There are very rare occasions when you don't need to use it. Your hand is good enough or your board state is answer enough and there isn't anything you want right now. Whereas they might pull some ridiculous shenanigans in their turn and you need to find a specific answer to help pull back the win, and if you wasted your new genesis on the previous turn just picking a random 1k or 2k then you might lose.
