thank you for your comment. Shimano and the producer do not seem to have a clear definition for MD. I am not aware of the exact meaning, but summarizing the producer's explanation, MD appears to indicate specialization in big game fishing. I am not aware of the exact details regarding the gears, but there is a high possibility of shared elements based on the body shape, retrieval speed, and spool dimensions.

@@lysol419i think the md series is using brass for gear but soft brass..the gritty and sandy feeling is normal to all newer model of shimanos..i think this start from 2017 model where most of main gear and pinion will have too soft or too brittle gears material....that why most shimanos user just buy the custom gear..hope this will help😊

I haven't tried it, so I can't say for sure, but I think '21antares dc 5.6ratio gear' is probably usable.

why does shimano use plastic wormgears nowadays even on high end baitcasters, there must be a reason 🤔
While the reason is not certain, it is possible that they are considering the impact of corrosion caused by seawater.

職業機械工です。
シマノさんがカラーを入れるのがどういう意図かわかりませんが、急激な負荷や、なんらかの負荷がそこへ向かった時に金属より柔らかいカラーが他を痛めず解消してくれます。そうした事でカラーだけの交換ですみますし。
安くない小さな精密機械だからこそ、カラーなのかもしれませんね。
