He's right about dress rehearsal- I was in a play when I was 11, it was essentially a 2 person play, I played the inner child of a CEO- there were 4 one act plays and we had the absolute worst dress rehearsal anyone could ever have and the other ones were great, dress went so bad that the big theater director came up to me and made sure I was ok, the director of the show was REALLY worried too- place was sold out and in the end we crushed our show (thank God we were first) and the other 3 just didn't go that great
Louis CK is Gen X's Carlin, even though he wants to be Woody Allen sometimes, and the less said about that creepy black and white film he made with Chloe Grace Moritz, the better. Trust me, the only reason I am including it is so I can warn you of SPOILERS AHEAD:
He is such a pro that, in what can be described in a friendly way as a very bold move, he told a child predator joke during his 2015 monologue on SNL, and it didn't bomb, or ruin his career. He crafts his work and knows how to construct a story so well, that the subject matter and the uncomfortable feelings it brings are part of the joke. That is why the joke killed. That takes skill. (I know your channel will cover this monologue. Forgive me for reading ahead.)
