    We are about 2000 away from hitting our second 50,000 bonus points and will have around 14,000 remaining points to earn I think. If you don't want to jump through the hoops of the shopping portal, referring a family member gives you 20,000 points which would roll most people over to companion pass. It's also helpful to put your cable/internet & phone bill on this card while you're trying to meet the SUB!

    Finally! Someone who can explain the concept of earning the CP thoroughly enough to be understood! Thank you! I've watched many videos trying to wrap my head around the strategy of earning a CP for the maximum amount of time. Thank you for including the section on how to avoid common mistakes, because now I get it! I'm new to Southwest, opened a card in March with an offer to earn a companion pass after a minimum spend. I'm kinda wishing I would have waited until the end of the year for a different offer so I could have maximized the length of my companion pass. Question, do you think it's better for the statement closing date to be earlier in the month or later in the month as a strategy to have more points posted earlier in the calendar year? I'm not sure how soon points get posted to the account. My closing date is within the first week of each month. Great videos? Keep it up!

    • @thebrandonboydshow
      @thebrandonboydshow  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback. Personally, I wouldn’t get too hung up on the closing date. The change of a week or two here or there won’t move the needle for you. I would just know when your statement closes and plan accordingly. Keep it simple.
      Also, keep in mind you can earn companion pass more than one time. If you don’t get to maximize the time this go around, don’t worry. Just use this knowledge the next time you do it. At the end of the day, any time you get with companion pass is good. We love it and use it frequently.

    I have CP thru 2023. I used the personal card SUB for 100k and a business card for another 60k. So not only did I get CP, I piled up so many points, we will be burning all these points plus some.
    I like flying SW. Only gripe is most of their layover airports, at least for me, don't have lounges. After experiencing the lounge life, a 2 hour layover in Midway, for example, is horrible!
    Looking forward to more of your videos as I continue to be stuck in the hospital bed from the car wreck. Man, I can't wait to get back out and make up for this lost time!

      Great question. Usually yes. However there are some exceptions which makes it tricky to tag this as a 100% certainty to work with CP. for example, if Rocketmiles is running a bonus promo, those additional bonus points may be ineligible to count toward your 125K. There’s a risk factor there that should be considered. Great question though. Thanks for watching!

    Great video, as always... Just to clarify - you need to plan on meeting the minimum spend in one calendar year, preferably on Jan/Feb (so you get the SUB), but you can definitely start charging the card in the previous year, as long as you don't meet the minimum spend, right?

    • @thebrandonboydshow

      Just don’t earn the points on a statement at the end of the year. If you spend before years end, make sure the points post at the beginning of the following year. That’s the key.

    So the best time is to apply it is in Nov/Dec? Also does it mean that ever 24 months you can close your account and reapply to get the same bonus, allowing you to basically get companion pass with some extra spending for 2 years each? And for the bonus 75-100k points, do they allow you to place these points towards the companion pass multiple times?

    • @thebrandonboydshow
      @thebrandonboydshow  2 роки тому

      Great questions. Apologize for the delay. I’ve been off and on a cruise ship. First, yes, Nov/Dec is the best time and they usually have promos at that time of year. The key is not earning points on your statement until Q1. Spend in December and the points will post in January.
      Next, yes, you can cycle through companion pass and earn it every two years.
      Finally, the points don’t roll over or anything. You have to “earn” the 125k in a calendar year. That’s it. They have to be earned in that year. Can’t be from transferring from Chase ultimate rewards. Can’t be from rolling over old points or the next year. All that counts is what you have earned in a calendar year.
      Hope that helps!

    If I get this SW card for the CP in December of 2022 and spend on it for Xmas gifts, how long will the points take to post?
    How early or late to make purchases in December for point to post in January. Want them to post to my account In January , 2023 not in December2022.
    Next questions:
    Is getting this pass a one time thing?
    Like I’ll probably get it by March 2023 and can use it until December 2024.
    What happens after that?
    No more opportunity to get this pass on that same card?
    Seems like too much spending hassle or opening too many cards for 1yr and nine months. You couldn’t get 125,000 points on the card beginning of 2024 to get it again? What’s the point then of keeping that card? And if I close it to apply again, that would affect my credit score in a negative way, which is excellent right now.
    So once you get it it’s not there forever?
    I thought Air Alaska had one but it continued year after year once you qualified. Am I wrong?

    Hello! Great video! I have a question. I currently have the companion pass, through a promotion, and the companion pass ends February 2024. I'm working towards meeting the 135k point requirement to maintain the companion pass status through 2024. I plan to do so by opening a SW business card, which will allow me to meet the 135k requirement by the end of 2023. Since, I'll need to meet the 135k requirement by the end of the 2023 calendar year, will the new companion pass for 2024 last through 2025? If not, what do I need to do to make sure the companion pass can be used in 2024 and 2025? Thanks in advance for your help.

    • @thebrandonboydshow
      @thebrandonboydshow  Рік тому

      Greta question. Companion Pass is good for the remainder of the year in which you earn the points plus the next year. Example, if you earn the pass in November of this year, then you would have the pass for the rest of 2023 and 2024.
      Let me make this suggestion, sign up for a SW card when the promos are elevated in December and try to earn all of your points, including sign up bonus, as early as possible in 2024. That will then get you the pass for all of 2024 and 2025.
      The key is to not have any points post until January 1st 2024. Sign up for card in Decemberish timeframe. Don’t spend on it until January.
      To better help you out, reach back out to me when I update everyone with those signup bonuses. I’ll walk with you through it. I’m the meantime enjoy your promo pass until Feb 2024.

