@@connorstratton5961 not really because in go animate instead of the parents being good and discipline him right .the caillou parents Verbally and physically abuse caillou and ground for no reason
True but they suck at it They could make him like Arthur and Bart Simpson mixed together At least he's able to be more likable especially since he's still immature and bratty
The sad part is, with a few minor changes, "Caillou Goes to the Circus" would be an acceptable episode: For starters, instead of Caillou simply getting the day wrong, have the circus be cancelled altogether, so the audience has a _real_ reason to sympathize with him. Secondly, instead of bawling and throwing a fit, have Caillou be depressed and/or bored for about half the day so the audience would find him more relatable and will sympathize with him more, before getting into the main "circus at home" part of the episode. Please reply if you think the episode needs any more changes.
I really like your idea dude. Seriously, you could easily write way better books than the original Caillou books (not that they are any good to begin with, tho)
Two more things I would change is… 1. I would make them cheer him up by decorating the house like a circus 2. NOT MAKE THE TOOTHPASTE LOOK LIKE A PINK BUBBLE BEARD
Yeah I was gonna say, I was surprised that Lin Manuel Miranda was in such a low rated episode. The pushy real estate agent is probably something thrown in for adults watching
For real though, PBS has to be one of the least problematic channels to date, even if they are sometimes under the radar nowadays to companies like Disney and Nickelodeon. I remember PBS the fondest.
For a channel that relies on public funding for their existence, they've done a fantastic job on helping to shape multiple generations. I still remember growing up on sesame street, Arthur and between the lions, and the first book I ever learned how to read on my own was a Thomas the Tank Engine book that I still hold onto for any future children of my own.
Most PBS shows other than Caillou is 99% great for little children and families. I tend to prefer it to Nick Jr and Disney Junior. I just wish Parents can parent instead of letting their kids be unsupervised on UA-cam “kids” videos. I know that most adults probably aren’t into these shows mostly targeted to young kids. However I would 100% rather have a kid that learns and be loving than not trying to parent and end up like Caillou.
I agree. It's really not like Arthur to just bully someone, the way it's done here was so incredibly out of the blue. Arthur is normally one of the nicest characters in the series, so what the heck happened?
Silent treatment tropes bother me, mostly because they’re proven to be psychologically, mentally, emotionally, and even physically manipulative and damaging, not to mention the fact that it does nothing to repair the relationship. (For clarity the silent treatment is different from not talking to an abusive or toxic person or taking a few minutes away from someone who’s angered you before going back and working things out). You’re basically forcing a person to beg for forgiveness and whatever they can do to get back in your favor, even if they don’t know what they did wrong. Shows use this as an effective way to make people apologize shouldn’t, especially to children who may see it and use it instead of talking out their problems. Edit: Two things, one being that i would like to apologize for forgetting to list my source, Psyc2Go’s video “6 Ways the Silent Treatment is Harmful” and second thank you Strider!
I’ve always hated the silent treatment. It speaks volumes of the person using it more than it does the guilty party in question. Communication is key and it is vital to calmly and rationally talk out your issues rather than resort to childish behaviors such as passive aggressiveness. Folks with NPD use this a lot just to gain control over other people emotionally. Best to avoid those kind of people.
It's especially cruel to inflict on autistic people, young people, and others who genuinely don't know what they did wrong and can't magically read minds or "read the room."
There's a few things that always pissed me off about Arthur's Big Hit as a kid. 1. Arthur got punished for hitting DW twice in the episode. Once from his parents, & then the second time from Binky punching him. It comes off as if the show thinks he deserved to get punched because he hit his sister. 2. His parents try to lecture him about how he should feel empathetic towards DW because now he knows what it's like to get punched. Even though he didn't do anything wrong or valid for Binky to hit him. 3. DW comes off as insanely bratty & unlikeable in this episode. The way she downplays her breaking Arthur's plane is just beyond despicable & stupid (even for DW). If they had written her as much more sympathetic in the episode like maybe she dropped the plane by accident & apologized immediately to Arthur, then it would've come off as much more likable. Instead she just tries to justify she didn't do anything wrong & then blames Arthur for not making it fly. Seriously, that would piss me off too. 4. Not showing DW get punished for breaking the plane was bullshit too. All they literally had to do was show Arthur saying DW broke his plane, her parents questioning if this was true & then getting upset at her for doing it. It wasn't that hard at all, but nope, the show decides to go the "I don't care what happened, hitting is always wrong" route.
