@Vlačko A hivemind is sentient though, i think it's more likely that something managed to corrupt the hivemind of the fleet. As a tyranid fleet without their synaptic link wouldn't really pose that big of a problem to deal with and would certainly not be "worse" than a normal fleet.

EDP 445 was last seen entering the Ghoul Stars
Breaking News!Malaysia airlines flight 370 last seen entering ghoul starts
I tend to favour the idea of the Necrontyr originating here. It has been mentioned more than once that the Necrontyr/Necrons discovered multiple other dimensions in their search for SPF 30+ Sunscreen and even created some pocket dimensions for their own use based on these discoveries (Like the little clubhouse the Deathmarks chill out in before plane-shifting into battle to snipe fools in the face).
.
It would make a lot of sense that the Necrontyr accidentally discovered said nightmare dimension in this time and with all their spacetime fuckery, either weakened the fabric of reality enough to allow the nightmare dimension to push back, creep/leak in or just ran out of interdimensional no-more-gaps and forgot to get some more before either civil wars or the Old Ones became a more pressing issue.
.
Although, having said that, the death of the Flayer C'tan was said to have serious, permanent affects on the galaxy and the very fabric of reality itself due to all C'tan being a fundamental part of existence. Its the reason why the Necrons never killed another C'tan and made sure to only ever shard them after his death. So it also fits that his death may have resulted in the creepy voodoo/fundamental wrongness and inherent, contagious madness that permeates the Ghoul Stars. Especially considering how the only Necron Empire to remain there had almost every single Necron in it save for the overlord reduced to a Flayed One.
If GW actually has someone write something like that that'd be pretty fascinating to look into.
@@PunishedVenomDrake +
I agree and personally would love GW to start expanding into other areas of their lore like this. There's so much they could be exploring and making the most but it's getting wasted right now.
@@justinanderson2460I’d love for them to do this, however I think the Ghoul Stars should also remain strong mewhat ambiguous in a similar vein to Dark Space (the gap between galaxies).
I think an awesome way to explore the ancient history and lore of the place would be for a civilian or space marine ship to be knocked off coarse by a warp storm and stuck in the outer edges, and due to the Nav system being temporarily disabled they kinda just go in without knowing what it is.
When they go in the story of the various effects of the Ghoul Stars could slowly kill off or transform both names and unnamed characters until they finally reach something. This could be the Necron Overlord who isn’t affected by the Flayer Virus, but what ever it is could provide exposition.
Then either the ship meets its end to some lovecraftian monster, the flayers, or in true Warhammer style, the escape and are captured, studied and then killed by either the Inquisition or a space marine chapter.
I mean hey, it would make sense if the necrons came from there, given how brutal the War in Heaven was. Must have been ground zero or something.
7:07 When Nids go into the Ghoul Stars, come out insane, and declare the area a no-fly-zone, you know it's best for everyone to avoid that place.
Interesting. A true Lovecraftian horror in 40k would be cool to see, especially in competition with chaos. That said though...it looks like pissing off the Black Templars is a pretty sure way to see some horror too.
2:04 No wonder the Macharius Crusade stopped when his troops refused to continue the conquest due to their fear of what lay beyond the known reaches of space that the Astronomicon cannot reach there.
It wasn't the Ghoul Stars where Macharius stopped his crusade. It was at the edge of the Halo Stars.

I like the idea that just like caos and the Warp have the eye of terror, this third nigthmare dimension has the ghoul stars. Imagine the prospect of christian inspiered deamos fighting against lovecraftian inspired entities
It would really give Warhammer a breath of freash air in terms of big baddies, and since it would be a third unexplored dimension that is non-warp related, it dosent really mess up pre-existing lore.
I admit it would be cool but a lot of the chaos demons have some lovecraft inspiration anyway (especially the spawns) There would be a lot of work to differentiate some of them.
I don't think it would give fresh air. I think it would lessen the impact of chaos, that is already lessened by the "Unfhatomable C'Tan" and the "Innumerable Tyranids". At some point, I think on the contrary the Warp is under-utilised with just the basic chaos fuckery, while it could have a lot more supernatural effects like those described in this video.
I would love for Trayzn to pokeball Angron and then release him in the ghouls stars.
"There you go Angron, blood for the blood god and all that. Just remember you're already insane so the stars affect can't hurt you"
Imagine being so twisted that the Tyrannids see you and go "haha, ye, no thanks bro"
You know its a bad neighborhood when your nearest "named" star is Desperation.
Just stars filled with Death Monsters, Ghosts of lost demented souls, Necrons dripping in strange meats and . . . . . . . The bois at 5am on a Saturday morning after a night of Mums and Dads.
Here's my theory: If the warp is the source of spirits and souls, what about nulls and pariahs? They supposedly have no soul, hence their nullifying effect on warp based fuckery, and yet they still live as if they have some sort of anti-soul. Now what if this new nightmerish dimension is the source of the null's powers and anti-souls? It could also have been actually created as a pocket dimension by the c'tan and necrons by accident during the war in heaven.
I like this theory that the energy from the Ghoul, Halo and Tyrant stars can create nulls would be superb

There is one faction that we all know and love that live there.
The Death Guard. Their codex more or less says that once they found out that this is a place where no one can live they said "challenge accepted" and moved on in some time after the great scouring. As of the current narrative, they're having to send an entire plague company there because of some major problem. Even the Death Guard are having a rough time of it.
I like the idea that the old Necron Overlord with his Flayed Kingdom is actually only there to protect the reality destroying weapons left by his kind
It's a good idea though it's probably more probable that he stays out of a sense of regret for unleashing the Flayer virus in the first place when his Dynasty completely annihilated the C'tan The Flayer
Hopefully if they add a new race it'll be one from the Ghoul Stars. Personally I'd love to see the Barghesi added who are apparently more violent than the Orks and 'Nids put together, although that said theres basically no information about them other than 'they bad juju and need several marine chapters to keep an eye on them'
The events of the Lion's Primarch novel also took place in the Ghoul Stars IIRC, and the Khrave do have some major Lovecraftian vibes themselves.

IF the ghoul stars are home to a unshattered C´tan its proberbly the Outsider.
Some legends says that it alone among its kind was never shattered and was driven insane by the Laughing God.
So if we give the Outsider reality warping powers it is possible that there are no third dimension creatures, but that they where living creatures maybe even just single celled organisms caught and twisted by the insanity of The Outsider into what they became.
It could also be the place where the flayed one c'tan got killed. They say that you can't kill a c'tan else reality itself becomes more unstable, so that could've cause that area of space to become e so horrible.

Man I just started really ramping up my Black Templar army and was looking through a list of crusades and other lore to set up the lore for my army. I saw "The Ghoul Star Crusade" and instantly developed a storyline around a second crusade there. (Using units I have and am working on) It involves a second crusade led by Helbrecht to the Ghoul Star sector to quell the returning threat of Varghul at an unprecedented scale. The new crusade finds old Black Templars in MK 3 armor and an ancient dreadnought from the first crusade that were lost in the warp or potentially the nightmare realm before the first crusade ended. They slipped back to realspace sometime before the second crusade found them and reinforced their efforts.
Upon world hopping and reclaiming lost planets, the second crusade stumbled upon a long-lost and secret forge world of the adeptus mechanicus and notified them of the discovery and reclamation. In return for this extremely valuable service, the adeptus mechanicus issue a crusader class titan to the Black Templars to help further their mission of cleansing the region of xeno filth and as a reward for their valiant efforts.
