Greatest summer of my life ...The Rave scene. Madchester .My mates and I all single .The weather ...Not the greatest world cup ever but England flying by the seat of there pants and a bona fied Genius in Paul Gascoigne...Great Times.
Oh dear, there's always some idiots!..And ur name sake totally cancelled out the England Midfield back then.. .And I didn't think that game was so bad,it was a hard fought game between players who knew each other a little to well.
Still one of the best world cup tournaments, I was 13/14 and the excitement was fantastic, seeing Gazza in his prime is shocking seeing what became of him
Correct👍.. and I wonder if some of the more contemporary fans can notice that back then the players were still playing with a firmer, better weighted and certainly(imo)more suitable footBall, Which only allowed those players with elite skill and technique to pull off rare&magical moments. .The goals by Giannini (Italy)and Lothar Matthaus (arguably& possibly the best and most complete Midfield player we've seen in the last 60 yrs)were fantastic.. These days u see players pulling off all manner of "Circus"Tricks only because no one is going to make a decent and honest tackle and the ball is so f##king lightweight and the "Football Pitches are like "Putting greens". .Yep,I have no doubts whatsoever that the game in general was better and this World Cup was def one of the best!(maybe after the world cup of 1970)My apologies for the Rant..ITALIA 90👍👍☘️
Funnily enough, at the time, Italia 90 was slated as the WORST World Cup ever, full of cynical, negative play. It had the lowest goals-per-game ratio in the history of the tournament, and too many of the top stars off form for the quality level to rise to the top. My suspicion is that nostalgia is distorting memories of how dull a lot of the matches were. Irish fans in particular are likely to see the tournament as 'The Good Old Days' as they have never done as well in any subsequent tournament. England fans too perhaps remember it as more exciting than they should, as it was the only time until 2018 that they got to an overseas semi-final. I've discovered down the years that if you rewatch the full 90 minutes of even the English and Irish matches at Italia 90 in the cold light of day, it can come as a shock to realise how slow and undramatic they often were. It can also be startling to realise, given the mania about him at the time, just how little Paul Gascoigne really did at the tournament. Also, Jerry, believe it or not, the ball was the same weight then as it is now. It was a bit less streamlined back in 1990 perhaps, but the legal weight of the ball has never changed in over 150 years. I personally own a ball based on the design from the 50s, one based on the one from the 60s, one based on the one from the 90s, and a modern one. They all weigh exactly the same, although the surface becomes firmer, rougher and less consistently rounded the older the design. A thought; if the design of the ball made top skills rarer, as you suggest, surely that means the tournament was lousy compared with subsequent ones?
@@martinodoni8943 nostalgia your right it's like watching re runs of the A team what a load of crap it was, but I must digress England tried against Cameroon and Germany
At 06:23 flatscreen panel in the studio. I noticed that on a few videos from 1980s and early 1990s but flatscreen TVs didn't become popular in households till around 2005?
FOUR LEDGEES of the game. Our kid for the Engerland Greavsie and Shilton. British players The Saint and Jennings. World class ballers. This was the last best Engerland team to witness on the custard italia 90. the 2018 world cup team didnt want it!!!
Oh Lord, I had forgotten about Thomas Brolin. So, Sweden are famous not only for pop quartet ABBA inventing the seat-belt & the Volvo motor car.... But also for producing Mr. Brolin too. 😮 I had also forgotten about Gary Newbon, he wasn't Swedish as well was he...? 😮
Robson and Gascoigne in midfield against Holland were awesome. Shame Robson got injured. I'm convinced that if Robson had played against Germany we would have beaten them .
Talking about the Italian, german, brazilian players playing the ball out from the back as opposed to the English.Bit ahead of their time there to be fair to them.
Greavsie died yesterday; they did a minute's applause for him at the Tottenham v Chelsea game in which Chelsea battered the hosts 0-3. Tottenham's star striker, Harry Kane, did little to honour the memory of the great man; he's probably still throwing a strop cuz he didnt get that big money move to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. Boycie from Only Fools and Horses also died yesterday.
Interesting facts; Scotland *did* beat Sweden in the match that followed. It was the last time Scotland won a game in the finals of a World Cup. It was also only the third match Scotland have ever won in the finals of a major tournament. #Underachievers
4th. Beat zaire 2-0 in 74, holland 3-2 in 78, new zealand 5-2 in 82 and then this game vs sweden in 90. The sweden game is the only match ive seen scotland win a world cup match.
West Germany v USSR... significant... last time before they changed their names of their countries. I would think after Italia 90 it would have been Germany v Russia
@drw78 He's programmed & very miserable as a result. I would like to see the fellas face watching the casual sexism in a Carry On film. He would cry his sensitive eye's out. 😢
They were right that game against Ireland was awful but the following game against the Dutch was like watching a different team England were so much better. Plus the newspapers were the same as always. Slating England after the first game yet by the time the semi finals came around they were totally behind them.
At 7.34 that England team should have been the one they played through the tournament..England should have won that match but Lineker screwed so many chances...
This is why football is so boring today. So.serious and important, it's a game meant to be enjoyed and and a hobby. How sky and the premier League have took all that away from.us and the money.
Remember this episode , its funny now they picked up on England lack of football and today England still have an issue with playing the game. Long balls, that 1990 team had Barnes,Gazza,Waddle,Beardlsy players who had great talent on the ball but played with no flair
Best times to be a footy fan. God I miss the old days.
And me. 😢 Brilliant days. 😁

