True, nuclear weapons are devastating, but what led to its creation? No offense, but people should not be commended for instigating supporting and participating in a war and for such vicious treatment of mankind. This award is a poor decision and badly timed.

I think the citizens are held to a different standard than combatants and military leaders. The civilians don't really have a clear picture on what's going on or why (especially because of propaganda), but the leaders do. And the leaders' actions can cause great harm to citizens who have no stake or say in the war. So giving an award to a survivor of a nuclear bomb is more akin to giving an award to a holocaust survivor. Though they were in enemy territory, their loss/suffering was too great a cost of the war. This kind of thing is more of a world apology, a sort of acknowledgement of wrongdoing, and a soft commitment to take steps so that it doesn't happen again.
