Thank you for putting in some sample prices in the comments. That's always my first question and no one likes to publish prices it seems. I just want to know the ballpark of something so is it doable or just out of budget.
The problem with prices is they depend on a lot of factors like the size and thickness of the part, how many cutouts it has, type of material, quantity, etc. The ability to instantly get a quote just by uploading your DXF file and selecting a few options is probably the most convenient part of Send Cut Send.
@@NickMakesBreaksStuff Yep, that's why I like to see just a couple samples of a companies service (or product) to get a basic idea. At least then you know if it's worth your time to pursue talking to them. Just like the parts you showed, basic shapes. Are we talking $25 or $150. I used to own a small manufacturing business years ago making laser cut model kits and I'd also do custom parts on request. Unfortunately my laser isn't powerful enough to cut metal but I can do 1/2" acrylic.
I did outline etching simply by having text on the part and tellinf Send Cut Send that I wanted the text to be outline etched, though I've heard that they no longer offer outline etching as a service. I'm not certain of this though, I personally haven't had anything etched in quite some time.
I've used a few different softwares. Most recently I've been drawing a sketch in solidworks and exporting the dxf. I've also used AutoCAD in the past, or Autodesk Inventor
They did the etching. They offer outline etching, which is pretty faint, or fill etching, which is really good for text. Fill etching costs more though.
@@NickMakesBreaksStuff Can I clarify one thing on the etching? Send Cut Send says they do NOT do etching.. I rushed there after watching your video here. Are there any other services you have used that do etching before?
@@JeffTorgerson That must be a recent development then. I don't do etching regularly, but SendCutSend definitely used to do etching. I have not used any other company's etching service.
@@JeffTorgerson I use their service all the time. If I need to make a metal bracket or adapter plate or something I don't even think about doing it by hand anymore. I can design the part and have it at my door in less than a week for probably the same price if not less than buying metal and putzing with it myself.
Prices are very reasonable, but vary quite a bit depending on material, thickness, and size. There is also a minimum order amount for each material and thickness you use, usually $29.
@@NickMakesBreaksStuff I could have guessed that. How about just giving the price of one of your designs. Then I can say, well mine will be thicker so more expensive. OK, so give the price for several. Of just say all of these parts were less than the minimum. Maybe one part was $1,000 and another $1. Jesus, we have no idea and you can tell us. Sorry for being so snappy but several people have asked for this and you never replied to them. I would really appreciate a reply and would be eternally grateful. Thanks.
@@L-36 As I've stated before, prices vary wildly based on what materials you use, how big your part is, and what quantities you order. The best way to asses this service's prices is to upload your own DXF and play around with the different materials and thicknesses. Furthermore, I've been reluctant to state the price for many of these parts because they are components of products that I sell on my website and I do not disclose my material costs. This isn't an unreasonable policy, and it is not uncommon for small businesses (or any business for that matter) to keep these cards close to their chest. Regardless, I've put some of the prices from SendCutSend in the description. I hope you find it, and the video, helpful and informative.
@@NickMakesBreaksStuff That is so helpful. Thanks so much. If I missed that the first time I apologize. If you just added that, thank you so much. It really helps to put it in perspective. So many times I find people don't want to say a quantity or price because they can't be exact. I ask my wire how long something will take and she says she doesn't know. I ask here will it be in 5 minutes and she says no. How about a month? They she says an hour or two and I have my answer. I know any part I design will not cost what yours do but I tell you, getting 1/4 inch aluminum part like the one at 3:14 isn't something I could do with a jigsaw, file, and drill for $15. This was a great video and even more useful with the pricing examples. Thank you.
Oh wow, I had no idea they would be so affordable. Thank you so much!
I’m glad you made this video, I am wanting to make a custom bracket for a power steering cooler, probably use these guys. Thanks!
Great video, thanks for sharing your work and sendcutsend info.
You're lying. Your cat designed all these parts! ;-) Smart kitty!
Thank you for the review, I really appreciate it.
Very cool designs. But you never mentioned how much each piece was :(
I'm thinking about using them for cutting some 5mm plate steel on a drum coffee roaster i want to build

are you able to make a video of how you do outline etching? that would be awesome thanks!

Are they expensive?
No, I wouldn't say they're expensive. Though I haven't compared their prices to other laser cutting services.
what are the prices on some of those parts like?