So just to make sure I understood you correctly: i have an offer to sign up for a Business card with 60000 points after spending $3000 and another 60000 after spending $15000 in the next 9 months. So If I obtain the first chunk of 60000 now and then wait till January 2024 to obtain the next chunk of 60000 then this would not add up to the companion pass points? Right? because all the points have to be earned in one calendar year? did I get it right? If this is true then I guess I should let this offer go and wait until close to the end of this year?

    to clarify , companion pass starts the moment you reach 125,000 points correct which means i wouldnt want to reach 125,000 points till Jan, to be able to get the most out of it correct?
    kind regards,

    • @thebrandonboydshow
      @thebrandonboydshow  2 роки тому

      Great question. Here’s the big thing you want to keep in mind: for companion pass, all of your 125k points need to be earned in the same calendar year. Once you do that, companion pass is automatically applied. If you just got you card today, you will need to eat 125k points before the end of this year 2022.
      In the video I recommend not earning points until January as it gives you more time to hit the 125k mark and it also gives you companion pass longer.
      In this case, you already have the card so you are going to have to earn yours now by meeting min spend in order to get your signup bonus. It’s not necessarily the most optimal time to do this, but that’s what you’ll have to do in this scenario. Earn your points in calendar year 2022. Keep in mind you can earn large chicks of points by using the shopping with Southwest portal that gives huge points bonuses for trying different services and products. That may be worth looking in to.

      Assuming you got it through sign up bonuses, keep in mind that you can only get a SUB every 24 months on SW cards. If you got it through the personal card, then you would need to cancel the card an reapply as long as it has been 24 months. Then, just accumulate 125k rapid rewards in a single calendar year. Start adding points to your account in January of 2023. Without knowing all the details it’s hard to give a completely accurate response, but that sounds like what you are asking about, correct?

      That’s okay. Everyone is new at some point. Here’s a quick rundown of what you need to do:
      You need to earn ALL 125k points in a calendar year. Since you’ll be earning the welcome offer on this card this year, you’ll want to earn the remains needed for companion pass this year as well. You can do this through spend, bonus point earning through Southwest shopping portal, or by signing up for a Southwest business card this year and earning a bonus on that. Points don’t roll over year to year for companion pass qualification. Get it done this calendar year 2022. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • @RealFrankyDog

    Brandon, I'm trying to understand how many points I would earn towards companion pass tier via Southwest Business credit card spend on non-travel. It says earn 1 point for every $1 spend on "on all other purchases" which I was hoping would count towards "companion tier". But further down under heading "Unlimited Tier Qualifying Points" it says "Earn 1,500 TQPs toward A-List status for every $10,000 you spend ". Does that mean if I spend $200K annually on the SW business credit card that only 30K points (1,500 * 20) would go towards "a list" or "companion pass"? If that is the case then aside from signup and bonus points on the initial offer then I wouldn't be able to continue in that tier while only spending $200K annually. Thanks for the video and any insight you have into what TQPs mean in this context.

    • @kap20k
      @kap20k Рік тому

      Hi! In terms of your question about the Southwest Business credit card, you are correct that earning points towards the Companion Pass tier solely through non-travel spending might be difficult. While you do earn 1 point for every $1 spent on "on all other purchases," those points are not specifically designated as Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) for the Companion Pass or A-List status. The 1,500 TQP per $10,000 spent only applies to certain categories, as outlined in the terms and conditions on the Southwest Rapid Rewards website. To earn the Companion Pass, you'll need to accumulate 125,000 TQPs, which is a significant amount that would likely require a combination of travel and non-travel spending. However, the Southwest Rapid Rewards program does offer several other ways to earn TQPs, such as through flights, hotel stays, car rentals, and more. Hope this helps clarify things!

If you’re trying to get companion pass with another signup bonus, Close your existing SW card and start the process over. You cannot receive a SW bonus if you already have a card open. Great question. In a nutshell, think about this with SW companion pass: don’t earn big chunks of points for companion pass or earn sign up bonuses until the beginning of the year. Now is not the time to sign up. SW routinely offers great signup offers in the 4th quarter of the year. If possible, wait for that. Earn your points in the first 3-6 mo the of the year, not this time of year.
      If you get the card now then you’d have to spend the $5k now to earn the sign up offer, but it’s not the best time to get companion pass. In short, wait it out. Don’t sign up for the card or earn any points on your statements until Jan- Feb 2023.

      Great question. You don’t need to pile them up to buy CP. You’re not buying CP. all you need to do is earn the 125K in a calendar year. You can use those points while you’re earning as well. I did. The earnings are all that matter. Hope that helps!!!

    Do they take those points away once you claim your companion?

    Can you get points for referring a spouse?

    • @thebrandonboydshow

      100%. Just send the referral link to your spouse. If they get approved, you get rewarded with a referral offer. Makes it easy to earn points when you work together with your spouse.

      I did not receive a card. Just a notification within my account online. Did you at least get that?
