    At first I thought there is no way this is going to work. So I tried it on a $20 and then a $300 hood. Amazing something so simple and easy to do worked. Thank you for the useful information.

    Thanks for the video pete!! Bought a mig 140 welder, gloves..apron..and fire retardant long sleeve shirt along with an auto_darkening helmet. Last night was my very first time welding anything. And I apparently did NOT even have my auto helmet on. The nob on the side was set to off and just a second ago I realized this. Though there was minimal protection for my eyes last night.. I did still experience a little bit of welders flash but my sight is back to 100%. I'm learning as much as possible and your channel is now on my watch list. Thanks again mate!!

    Good tip! I've done a modest amount of arc rod welding decades ago, before auto darkening helmets and now that I've just gotten back into it I wondered if there was a way to test my new helmet. Thanks!

    This works perfectly - thanks! I put my helmet in the sun to charge and then it rained (1 in a 1000 chance) - wanted to make sure it didn't get stuffed. Still fine.

    If you are wearing an auto helmet and it doesnt work, other than not being able to see the arc properly, there is no chance of getting arc eye as the UV rays will not pass through the helmet lens, whether its dark or not.

    • @petestools
      @petestools  Рік тому

      Goes from light to dark

    • @humourless682
      @humourless682 Рік тому

      @@petestools Whether it's light or dark doesn't matter. The UV rays, won't pass through clear grinding googles, or even glasses.
      The test is useful anyway though, as while getting flashed wont mean arc eye, its not something which will help with good welding.

    Cool. No.way that hood is darkening at 1/25000 of a second. Thats the problem with the solar ones...they can delay. As you said "go charge it in the sun first".
    Heck, ill be blind by then!
    I have a solar auto and get arc eye from it!
    I have keep my eyes closed the first half second of arc soni dont get flashed.
    Mine is slow just like yours.
    Not cool.

    • @petestools
      @petestools  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for sharing your experience with the solar auto darkening hood! It's important to be aware of the delay to avoid any eye strain.
