If possible, just get pure ethyl acetate.) Make sure your killing jar is strongly charged, in order to dispatch the specimen quickly and prevent damage.
It is extremely unlikely that you will unintentionally collect an insect that is endangered or otherwise protected by law. Don't let this keep you from collecting. If you have specific concerns, just go on the Fish and Wildlife Services website to see what insects are protected in your region.