I haven’t seen it outside this video, but based on what Strider showed, it really seems like Arthur was extremely cruel. The kind of person who would do that would not be someone you could just make up with at the end of the episode. You have to be malicious to keep harassing someone like that. Also, as an autistic person, not being explicitly told what someone is doing wrong is one of the worst social habits I keep seeing. It’s caused me so much trouble, and there’s no logic to it. If a person isn’t getting something, continuing to give them subtle hints just because you think they should get it doesn’t mean they will get it.
When I saw Barney stealing I immediately thought of that thing about Piracy y'now "YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A CAR, YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A TV, YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A DVD, YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A HANDBAG" Barney would Edit:It also has EXTREMELY loud heavu metal music
The sad part is that DW probably adds a certain realism and relatability to the show (is it intended? idk...). You do get families irl where one kid just weirdly gets a pass for most everything for some reason.
Yeah it's that sibling that tests all of our potential underlying psychopathic tendencies by pushing us to the point where we must ponder werther or not we would still strangle them to death if no one was looking, every once in a while and thankfully no normal person does :))
Just cause it’s sometimes realistic doesn’t make it a good lesson and honestly it just encourages spoiled behavior. (And this is coming from a younger sibling)
I suppose the "I Forgot to Laugh" episode of Arthur was meant to show how an innocent joke can be taken too far. I'm assume the coat was supposed to be fuzzy, like a sheep dog, & that Arthur didn't realize he was being a bully because everyone laughed at first. The silent treatment bit was probably meant to show kids' that they'd loose all their friends if they played cruel jokes. Not saying the episode was good or bad, just that I can understand what the writers were trying to do.
Ikr when he bullied Sue Ellen, Everyone goes @ him but others do nothing when Arthur gets bullied, Muffy posted a video talking bad about Arthur, Francine made fun of Arthur's glasses, DW brought his underwear to HIS school in front of the girls.
The reason people hate Edward Strikes Out so much is because Edward is completely out of character. Gordon being rude is fine since it's part of his character, but Edward is a kind, wise, old engine. Seeing him act like James is baffling and a spit in the face to his character. Henry would've be a much better choice instead of Edward since he's a bit aggorant himself.
*after the legendary battle* Caillou: I told you’d die for that Dw: you should have renewed your series Caillou: NO *caillou gets cancelled* Dw takes the W Caillou takes the L
I was thinking the same thing and came to the comments to see if anyone would mention it. Since I only knew him from Hamilton and I didn't watch it, I couldn't say with 100% certainty that it was him. I could only go base off of my memory of how he looked like (I haven't seen him in any form of media for months) and his voice. So I'm glad I found your comment to confirm it WAS him 😅
@@ReReCoil I remember when there were also animation artifact errors that would happen in most of those episodes as well. I'm just surprised it's still going at this point. Same with cyberchase, but at least it's still fine to watch despite it not doing the cybernetic theme as much anymore
I'd expect the derisive behavior more from Gordon than Edward. Gordon is a pompous engine, but Edward is consistently seen as a wise and mild-mannered engine.
I loved PBS growing up. Arthur, Maya & Miguel, Zoboomafoo, It’s A Big Big World, Cyberchase, Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, and Thomas were my favorite shows. I’d love to see you talk about Cyberchase
I remember seeing "Arthur's Big Hit" as a kid and, yeah, I just felt sorry for Arthur the whole time. Like, I get the moral they meant to convey and I don't condone resorting to violence unless necessary for self-defense, but they went so over the top making DW an unapologetic little brat that I seriously can't blame Arthur for losing it. And then instead of the whole story being taken into consideration and both kids getting reprimanded/punished accordingly, everyone completely invalidates Arthur's side and acts like he just went over and punched DW for no reason. And _then_ when Binky actually _does_ go and punch Arthur for basically no reason, his parents are all like "Well, that's what you get. Now that you know how it feels, go apologize to your sister." Umm, what now??? So when Arthur hits DW, he's in the wrong and gets punished, but when Binky hits Arthur, it's acceptable because justice? Aaaand to top it off, if memory serves, there's never any mention of Binky being punished; he just feels bad and apologizes his own. The writers go out of their way to emphasize that punching your sibling when they harass the crap out of you and break your stuff is wrong, but not that giving in to peer pressure and punching someone who's minding their own business might also be -- at the _very_ least -- equally bad?
I never cared for the main characters of Teletubbies as a small child. But I personally loved Noo-Noo. As a vacuum robot, he's always depicted cleaning up other people's messes. He's seemingly the only person with a true sense of duty and responsibility on the show. These are moral lessons kid shows should teach. Honestly, I'd love to see a show solely about Noo-Noo's life.
I would like that too. It'd probably give us some insight about him, maybe even show us some of the sad things he has to go through in his life, & even show how badly he is treated by the Teletubbies.
Honestly, I like a lot of the practical effects used in Teletubbies, and some of the set designs are pretty cool. Noo-Noo is the best practical effect in the show imo. So cool!
