These videos have shown me a different side of elk hunting that I would've never thought existed. It's very sad to see, and I personally believe that chasing them down, following the heard for miles in your vehicle is worse than poaching.
Plenty of reasons people wouldn’t know the zones. You can track an animal from one to the other and not know it. I’ve even heard the officers say things like “ If you shot it at the top of the hill you’re ok. If you shot it down here we got a problem.”
Agree it’s very complicated and confusing. But Montana is huge…you’ve got hours of road time to get a PhD level understanding of the particular unit you’ll be hunting in. Most of these guys should stick to hunting squirrels in the back 40.
Context for the last quote at the end of the video from Joe. "If were close to Warm Springs..." This is a reference to the Montana State Hospital (mental health facility) located in Warm Springs, MT.
Honestly, if you grab the regulation book and just read the information for each area it's not that hard. I hunt different districts and regions every year. I would never plan a hunt without checking the regs just pure laziness and bad tactics.
The last set of guys in the first video knew they had an illegal elk and that's why they didn't stop at the check station they were hoping they would be able to sneak through, but it didn't happen!😂😂😂😂😂
These elk hunters are not hunters they are poachers. I’m never used any group to go hunt. I’ve never used trucks to drive herds any direction. We need to put more rules in place to limit the way these poachers can legally hunt.
In alot of ways yes but now these agencies don't even care about numbers and population anymore just money especially the money that comes into out of state hunters
the only hunter that forgets tags is a hunter that was never going to use the tags. they shouldn't be allowed to hunt if they can't follow very basic rules
Even though the Wardens have a drivers license. They do not have a "no seat belt" licenses in any district or block management area. They receive a "thats bullsheet" comment from a concerned viewer😂
Love the videos, but I think I love even more coming here for the comments section. You can definitely tell the people who, on the regular, ignore or break the law. Deciding to hunt or fish requires a license. Obtaining a license means you're entering into a 'social contract' to follow the rules and regulations for the area you decide to hunt or fish. Ignorance of those regs is no excuse.
It's really not so bad. You just check the regulation book for the area you are hunting and make sure the species/sex your trying to hunt is legal. Definitely don't just assume and go anyway lol most of these mistakes are just pure laziness. The regulation books are free and you can download a .pdf to your phone these days
holding your kid so they dont take the brunt of the gun is crazy. her daughter has to be at least 12 to hunt in MT and if she cant take the brunt of the gun at 12 she shouldnt be hunting
You guys from Montana complain about OOS elk hunters, but I dare say we have it worse in South Dakota with all of the pheasant hunters. I totally understand where the sentiment comes from. Here in SD we have more OOS hunters than resident hunters.
It can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. I don't get special licenses or hunt in areas with significant restrictions. I just make sure I'm on public land and off the road in a district that allows either sex to be shot.
Im from florida so hunting for me is sitting in a tree all day but this chasing the herd in trucks and stuff is that normal? Just doesnt seem like fun to me.
It's demoralizing how often I see "trained" hunters flag their comrades. This is why I have yet to go, a lot of overzealous "jesus take the wheel" type people out there walking around completely braindead.
THIS is the very reason I'm stopped buying a licence in Washington state. GMU hunting is Way to much trouble. I couldn't go hunt in this state. Because you got to have a permit and never know where you are hunting legally. ALL it take is fifteen feet. AND you get a ticket.
This show is for entertainment lol as are the other warden shows that are based around the country, this is one of like 5! People in the general public just enjoy to watch it. Like watching cops.

I feel the wardens try to be as fair as possible. Giving the after a ticket was an excellent teaching point for the kids. Awesome job
that little girl was not shooting 3006 lol
The vast amount of different licenses for this zone and that had me confused. I can see why so many get it wrong.
Yeah, I avoid zones like that. If my general license has a bunch of caveats, then I will not hunt that area.
if youre going to be participating in any sport you need to be aware of the rules. no excuse for them not knowing the zones.

It’s really not. Especially if you have a phone with GPS and can read at a 6th grade level.

that tag system seems super complicated, in Colorado we just have the area you hunt, if its a cow or bull, and if its a private or public land tag.
I gotta say I love Joe my favorite warden on the show

Warden Lesofski sure can fit into a tight pair of Wranglers.

The type of hunters chasing those elk in their vehicles are a poor excuse for sportsmen.
Too many rules in Montana. Good lord
There is no "lord", especially no good one. Too many poachers, not enough regulation.

Elk hunting in Montana's different districts is as confusing as fishing for salmon in Alaska... you need a lawyer next to you to be sure your legal !

135 fine for a illegal elk? Wtf
The 2 hunters that were trespassing! The shooter flagged his buddy with his rifle, terrible muzzle awareness