The best football show ever on TV, I don't watch any football shows now days as they are all boring, God bless them both for great memories 🏐⚽️
It’s a Funny Old Game indeed for Ian St John & Jimmy Greaves R.I.P to both Ot Them who Are Sadly Gone
What a great combination were Saint and Greavesie whoever paired them up was a genius. How they're missed
Their World Cup show was an absolute belter!
i just want to apologize on behalf of the five nutters who have disliked this video. Fantastic show and great memories. Thanks for posting

Brian Moore was a brilliant commentator
Classic stuff. It’s all too serious now adays.
At 06:23 flatscreen panel in the studio. I noticed that on a few videos from 1980s and early 1990s but flatscreen TVs didn't become popular in households till around 2005?
Would have been too expensive

Hannibal Barca totally agree
The look on the England players faces when Nigel Kennedy started to play 'Vivaldi's 'Bluegrass' Four Seasons' was an classic!
Can’t beat a bit of saint and greavsie!top draw!!
Tomas Brolin... a nightmare for England in Euro 92.

If my aunt had balls she'd still be my aunt, just now with balls, and she could race all of my other aunts..
26 Billion Italians; that is impressive!
Poor Saint never gets a word in on the Shilton interview.
Cha Bum-Kun of South Korea achieved 135 caps for his country and retired in 1986. Sack the ITV researchers
Who watched this shit in the 80s?
I DID :-)
They were bloody excellent working together . Worth watching . Better then the crap served up by the present over paid lot on the bbc .
Talking about the Italian, german, brazilian players playing the ball out from the back as opposed to the English.Bit ahead of their time there to be fair to them.

Two greats, Greaves & Boycie. Who is Harry Kane...?
Tony Francis doing an Alan Partridge there lmfao
Top quality banter. It really is.
Greaves prediction about West Germany was correct

I wonder if David Keys had fun spending his 2k?
spent it on spemtex
Take me back
To be fair to Scotland costa rica had a good team in 1990.
Jimmy made a good point, the pass Waddle produced for Linkeker's goal was top draw..
GIZZA
GOAL
GAZZA

can you please upload the 18 April 1992 episode of SAINT AND GREAVSIE
No way
Greavsie's casual racism his highly entertaining 😊
What racism?
@drw78 He's programmed & very miserable as a result.

Shilton must treasure that cheap cigarette box or whatever it is
look like something rosenthal pick up from a secondhand pawn shop
He probably lost it in a cards match within minutes of getting it
Greavsie tipped west germany..
England v Ireland worst game I've ever seen .
England 0 Holland 0, Rep Ireland 0 Egypt 0, Scotland 2 Sweden 1.
Back when you could make jokes