My first experience with telettubies was watching a Slendietubbies 3 review Now i can't see Noo-Noo as anything other than a fricking monster But seriously, why does that game have legitimately good moments, it's fucking Slendietubbies I nearly cried when watching the La-La scene, WHYYY
Imagine it like a mockumentary where they interview him and he tries to get a new job doing something other cleaning up. He could go to college or something 🤣
7:18 fun fact: originally James was supposed to be the protagonist of the episode, but for some reason he's model was not present so instead they used blue Jesus
There’s 2 episodes I can remember where I actually didn’t dislike DW. The first is how she feels when she overheard her parents fighting, and starts getting visions about them getting divorced or hating each other forever. Child’s imagination and also sympathetic. The second is when she just starts playing around with sounds, making a choir out of doo dads and things. She actually had something she was passionate about, a way to express herself. And as an artist, I’m a bit biased towards that kind of thing.
I like the one where Arthur cuts his knee on a lima bean can because D.W., for once, seems genuinely worried about him when it happens. It makes her much easier to like.
@@SnakeitySpoonGilmour And she tells Arthur that he needs to tell his parents what happened because if he doesn't say anything, his cut knee will catch an infection and make him very sick
When I first saw the Flash animation, it was like it was made by freshman animating students. I met Marc Brown who created Arthur, he said it was because of the cost of animation.
Yeah it's sad when an animated show loses it's animation budget. But I will say it looks far better then what happened to the Fairly Oddparents and at least it didn't lose all of it's writing quality.
Yeah, it looks so bad and awkward. I get that because its on PBS, it won't have the most highest budget and is publicly funded. Hand-drawn animation isn't cheap but wow, Arthur in flash animation feel unnatural. At least, the episodes are still good writing wise.
I think you’d get a kick out of the AOK UA-cam series Caillou the Grownup, which depicts Caillou as a selfish, childish, psychotic adult who still lives with his parents, he drives them nuts with his selfishness and immaturity and if they don’t give into his demands he threatens to harm them.
And in the first episode the dad admits it’s their fault why he’s a messed up adult, because they spoiled him, enabled his bratty behavior, never punished him, and never told him “no”.
the thing is, big brother caillou had some promise, as they accurately portray the feeling of having a new sibling, but from the pinching scene onwards ruined whatever message they were going for. there were also 10 writers in the credits, so take that as you will
I hate to go political, but I’m sure there are certain types of mothers I know who’d stop literally any kind of wars by disciplining them. Take Queen Elinor from Pixar’s “Brave” for example. She literally grabs ALL FOUR Clan leaders by the ears!
Exactly. And DW's parents are extremely permissive toward her. Someone give HER the GoAnimate treatment! Speaking of Caillou, he's finally canceled! Good riddance, isn't it?
Well, Barney may be a little too sweet and slightly sugar coated but if you have seen more episodes than me (some Barney haters only watch one episode and automatically say it sucks) you would know that when he talks to the audience, he doesn’t treat them like idiots. Not only that, but Barney Is kind of character that wishes for world piece (something that we actually kinda need if you think of it now).
@@LardManAnimation Though, some of the songs on the show can get pretty dark. Just listen to "I'm Being Eaten By A Tyrannosaurus Rex" and that song about a rabbit nearly being shot by a hunter. Granted, both songs were from earlier seasons but man! Barney can get hardcore!
@@jenneacubero1036 Shit, I forgot about that song. I only remember because I was in the target demographic during the early days of Barney & Friends. Those were the days. Oh dread, oh dread, he's up to my... GULP!
@@LardManAnimation funnily enough, Barney stopped my younger siblings from bullying me several years ago. My dad liked this show called Rodger Ramjet and my siblings watched it so much I hated it. So, instead of listening to me and watching it a little less, they'd sing the theme song day in, day out. It went on for a whole school term... until one morning, I got up earlier than I'd meant to so I could taped a show on channel 9. As I turned on the TV, I realized I had to wait through Barney before my show would even start. Instead of going back to bed, I decided to just watch it... but, the moment the theme song started playing, a lightbulb went on in my head. The tune was EXACTLY the same as Rodger Ramjet. Now, at the time, my siblings HATED Barney. They were in that "ew. I'm too big for kids shows like that anymore" phase. So, I recorded the theme song and took every chance I could that weekend to watch it over and over until I had it memorized. 2 days later, on the car ride home from school, they started singing Rodger Ramjet's theme song. I waited for the second verse, then, with the biggest shit eating grin on my face, started singing the next verse of Barney's song judging from the tune. They stopped, looking confused, before they became HORRIFIED. They never sang the song ever again and ALWAYS fast forwards through it whenever they watched the show.
He said he could have filled this list with nothing but Caillou episodes, but didn't for the sake of variety. Plus I doubt there are any "good" Caillou episodes out there?
