    This was so easy… I vacuumed and cleaned out with a toothbrush..then applied the CRC spray two separate times. (CRC from Ace Hardware). Just like new! CRC was $11.98 😮, but a small price to pay vs removing and replacing the fan. Thank you for the video.

    These motors do have oil wicks in each bearing cap, the factory grease does dry up and will need to be replenished. i always refill the oil wicks with zoom spout oil to assure a long life, my bathroom fans are older (‘98) yet still function as if they were installed yesterday, I never use wd40 because it is not meant for long term lubrication.

    • @mbjdiy1778
      @mbjdiy1778  Місяць тому

      DIY at its best one thing please know ... Internet : Mineral oil is flammable and combustible, but it doesn't ignite easily under normal conditions. Its flash point is around 145-165°C (275-347°F), and its autoignition temperature is 260-370°C (500-698°F). When heated above its flash point, mineral oil releases vapors that can ignite if exposed to a source of ignition. In enclosed spaces, heated vapors can ignite explosively. Mists or sprays of mineral oil can also burn at temperatures below its flash point.

    Contrary to belief, the motor bearings can be oiled, but it must be type SAE-20.
    When the motor starts rattling or squealing, that means all the lubricant in the bearings have dried up.
    Disassembly will be required to properly oil the bearings.

    • @mbjdiy1778
      @mbjdiy1778  3 роки тому +2

      To add to that a bit. I've NEVER seen a fan come lubed with grease from the factory. If you ever find one I'd like to see it. Every one I've ever seen has had some kind of light weight oil applied for lubrication.Not to lubricated after the factory ... most bearings are sealed and all you are lubricating the transformer or exposed shaft that will shorten life ... This is your call ... what i do works for me .. as my my grandfather said nothing last forever ... squealing noise is either dirty or the bearing is already done ... car wheel bearings need repacking but high speed bearings don't ... like Schaeffler Group USA Inc. Bearings Awesome bearings !!! ... Good luck God Bless ... works for me

    • @ct1660
      @ct1660 3 роки тому

      @@mbjdiy1778 hence the disassembly required to get to the bearings. The two ends that hold the shaft contain the bearings.
      Many motors already have a wick that holds the oil, usually long enough for a 5-year run.

      @@mbjdiy1778 the downward trend of increasingly declining quality was notable around 2004-ish. It's a miracle if anything made nowadays can make it past a year. It's why I've also refused to buy a modern fan, and keep a fleet of old fans that are still fully serviceable.
      modern fans are engineered to fail, no matter what you do. This is especially true with the summer special box fans you can find in stores, those now even use an IC that makes repairing a nightmare if the fuse blows.
      Some types of motors, like those used in commercial grade fans and even bath fans, can be prolonged, even against the manufacturer's wishes. The wick would only need to be oiled at least twice a year to ensure it's still lubricated. King Of Fans and TPI are two brands off the top of my head that I know still provides oil ports for their fan motors.

    Hi,
    I wonder if I can get your thoughts on my Broan-Nutone bathroom fan situation.
    I have two; one in each bathrooms in the house.
    The one in bath#2 is "sqeaky/screaming" compared to the one in bath#1.
    No gunk or crud on either.
    Last year, I removed the entire motor assembly thinking I needed replace it with a brand new one I bought from Home Depot.
    When I took the old motor+fan assembly and plugged it in a wall outlet, it ran fairly quietly.
    Yet, when I put the assembly back into the ceiling, the "squeak/screaming" was back.
    Any ideas what is causing this?
