I've loved the Oats hire by Greg Byrne nearly 6 years ago. I believed Oats would win a couple of SEC championships, a tournament title or two, and would one day get Bama to a final four. Now?! I think this Alabama basketball program, with Nate Oats at the helm, is going to win a national championship here pretty soon. And Ive heard this from other high profile programs and their fanbases, that what Oats is doing at Bama is reminiscent of the Billy Donavan coached Florida Gator teams that went back to back. Not quite the same style of basketball, but same type of overall team, if that makes sense? But I think Oats will win several more SEC titles (reg season and tournament), and I believe he will retire at Alabama. If someone doesn't happen that could be an issue with the administration. But I leave that as a low probability. I love this! I've waited for Alabama's basketball program to become this, to become a blue blood basketball program. They've always been capable, but football has always held that special spot I the boosters eyes. Now it's all about the money, and both Basketball and Football make money lol. #RollTide

@@doc8013 Same here my friend! Same here. I went to the same high school that Wimp Sanderson went to here in Florence, AL. (Coffee High School, The Yellow Jackets) The old basketball gymnasium at the school was named after Wimp ( The Winfrey Sanderson Gymnasium ) That school, that gymnasium no longer exist. But alot of Bama fans that live around here, kinda looked at Wimp as the best Bama basketball would ever do. Seemed like NO ONE would even suggest that Alabama would ever have a great basketball program, much less a decent one. I remember Alabama was ranked #1 for the first time in school history in what '04? Then lost to Utah a day later, and fell to #4 or #5, and never recuperated lol. I liked those Mark Gottfried coached teams, but there was always something missing, something great. And that was a fantastic head coach! And as much as I love Wimp Sanderson, and what meant to me as a kid slamming nerf basketballs in my room every other night during college basketball season, pretending I was Robert Horry, James "Hollywood" Robinson, Latrell "Choke a Carlissimo" Sprewell (That was his nickname right?) Melvin Cheatum, Derrick McKey, Michael Ansley, Eric Washington, Antonio McDyess, even Roy Rogers. A player that is still tied ranked 2nd with several others, in college history for blocks in a single game (14 vs Georgia Feb 1996). But whenever the regular season ended and Bama happened to get in the tournament. I never had confidence that the team I loved so much would get past a team like North Carolina, Providence, or just getting past the second round. It was almost like that was their limit, if that makes sense. Now? I've never been more confident in this program. And I give most credit to Greg Byrne. And when Kalen DeBoer continues Bama on that winning track with the football program? We may need to build a statue for Mal Moore and Greg Byrne. Mal for getting Saban, and Greg Byrne for getting Nate Oats and Kalen DeBoer. Roll Tide my friend! Roll Tide.

I think Nate leaked the info on the UK kid to give Cliff a serious timeframe. Nate is scheming. Brilliant. And if Cliff doesn't choose us, other dude is perfectly adequate.
Yeah, his numbers don't pop out at you the way Cliff's do but he's a legitimate 7 footer and the way he describes himself it sounds like he thinks he can shoot from outside. He might be primed for a breakout season in this offense. Boy, if we could somehow get both we'd be sitting pretty. Though I am starting to worry a bit about the lack of playing time for some guys becoming an issue.

I don't think he was really overhyped, he just left too early. If he would've stayed he would've been a GINORMOUS part of last year's team. He had so much ability, he just lacked patience.

2 years ago, alot of my friends that are fans of teams like the Indiana Hoosiers, the Michigan State Spartans, Kansas, North Carolina, etc. They all had told me that Alabama would never make a final four with Nate Oats. Now?! They want Nate Oats as their head coach, and now are saying it's inevitable that Alabama's basketball program will win a national title within the next 3 years. And I totally agree!!! 😂 #RollTide
and what's kind of crazy is 2024, we weren't supposed to be near the final four. If anything 2023 should have been the year that we made a final four run. But I'm happy we did because I got to experience it as a student.
@@jakebuchsbaum3348 Congrats! I could only imagine what that felt like. I'm not a grad of Alabama, nor ever have been a student of the university. But I am born and raised here in the Shoals, a college community of its own (The University of North Alabama). I was just introduced to the Crimson Tide as a wee little lad in the mid 1980's. And I believe alot of people when asked how they became a fan of whatever team they pull for, most will point to a particular moment during a game. And my moment has always been Cornelius Bennett going full nuclear linebacker mode, as he spears Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Steve Buerline right into the ground. (Funny how us humans enjoy watching someone get totally smashed). Basketball was Alabama in a loss to Providence in the Sweet 16. I wanna say it was 1987 or 88, I could be wrong, but the opponent is burnt into my memory lol. Anyway, Roll Tide and enjoyed the reply.