A supervillain in his early childhood (no pun intended on the fact that one of the only Mario games he likes being The Software Toolworks even though even Hotel Mario is better than this because of its YTP content despite its massively frustrating gameplay of just shutting down all hotel doors).
I'm actually with Arthur on this one. D.W. brought this upon herself, for not leaving her brother, or his model airplane alone. D.W. should have been punished as well. And WOW! When even Family Guy addresses how bad Caillou is, that's when you know you F***d up!
@@mileshayter7440 No problem. I have a younger sister who was self-righteous and always pure-pressured me into things I knew were wrong. Which one time, cause me to get my fingers crushed between an umbrella stand(My fingers are fine BTW. Just left a white mark that went away long ago.) So needless to say, we didn't get along all that much during childhood, but are better now as adults. Plus I'm never a fan of spoiled brat characters in TV shows and movies. Hense why I hated both D.W. from Arthur and Angelica from Rugrats.
Back when I helped teach Pre-K and K on sunday mornings, there were a few kids who behaved very poorly to say the least, and I learned it was probably because Caillou was their favorite show. I suggested the parents switch to Thomas the Tank Engine and from then on they were so much better behaved. So yes, Strider's claims are Grievous-verified.
I used to binge watch it on Netflix and I turned out great, but seriously if you're gonna talk about a brat, get more than like two episodes of content, because those two horses have been dead since 2010
This is why Caillou is BANNED in my home. He's a whiny little shithead. My nephew used to mimic him constantly, and I would rather dump acid into my eyes and ears than to see and hear my own son act that way.
I always found Arthur’s Big Hit to be really mean spirited and I think Arthur will now grow up resenting his parents for this blatant favoritism. And that’s not the only episode where Arthur’s clearly the unfavorite child
I get it. I remember another episode where DW was playing her favorite song so much it drove Arthur up the wall! Then he later gets punished for threatening to destroy her CD if she didn't knock it off! (He was trying to do his homework!" When the CD disappeared she accused him of stealing it! The rest of the episode has her ransaking his room looking for it! Arthur never took it. Their parents accidentally took it with them to the party. Even when DW discovered Arthur was innocent she never apologized to him for accusing him and messing up his room! The parents never even scold her for doing those things!
@@melissacooper4282 Now that you mention it, it seems like the parents NEVER scold DW for making Arthur’s life miserable. They only scold her when she does something to THEM. I remember an episode where DW was a picky eater, and you know what? Ok. Kids can be picky eaters at that stage in life. But the parents only scold her and try to correct her behavior after she embarrassed them in public. The unfair treatment they display between their two older kids really comes into affect when in “DWs Beastly Birthday,” they literally make Arthur give “pony rides” to a bunch of little kids, despite him telling his mom it’s hurting his back. Not to mention that they are HITTING him with a stick. “It’s just one day.” Argh.
25:58 There was actually a Betty Boop cartoon with a plot similar to this. Except in that cartoon, they couldn’t go to the circus because it was raining. Also, while I don’t condone children throwing tantrums, the way they illustrated the child breaking down into tears in that cartoon actually kinda made me feel bad for him. That’s sad when a cartoon made over 50 years prior is better for kids than one that was actually made during our lifetime! 🤨
Honestly, Boohbah is by far worse (in my opinion). For one the teletubbies at least had a plot as opposed to boohbah with random shit happening. Also, the boohbahs (if thats their name) were way more ugly and annoying.
Speaking of Mr. Rogers, I still see Stridey as the Mr. Rogers of UA-cam. I admire how he isn’t afraid to be critical on how specific episodes of children shows tend to be...well...fairly flawed. I don’t like Arthur’s portrayal in Number 9 either. It’s mostly terrible. I strongly agree with Stridey on his overall opinion on Sesame Street. :)
I was mainly hear for “Edward Strikes Out”, “Wonky Whistles” and “Arthur’s Big Hit” It’s so weird to see Edward be sooooo out of character in that episode, I would’ve expect James to act that way towards Rocky, but not Edward.
Ik that PBS isn’t really targeted for older children, but the writing is just a lot better than other channels. The other episodes definitely make up for these bad episodes.
yetitruckdrum: *makes a video about Arthur going to prison for beating up one of his slightly younger sisters DW and Caillou* PhantomStrider: I thought that would happen. Then again, he is the same cyberbully that slandered and harassed me on “Top 5 Worst (or in his case, ‘Best’) Films of 2016” before I ever found out, so I shouldn’t be surprised.
30:20 Holy shit! He bites her?! You’re sick, Canada! You’re sick! But don’t get me wrong, I really like Caillou from my childhood. As it’s actually not meant to be about Caillou being a brat, but using his imagination to go on adventures or exploring the world around him. But they oddly focus on him throwing temper tantrums and overall being toxic way too much. But *THIS!* *THIS* is way too far!
“So funny I forgot to laugh” is such a terrible episode. They handled the message badly and Arthur acted completely out of character. This is not only one of the worst episodes of the series, but one of the worst episodes I’ve ever seen. It’s like on par with episodes like everyone knows it’s bendy or make em up pals from FOSTER home for imaginary friends.
