  • On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, a very important day in World War II history, I got trackside again. But this time I felt like I needed a break from Collier Yard and decided to go to downtown and later to Chesterfield. Enjoy the video.
Train #1: After 10:00 AM, Amtrak Regional #67 went south alongside the James River.
    1. P42 #175
Train #2 (1:02): NS V24 (I'm guessing, idk) goes by with a GP38-2 rebuild leading a very light load of only two tank cars. On the scanner, they called the locomotive number, the track authority, and that he would work from Richmond to Fair Oaks, but never gave an actual symbol.
    1. GP38-2 #5113
(2:14): We see some track maintenance vehicles working on the CSX Peninsula Sub.
Train #3 (3:33): I got bored after a while, and seeing that they were doing track work, I figured the line would be slow anyway, so I relocated to Thurston Road at Centralia, which is Virginia Railfan Productions' usual go-to spot. Amtrak P089 speeds by while entering the work zone (they were doing track work on the Bellwood Sub).
    1. Amtrak P42 #146
Train #4 (5:45): CSX Q416 barrels through with a massive sized consist and some doublestacks on the end. The conductor waved to me, which was really nice. You can also see a rodent chilling near the tracks before the train comes.
    1. ES40DC #5312
    2. AC4400CW #136
Train #5 (10:05): CSX V730 enters the Bellwood Sub, and I drive over to Brinkley Road just in time to catch him clanking by. After that, I caught the tail end of it crossing over Kingsland Road.
    1. ES44AH #3159
    2. ES44AH #909
Train #6 (14:49): After coming back to Thurston, Amtrak P080 blew by. Some car driver passing by was curious about me filming trains, and he decided to stick around for a bit and watch this train go by as well. Around the time he noticed #80 coming, he was already passing under 288.
    1. P42 #197
Train #7 (16:14): Sometime later, Amtrak P092 was called at Walthall, two signals away. After entering the work zone, he cruised through Centralia.
    1. P42DC #45
Train #8 (20:05): In the previous clip, I stated that something coming south cleared Milepost 4, but it took its sweet time getting here. It happened to be Carolinian #79 on its southbound run.
    1. P42 #165
(22:36): Short clip of a deer near the tracks.
Train #9 (23:33): CSX V612 comes north with a five locomotive lashup consisting of a YN2 AC44 leading a YN3B AC44 and some GEVOs. This may be the best catch of today. I had to go down to Centralia to catch it switching onto the Bellwood, because a southbound was due and I knew I'd miss it if I went to Brinkley. There was a long line of cars waiting to cross the tracks.
    1. AC4400CW #341
    2. AC4400CW #557
    3. ES40DC #5368
    4. ES44AH #3113
    5. ES44AC #810
Train #10 (32:02): Another southbound was coming as V612 was crawling along. I barely had any time to turn around at the Waffle House parking lot when the gates activated. H750 comes racing south with two front end engines and its usual DPU. It was also interesting how it come from the A-Line rather than from the Bellwood, but it was probably because of the Bellwood Sub's track work. They probably took it from Fulton to Acca, then ran it south on the North End Sub.
    1. CSX ES44AH #3179
    2. CSX ET44AH #3275
    3. CSX ET44AH #3377 (mid-DPU)
Train #11 (34:05): After coming back, Amtrak Palmetto #90 came rushing north.
    1. P42 #144
Train #12 (35:18): CSX Q031 is next in line. Today its DPU is facing south, rather than the opposite direction.
    1. CSX ET44AH #3456
    2. CSX ES44AH #3065 (mid-DPU)
Train #13 (39:16): Amtrak P095 heads south toward Norfolk. This is my first time to catch 95 at this location since the schedule change.
    1. Amtrak P42 #167
Train #14 (40:57): We wrap it up with P091 blasting by.
    1. P42DC #198
