Having spent 40 years working in HOLLYWOOD, and having been on location numerous times in the Hawaiian islands, I congratulate you both on a fine presentation...
Of course you left out the one iconic movie that really kicked off HOLLYWOOD's interest in Kauai, and that was the musical SOUTH PACIFIC....
As for FANTASY ISLAND, the main set the Queen Anne style cottage and lagoon can be seen at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, worked on that and Columbia built a small replica on their studio ranch in Burbank.
Frank Sinatra's NONE BUT THE BRAVE filmed extensively on Kauai, as did John Wayne's DONOVAN'S REEF.
Enjoyed your tour of the old BLUE HAWAII Coco Palms hotel and it's famous ELVIS lagoon.
I'm an old man now and sadly HOLLYWOOD is really embracing using Artificial Intelligence to recreate locations we once used to go to. Everything takes place in front of green screens on soundstages instead of the greenery of beautiful Kauai!
Good luck with your travels!
Thank so much for your kind words. We know there are so many more movies than we mentioned, but there just isn't enough time to cover all of the wonderful sites that Kauai has to offer. It would be an honor if we could get an interview with you to reflect on the differences between filming then and now. We would happily meet you in SoCal or Kauai, or wherever your preference may be. We feel this a part of history that needs to be documented so it is not lost. We would love to tell your story. You can email us at travisfamilytravels@gmail.com so we can make arrangements. Mahalo nui loa!
I remember all those places. I was a young boy in the 60's there. I miss Kauai!
They are all still there, but some have lost some of their glory. Kauai is beautiful. We really enjoy it there.
Love the movie clips
We had a lot of fun filming around Coco Palms and making the video.
Great video
Thank you; glad you enjoyed it. It was mysterious and fun. Something to do on a rainy day.
You got some good shots in there
We try our best, but we are not anywhere near the top. We sweat, get rained on, and they call us names, but we're not stopping.
Great video sad to see history destroyed by hurricanes that looked like a fun place to be back in the day.
"Thank you, Thank you very much," Elvis Presley. Yes, it was an amazing place in its prime.
Beautiful area, Thumbs up
Thank you for your kind words. This was our hardest project and we're big ELVIS fans. You feel an aura while hiking through Coco Palms that's indescribable.
Mahalo
Mahalo nui loa for watching.
Watch out dinosaur
You got that right. It really feels like a dinosaur is coming out from the jungle to get you. A little farther down the NaPali Coast, they have King Kong, too.
It's too bad that it's condemned
It is very sad what has happened to Coco Palms. It was pretty much unavoidable with the hurricane, followed by the fire, then the contractors destroyed whatever chance it still had.