I think the episode might have (big maybe) if it was Buster taking a joke too far. Really, I think this episode was just out of place. Like they were teaching what harassment was, but didn’t know how.
I hated the episode because Arthur was so out of character for teasing Sue Ellen. And Sue Ellen was out of character for taking it and eventually telling Mr. Ratburn. She normally would've confronted the bully herself.
@@zebraterabyteztproductions9595 There’s a difference between a joke and harassment. What Arthur did qualifies as harassment. She told him to stop and he wouldn’t.
@@mondenkindqueen I've forgotten that she told Arthur to stop first before she reported him to Mr. Ratburn. I did remember that Arthur harrassed her to the point that she was considering transferring to another school!
I think what would've helped the moral is DW becoming scared of Author after he hits her, it's realistic, and maybe he realizes how it's affected her and starts to feel bad, also it makes sense, DW is a pretty sheltered spoiled kid, so the idea of someone straight up punching her for her actions would mess with her world view
Yeah, if we saw DW actually upset, kids would get why hitting is wrong. Like, show the punch, and show DW completely freak out, since her older brother just punched her, and she is a tiny child. Have DW afraid to go outside. Have her afraid to talk to the big kids. And show that just because DW is annoying, and can be a brat, she's still a kid.
That sounds like it could’ve been an amazing episode with Arthur and DW possibly even getting a better brother and sister relationship once everything has been cleared up
@@ThePhantomSafetyPin Agreed! I've built a few Gundam models myself, So I can relate to Arthur snapping at D.W., for breaking something he worked so hard on.
The worst part about "So Funny I Forgot to Laugh" is Sue Ellen. She is tough and assertive. Literally one of the first episodes of the show is about her not standing up to Binky's bullying. Yet in this episode she is a pushover and actually attempts to SWITCH CLASSES because of how mean Arthur is being. Arthur and Sue Ellen are amazing friends, and it makes no sense that she would feel that bad about the joke. If this was realistic, Sue Ellen would've tried to resolve it with Arthur more. She had that one confrontation after the locker incident, but from that point onward, she only talked to Mr. Ratburn. And of course, Arthur was insufferable in this episode as well.
The worst Arthur episodes were the later ones when Kate, Pal, Amigo, Killer & Mae Lyn were able to communicate between each other. It made no sense, as Arthur was a show for older kids..
Strange to make Edward torment someone, I always that role would be suited for James or Percy. Ed was always a gentleman. Sometimes I wonder what these guys were on when they wrote this stuff.
@Renai Circular Motion Well, he is an older engine and I think they tried to play off that, by making him like an old person commenting on new technology, but it just didn't work.
I like how Edward was like "no, we don't need Rocky, Harvey's doing it" apparently forgetting how uncharacteristically prejudiced he was against Harvey himself when HE first arrived
Are you assuming she is a mom based on a photo of her holding a baby from like several years ago (the one used for the Teletubbies reboot), or is it true that she is a mom?
There’s a reason why Edward was my favorite character in early season Thomas the Tank Engine, even more than Thomas, because he originally was one of the few characters with common sense and cared about how others felt. Even after James insults him in an episode Edward still saves him in the end. This is a complete 180. I’m not too surprised about Gordon because he usually acts like this anyways but Edward is the last character that I would expect this from. This episode makes him look presumptuous and discriminatory. I don’t have anything against having unfriendly, bossy, or spoiled characters in a show(in fact what’s makes it enjoyable is when they get what is coming to them) however when your characters are acting completely different it can ruin the story. They could have had James in this episode and it would have made some sense. This would be like Thomas suddenly bossing everyone around. Thomas is reckless at times but he’s never been shown as stuck-up or as a bully. Depending upon the plot, characters acting completely opposite is one thing that makes a show less enjoyable because it makes people ask what the issue is. This is why in later seasons of SpongeBob I came to hate my former favorite character Patrick Star. Patrick used to be stupid and annoying in a charming way, but his character took a dive to the point where he acts like a jerk with no motive for his behavior other than being dumb. In season 3 an episode focused on this and SpongeBob tries to make his friend look smart which leads to Patrick being so obnoxious and annoying that it drives SpongeBob through the wall screaming
My favorite pbs shows from when I was a kid: Arthur, Sesame street, Cyberchase, Fetch w/ Ruff Ruffman, and some others I don't want to type. But my favorite our of all of them was Cyber Chase
