I'm going to study abroad in Madrid, Spain, next semester, and I have also been told that I have to travel around a lot of Europe as well! However, I'm not sure how much travelling I'll be able to afford. Glad you two had a fun time on a reasonable travel budget for those countries.
This kinda inspired me. I am in this post grad phase and Europe to me is like a dream that I wanna achieve and am currently working on. Sending you the wishes, and I would love to have updates on how your semester goes!
Hostels and FlixBus might be your friend, also In Germany until April I think we have the 49€ ticket so for a month you can use all local public transportation and regular trains (not ice aka fast ones ) - also you can get cheap breakfast at supermarkets like buy some bread there maybe fruit instead of paying 40€ at a breakfast restaurant you might end up at 2-5€ :)

$2151 for 2 passengers (or $1075 per passenger) from Utah to Europe is quite reasonable, well if it was a round trip ticket. That's what I have been paying (almost) every year to fly my entire family from Utah to Germany for the past 2 decades or so, round trip tickets that is. You can get flights slightly cheaper, but they usually have terrible connections or multiple layovers. Not worth the $50-$200 savings per person. Never really seen anything dramatically cheaper, I think those cheap flights tend to be from the east or west coast. But yeah, one way tickets are not worth it, it's usually better to plan your trip so you can fly back from the same airport as where you arrived.

The trick with the flights is to be flexible when it comes to the dates. In addition, there are some other tricks like flying from/to a different airport, not flying the entire itinerary or using miles. In August this year, I was able to fly from Munich to Tokyo in business class for 71.000 Lufthansa Miles and 1300€. I booked the flights separately. The flight to Tokyo was on ANA, paid with by Lufthansa miles + taxes. For the flight back to Munich I bought Air Canada miles when they were on sale and then used these miles to book a flight with Etihad Airways from Tokyo via Abu Dhabi to Munich.
Since you guys are young, please please please look into traveling with EF Ultimate Break! It's so much cheaper. I've been on 10 trips with them. There have been multiple married couples on my trips. EF is so worth it! The age range for EF is 18- 35. I'm 27 and have been traveling for four and a half years with them.

It is definitely worth spending a good amount of money on trips to places you may never experience again. It’s great that you had a good time and planned it well. Asia is definitely cheaper than Europe (depending what cities you go to.) Trips between 10 and 15 sound reasonable going overseas. I spent 14 going to New Zealand, 10 in the UK, 9k to Italy, but 5 going to Bhutan and Thailand. All trips were flown premium economy and were for two weeks; however, we did fly home from New Zealand in business because Air New Zealand has a lottery for upgraded seats. I paid $500 for two upgrade seats. Our total flying time excluding layovers) was 18 hours - a definite bonus. I have subscribed to several travel UA-camrs (like Kara and Nate) which helps with trip planning and costs.

I had my Italy and Switzerland trip last month, probably a week or so earlier than your's and your Hotel Totals are kinda my trip totals so definitely less critical of my own spending after watching this video! Granted, I was solo traveling, and I definitely pressure myself to spend less, but am happy now! Also the Infinity Pool sounds amazing! I will definitely need to experience one next year!

If u guys go back to Europe I recommend using hostel world for cheap stays!!! I basically did the same trip as you over prime tourist season in the summer but instead of Switzerland I went to Paris! None of my hotels were actually hostels. 2 of them were legit hotels where we could pick rooms and one was a gorgeous airbnb with a view of the entire mountain in Almalfi and our stays ranged from 30-50 a night for the whole trip! But it was definitely a great way to find cheap stays! We jumped around from place to place more than you did especially in Greece but one of our places was an apartment in oia Santorini for 40 a night for 3 nights and it also had an amazing view!!! Totally recommend
I went to Europe this summer for 2 weeks and spent around 4k pretty reasonable. I went to Barcelona, London, and Paris. Had so much fun it was worth it
It’s great that you had a great time, but you did spend a little money, just a tad, but as long as you had a great time, that’s all that matters, and it was your anniversary, so it’s all good!
In my opinion, if you're gonna go on a big holiday, you may as well go all out!

It's way cheaper to book a round trip to Europe so maybe book a round trip to Greece and then book a one way to get back to Greece. Also, if you want business class seats cheaper, you can collect or buy points for better value

Hi 👋 I go on trips outside of Spain (where I currently live, I’m American) all the time and I’ve never spent more than $1000-$2000 in Europe (except for Iceland, super expensive there because of all the imported goods to the island) for a week long trip…idk if they were staying at expensive hotels or what but that totals pretty up there especially for other young people watching who don’t have that kinda money to spend…thats like half a young persons yearly salary’s most places…if you wanna go to Europe and have a great time you do not have to spend anywhere near $15k…that’s so gnarly 😂

When I was 23 myself and my then girlfriend toured Europe for 6 weeks we did 8 countries and together we spent £1284.48p ($1600.78). Admittedly we stayed in hostels and cheap (dodgy) hotels and we bought train passes that covered Europe, no fancy restaurant's, no boat rides, no paragliding and we walked a lot. Also no flights I live in the UK we went in the tunnel. I couldn't do now, these days I like room service and a pool, with a bar in it. LOL Too bad you didn't come over to the UK we have lots of things to do and see, especially if you get you ass out of London.

I could have warned you that Switzerland was extremely expensive as my sister lives there... I truly hope you two discover how cutthroat the Low Cost Carrier market is in Europe. You can hop between European cities for twin digits with Ryanair. Yes, the two of you can fly for less than 100 dollars on Ryanair or their rivals Easyjet and Wizzair. Spending 500 dollars to get from Greece to Rome is quite excessive, although you two nailed a decent deal with the transatlantic flights.

It sounds like it cost that much because you went to fancy resorts. You 100% could have stayed in cheaper airbnbs or cheaper hotels if all you needed was a bed. I barely spend time in a room when im on vacation so a fancy resort would be crazt to me
