    Had 3 cars from Tonsly park, charger, sigma and currently a 380. Couldn't be happier with the 380. A great country car that is the best built car Australia made. Because it didn't sell does not make it bad.Im happy with my purchase.

      Everyone wanted SUV type cars that's why our auto industry died , mainly concentrating on sedans ; I did my part owning Holdens , Valiants and 2 magnas : the kids also buying commodores

      I still have the Magna as a daily drive , a 1999 model 3.5 ; plenty of power and a great car for long distance driving as well

    All the workers from CEO to cleaner knew the 380 was their last chance, hence it is built to a much higher standard than other manufacturers in Australia. The best car to ever close a factory.

      @@AlonsoRules Because the market had changed, people didn't buy them, doesn't make it a bad product. I'm happy and that's all that matters.

    Watching this again now in 2020 they were right in what they did. Ford, Holden and Toyota followed in future years. The big car has died in favour for SUV. The last car the 380 was a dam God car. One of the cars ever built in Australia. Sales were not there but those who owned a 380 loved them.

    Some have commented on the quality of this recording. It was recorded hastily with cheap equipment - a Philips VHS on standard cassette tape, then digitised to Mini-DV through a Sony video camera. So it's far from perfect, but still captures an important moment in Australian automotive history. So far a better recording from any broadcast hasn't surfaced, but hopefully some day one will.

      Thank you for posting this CruisinTR - you are indeed correct in that it captures a very consequential moment of Australian automotive history. I might also add that this was in my view - a pivotal economic moment for the country and was writing on the wall for what would follow a few years later. Thank you again for recording this and for also formatting it and posting it here for those interested.

    The 380 is still an accomplished car, far Better then the equivalent Holden/falcon at the time.

    POOR MITSUBISHI
    its not their fault though, they tried their hardest but no one bought the 380
    the magna's were awesome cars, in fact they were ahead of their time

    Still have a 2008 380 gt great cars very reliable. Look at most same year model Holdens and Fords leather interior all cracked and cheaply made and roof sagging 😂 my 380 gt still looks new with 188000klms on the odometer

    Actually I'll correct my self in that statment from 4 years ago, the 1989 TP Magna Elite went to a new home in december 2012 as I hadnt driven it in 6 months and rego was coming up for renewal so some one might aswell have a cheap run around rather then it sitting costing me money to keep it on road to do less then 1000km a year and the 1995 KS Verada went bye byes in janurary 2013 when it was written off Now I'm happy with my 2001 TJ Magna Advance wagon 5 speed manual V6 3.5 litre

  • @TheAussieBusman

    Nothing will Tear me away from My 1989 TP magna Elite and My 1995 KS Verada. Truley Amazing cars to Drive. I've had a few other Magna's aswell From the Executive to the limited edition Grand tourer (my Grand tourer was unfortunatly written off hit by a drunk driver) if Holden or ford offered me a free car I'd turn it down and go spend the money at my local mitsubishi Dealer.

    My TJ VR-X dad bought new still runs perfectly not a single out of the ordinary issue at all in it's whole life.. look absolutely brilliant as well good for me cos I absolutely adore the Japanese base with Aussie build, design and style elements. ONLY thing with 3.5L 3rd gens is the weak auto boxes (wave spring failure = transmission life of ~130K km-220K km) which was sorted out in '04 TW Magna and 380.. so as a result most have been scrapped by now as most were autos, and - I still see a fair few 380s and TWs running about in Syd but hardly any TJ's for example
    Magna's after '03 (TL/TW) just looked crap.. (who the hell goes to French car designer?)
    380s are brilliant cars very reliable especially for the price even when new, series 2 & 3 look alright too, JUST LOOK at the MILEAGE of the cars being sold on CarSales, most are 270K - 400K Km's - excellent used car buy if you can find a good one

      The sickcunts at mitsubishi also made it so some improved 380 bits can be swapped over to the magna such as the bigger twin piston front brakes (bolt on) and motor

    travelled recently to the old Mitsubishi plant in Tonsley Park from Melbourne. It was fiercely confronting. It appears the SA govt is trying to create something from nothing given the tiny bit of construction on the site . . . . but the shells of the old assembly plant remain stripped down to the core.
    I travelled further to GMH Elizebeth to view that facility. . broke my heart given I a previously employed GMH employee to know its not far from the end. . . .I dont know what the closure of Ford will do and the subsequent closure of Holden will do shortly after in Victoria . . . .it maybe wont create a recession . . . . but shockwaves will ripple through the economy unless the government can direct previous subsidies that were paid to car companies and into infrastrucure that is badly needed given stupid levels of population expansion from overseas which recent governments see as "a great thing" Not sure most Aussies see it that way though

      What could you expect, even though I bet a Holden SUV is sold here in the US and China as a Buick Envision.
      Do you heard of the Holden Envision?

    They where never going to successfully compete with the Commodore and Falcon.
    The 380 just wasn't that good: Very conservative looking, cheap and dated interior, hardly any boot space, too bulky for FWD and initially overpriced.
    The BIGGEST reason though was Mitsubishi's shocking reputation after the Sigma and Magna. They were unreliable with so many problems. Just look at how many blow blue smoke today. Shocking quality, would never touch Mitsubishi again no matter how good they are today.

    • @Doubledunk
      @Doubledunk 6 років тому +2

      AugerMartel Magna's unreliable...? Lol what
      I do see how 1st gen and 2nd gen problems sort of tainted the magna name a little and gave the hordes of holden and ford fans and numpties like you ammo to put down the superior world-class 3rd gens and 380 because in their mind that simply cannot be possible, just keep recycling the same old "magnas are slow and unreliable, shocking quality!" as if every magna is a 1989 2.4L astron

    • @Redblower
      @Redblower 6 років тому +3

      Augermartel...you idiot...it was the aussie dollar that killed the 380.
      We were expeorting Magnas to the US as "Diamante" we couldnt sell the 380 due to the exchange rate...so no export agreement.
      300 magnas a day...at times 220 were going to the US.
      had nothing to do with looks..the 380 still sold in same numbers as the Magna in local Australian markets.

      the cars were too big, too expensive and guzzled too much fuel
      in addition union demands for high wages and endless perks made operating costs too high

    • @JackJockette
      @JackJockette 5 місяців тому

      hey dickhead..look how wrong you were,,,380 has been proven to be the best australian built car ever...in fact the safety rating has been increased to 5 stars as a consequence of crash data.