I have the utmost respect for Fred Rogers. What was really cool was discovering that someone I knew actually met him. She had wondered for decades how her father came to know him. I'm very grateful to have solved that mystery for her. There's a long list of ways that Mr. Rogers changed the world for the better. Thank you so much for what you said about Teletubbies. When I was 13, I was shocked to learn that some of my classmates actually watched it. I watched one episode. It left me traumatized. For awhile I watched Cailou. Then one episode made me realize how lousy the parents are. The episode was when the parents held a late night dinner. For some reason they thought a 4 year old could sleep with a bunch of noise. I'm surprised that the 2 year old slept. Here's a better way to have held this party. Realize that a 4 year old is not prepared for dealing with a noisy party after bedtime. Have him sleep at a friend's or relative's house that night. Then all of the guests have toddlers. How many babysitters are in this neighborhood? They already think of the grandparents as free babysitters. Maybe a few times a year would be fine, but this is so common that the kids have their own rooms. These people already did the job of parenting. Stop trying to make them raise your own. I know child care is expensive, but this particular family isn't needing for anything.
I almost thought they were gonna rip apart Caillou with a horrifically dark joke like if the parents finally had enough of Caillou's bratty behavior and had the courage to brutally beat him to death. Soon after they decide to either bury his dead body or dissolve it in a bathtub filled with acid.
I remember D.W.'s Bad Day and I was confused and upset about the whole thing: She's upset because a girl that she DOESN'T LIKE and who DOESN'T LIKE HER EITHER...never invited her to a birthday party. I don't see why she'd be upset! I mean, you both acknowledge that you don't like each other, why the fuck would they invite someone who they don't like to show up to their party, that's a drama spell waiting to happen! D.W. to me has always been that Entitled Brat you read on R/Entitled Parents
I think one important detail that was overlooked was even though DW herself wasn't invited, her best friend Emily was. She may have felt left out or something. But yeah her bad mood is a little to over the top but keep in mind she's 4.
Like PB H said, DW’s friend Emily was invited. So, it’s more about the fact that the girl she didn’t like took her best friend (in her eyes). People call DW a brat, but I don’t think she’s that bad. Honestly, I kinda related to her in that episode. Being left out totally sucks!
Actually, it's worse than you think; the girl isn't even someone she doesn't like. She even refers to her as not one of her "closest friends" and someone she doesn't play with that often.
Strider, Michael's narration on Thomas sounded bored and absolutely dead since around Season 7. Not being mean, just saying it wasn't JUST for Edward Strikes Out.
I think it began when Hit Entertainment bought the rights of the show from Britt Allcroft after she resigned in the wake of Thomas and the Magic Railroad's failure. They essentially dumbed down the show and I think Angelis's narration from that point onwards shows the lack of enthusiam he had from that point, yet he kept going until series 16, though ex-James Bond Pierce Brosnan narrated a special episode during that time.
@@matthewskidmore2397 Yeah, pretty much. He was really enthusiastic in Season 6, I wonder if he knew the show was "losing steam" by reading the 7th Season scripts, or if it was an issue related to his age. I doubt that it was the latter, since there was only a 1 year gap between Seasons 6 and 7.
Last we heard, Caillou got pulled off PBS's lineup. And then... Cartoon Network rolled out their own Kids subsection. And then we sensed a disturbance, one not felt since 2019-ish.
Not only was Arthur out of character in "So Funny I Forgot to Laugh", but so was Sue Ellen. She was the first person in Arthur's class to stand up to Binky, yet she doesn't even get sharp with Arthur at any point in the episode.
Fun facts about Teletubbies: Many theorize that Boohbah is a ripoff of Teletubbies Tinky Winky (played by the late Simon Shelton) was criticized for carrying a red purse carried by adults. The sun baby was played by Jessica Smith The original run of the series 1997-2001 was filmed at the now tragically flooded Wimpstone Farm near Ragdoll's HQ ar Straford upon Avon, Warwickshire It had a short-lived 10-minutes spinoff in 2002 called Teletubbies Everywhere which had the characters multiplying themselves and shows the TV event films being filmed at different countries and dubbed in different languages.
Also, as an American, I thought he was talking about the other Michael. Maybe he did a better job, but it's been an insanely long amount of time since I touched anything in seasons 9-16.
I'm gonna be straight with ya, Strider: even as a kid, I absolutely DESPISED Caillou! NEVER understood why some people could tolerate it. Saying he's obnoxious would be like saying the sky is blue, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about the "minimalist style" of the show. Seriously, why is there SO MUCH unfinished background? Maybe they were trying for a picture-book kinda feel, but from my recollection most picture books...erm...ya know...have things in them? Like, seriously, why is there so much white background? Even shows animated with Flash aren't this lazy & a strain on the eyes! >.< Edit: Hold up! Hold up! Hold up! THIS SHOW HAD A STORY-BOOK SERIES!? That clinches it: the style of the show is LAZIER than even its own SOURCE MATERIAL! How the flippa-dee-do-dah do you even MANAGE that!? Give Peppa Pig SOME leeway, at the very least, its laziness on BOTH forms of media are CONSISTENT! :/
Canada needs to admit about the damage they did to kids with Caillou and how bad their show was because… I’LL NEVER FORGIVE THEM, FOR WRITING THAT KID LIKE THIS!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE THAT BRAT SO MUCH! THE WORST ANIMATED CHARACTER I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED!!!
