Creating an 18th-century Mechanical Theatre | V&A

- An 18th-century mechanical theatre was a technology of tricks and devices that changed scenes almost miraculously. With nothing of this scale from history surviving, watch as exhibition designer, Patrick Burnier and his team recreate a spectacular mechanical theatre for the exhibition, Opera: Passion, Power and Politics. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to watch regular performances of a galleon cast adrift in a storm, with the odd mermaid. With additional commentary from theatre historian, Professor Christopher Baugh and scenic designer, Simon Bejer.
Opera: Passion, Power and Politics is on at the V&A until Sunday, 25 February 2018

Wow, what a wonder. Guys. You should film the whole thing when it is finished. Make a movie of it!!!!
Yes!!!!
The thumbnail brought to mind the show in the movie Coraline, with the song that goes "I'm known as the siren of all seven seas"
Yes please.
Its a pleasure to see, the craftsman are wonderland I love the set design from this time period. Why not show the finished movements??
"Nothing of that period, of this scale, survived"------i think this is incorrect. I remember seeing Marie Antoinette's theater sets in Versailles were perfectly preserved and are currently in perfect working condition.
Nice work indeed, but what was that supposed to mean: "Nothing of this scale from that period has survived"? What about Cesky Krumlov and Drottningholm castle theaters? They are beautiful and very well preserved with authentic stage sets, machinery and props.
guessing they meant in britain.
Wonderful exhibition
Beautiful. It reminds me of Drottningholms slottsteater.
