thank you very much! 🥰❤️
This makes it obvious how small Canada is 🤗
Are there trains across Canada too? **considers round 2**💡😉❤️
Just some 4000 km...
You all are sooo brave. Don't think I could face this journey, and I'm not a shy person!!!!
Glad we could share it ❤️🙏🏼
Hahaha, classic uncle Sasha that 😁😩😫😂❤️
Have you ever considered visiting Florida,it's nice this time of year!!There's even a St.
You should have asked the staff to give you another room, i bet they would understand and try their best to help you.
Omg guys, what a trip, stuck with a nutter! Longest train journey was 12 hours overnight in Rhodesia as it was at the time but I was young and had lots of young guys to keep me company! If you managed that trip you'll manage anything. Love as always!❤
Thank you so much for watching Agnes! So glad you enjoyed it 😀❤️
The moral of this story is to purchase all four berths in the compartment so you don't have to share!
😂 Nah, chatting up random people is part of the charm. It's not a train trip without that.
Great video....