I actually watched So Funny I Forgot to Laught a few weeks back and yeah... I don't think I've ever seen someone so out of character. Arthur wasn't even flanderized, his behavior is in NO connection to his character in any way shape or form. This could have worked with Muffy or Binky but Arthur of all characters?? And you wanna know what could have erased a lot of the problems of Arthur's Big Hit? At the scene of Arthur hitting her, instead of DW bitching about how Arthur built the plane wrong, instead have her genuinely apologize for breaking it. And THEN have Arthur hit her anyways. That would put Arthur in the wrong and justify his punishment. Even if you kept the rest of the episode exactly the same, this one change could have drastically changed the scope of the episode. Instead, I felt no sympathy for DW at all and I honestly think Arthur was completely justified in hitting her. I'm a 19 year old man and I'd probably clock her myself
Luna_Lotus Don’t forget that one episode that parodied Macbeth where Muffy manipulated Francine into putting Buster’s alien toy in Brain’s backspace so Brain could get in trouble and Francine could win Student of the Month. And then later manipulated Francine to get Arthur and Buster in trouble when they started to suspect that Brain was framed. All she cared about was her lunch with that weather man she fawns over throughout the episode, she didn’t even seem to care that she was getting her friends into trouble. And at the end of the episode, when Francine and Muffy both confess to their crimes, Muffy gets rewarded by going with Brain to eat on the lunch with the weatherman while Francine has to stay behind and do community service. 🤦♂️
To fix the Big Bird moving episode How about it being about Big Bird showing some of the kids a postcard he got from his bird friends that lives in a different habitat? The kids can be curious and ask about the habitats then big bird can call upon his friend which is a habitat expert You can still keep Lin Mirenda and the rapping but just change the character and the premise of the episode you still get the same message about habitats
6:28 A more clever writer would have had Arthur’s letter of apology be at least somewhat sincere, and then have someone else send her this insensitive sheepdog picture. Naturally, she would think it was Arthur, and (now that he’s seeing it as an outsider looking in) Arthur finally understands the insensitivity of his joke and sets out to find the new culprit.
7:19 OMG I remember that episode....even as a child I was APPAULED and shocked at how they portrayed Edward in that episode. Edward, the wisest, most fatherly and caring character in that show, was (and it pains me to say this) a complete and total jerk in that episode and I've got no idea what the writers were thinking. Watching this as an adult makes me realise this about tenfold how out of character he was in that episode....much like what you said earlier on about that Arthur episode: it was like Edward was being a "nasty jerk who took a stupid pill in the morning". Granted I'm glad he redeemed himself in it but....still....that should never have happened in the first place. It was like Edward wasn't even being Edward in that episode. He was acting more like James and honestly I'm not even sure if James would have been that cruel or not...so yeah as an Edward fan, I've got a lot of beef with that episode. I wish I knew what the writers were thinking when they made it. (Also I too agree TTTE pretty much went downhill after switching to CGI...don't get me started on BWBA) (Also Caillou....OMG I knew that show was horrid but that episode you mentioned at the end made me feel sick inside. The sad part is, with a few minor changes, "Caillou Goes to the Circus" would be an acceptable episode:
For starters, instead of Caillou simply getting the day wrong, have the circus be cancelled altogether, so the audience has a _real_ reason to sympathize with him. Secondly, instead of bawling and throwing a fit, have Caillou be depressed and/or bored for about half the day so the audience would find him more relatable and will sympathize with him more, before getting into the main "circus at home" part of the episode.
Please reply if you think the episode needs any more changes.
That would make Caillou so much more tolerable.
Your idea works!
That or have the parents finally beat the hell out of caillou for his wrong doings
I really like your idea dude. Seriously, you could easily write way better books than the original Caillou books (not that they are any good to begin with, tho)
Two more things I would change is…
1. I would make them cheer him up by decorating the house like a circus
2. NOT MAKE THE TOOTHPASTE LOOK LIKE A PINK BUBBLE BEARD
I'm sorry but I just cant see an episode of Sesame Street where Alexander Hamilton tries to sell real estate to Big Bird though rap as being bad.
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE WAS GOING TO MENTION THIS XD
I thought the rapping was ok as he described the variety of creatures in the Rainforest
I could write a full musical with that concept
Yeah I was gonna say, I was surprised that Lin Manuel Miranda was in such a low rated episode. The pushy real estate agent is probably something thrown in for adults watching
It wouldn't be the first time someone convinced Big Bird to leave home. Remember "Follow That Bird"?
For real though, PBS has to be one of the least problematic channels to date, even if they are sometimes under the radar nowadays to companies like Disney and Nickelodeon. I remember PBS the fondest.
At least they aren't like modern Disney and Nickelodeon. **shudders**
Some of my all time favorite shows are from PBS.

