    • @StockyDude
      @StockyDude 3 роки тому +33

      It’s deeper than that. Before the slave trade, Europe was becoming poorer while the Ottoman Empire was becoming richer. The main trade posts in Africa were built by Portuguese to supply their ships as they attempted to find a route around Africa to get to India. When the African kings and European kings became acquainted, they initially treated each other as equals. Then African kings wanted the power that guns and canon gave. The European rulers saw suckers to take advantage of. The African kings sold slaves. Then the European traders began going straight to the suppliers. After 100 years, many Africans were transported as slaves, and the African kings lost so much trust, that rebellions by disaffected subjects became common. Then new, rival kingdoms began to form. By the 1800’s, European rulers leveraged those rivalries to colonize most of Africa. The West African kings of the 1500’s and 1600’s are all Mr. Nansi.

    Wow! As always...the story is a morality play....containing a devastating lesson. There be always a price for selfishness. And sometimes the price is steep....more than we can bear. Trying to judge whether Anansi is as capricious as or is the ancestor of european gods is dangerous. That's like your god points to all the incredible bounty this universe has to offer if you avoid letting selfishness consume you....but all you do is watch his finger. Careful. Is this not the selfishness he warns us of? Or do you think this is just some tv show and the spider god is not speaking to us through Orlando? Hmmm.