Well said
This guy definetly deserves credit for typing all that, I'm really proud of this guy.
Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking :)
And the writers never once apologized for this terrible episode.
@Jason Gonzales / Flandre Scarlet is Cute!!!! IKR?

I know, right? The episode with Molly did it way better. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the episode.

The first is how she feels when she overheard her parents fighting, and starts getting visions about them getting divorced or hating each other forever. Child’s imagination and also sympathetic.
The second is when she just starts playing around with sounds, making a choir out of doo dads and things. She actually had something she was passionate about, a way to express herself. And as an artist, I’m a bit biased towards that kind of thing.
I also liked the episode with the Fire Drill because it showed her being afraid of fires, but helped Tommy calm down and get him through the halls.
I also like that episode where she heard a curse word.
I like the one where Arthur cuts his knee on a lima bean can because D.W., for once, seems genuinely worried about him when it happens. It makes her much easier to like.

When I first saw the Flash animation, it was like it was made by freshman animating students. I met Marc Brown who created Arthur, he said it was because of the cost of animation.

The Flash-animated seasons of the show is a _really_ bad influence on animators like me.
UA-cam can do better.

D.W. should have been punished as well.

So needless to say, we didn't get along all that much during childhood, but are better now as adults.
So yes, Strider's claims are Grievous-verified.

no wonder its been pulled from reruns
The the kids beg to buy caillou merchandise so they can make more MONEY
I don't think that Caillou is being that bad. I grew up watching Caillou and I'm perfectly normal in terms of behavior.

There was actually a Betty Boop cartoon with a plot similar to this.

“So funny I forgot to laugh” is such a terrible episode. They handled the message badly and Arthur acted completely out of character.

She 100% deserved it and I don't blame Arthur for snapping.
@@ThePhantomSafetyPin Yes, I don't blame Arthur either.

@@ThePhantomSafetyPin Agreed! I've built a few Gundam models myself, So I can relate to Arthur snapping at D.W., for breaking something he worked so hard on.
"So funny I forgot to laugh" should be rename to "Savage Arthur roasts Sue Ellen the entire episode"
But he's not savage is the problem he's just annoying and rude and out of character
Bad writing.

The Teletubbies' Sun Baby is a girl and she is now a mother. Let that sink in.

Why are you asking Arthur if he’s ever seen a sheepdog? We’re talking about a character who’s supposed to be an aardvark.

Seeing family guy not only talk about Caillou but also criticize their family dynamics gives me life.

(Also I too agree TTTE pretty much went downhill after switching to CGI...don't get me started on BWBA)
(Also Caillou....OMG I knew that show was horrid but that episode you mentioned at the end made me feel sick inside. Goodness...)
Even as a kid I hated Edward strikes out as well also you wish you still have cgi Thomas compared to what’s coming next
