my understanding from people who bought and extracted tubes from these before the war& put in units with pvs14 optics, the performance is pretty comparable to early 2000s aviation tubes. (MX-10160A/omni4 spec)
@@Tillice would make alot of sense, especially considering the whole monocular is already a clone so why not copy the tubes aswell. Isnt it true that for example nnvt is also producing what are essentially clones?
When I was there there was a huge lack of nvgs on the Ukrainian side. My friends that were in the foreign legion weren't able to get anything but some shitty digital monoculars and they didn't encounter Russians with nvgs when they were fighting in Bakhmut or in Kharkov. They mostly killed a bunch of conscripts that were shoved off of trucks and forced to run a couple hundred meters in the open to get to trenches or buildings, though they did get attacked by some Wagner but didn't notice any nvgs on them either.
It's very random, some very good SF unit like 45th VDV, over there everybody get one, some of the convicts unit or mobilased dudes, might not even know that such device exists, both of those coming from VDV..
No, we give them usually depending on what you're doing or your regiment. Obviously every SF unit and motorized guards brigades will have these Just not logistical, or "generic" Mechanized infantry (with exceptions) Reason being it's easier to have the more motivated dudes who know what their doing go out at night in small teams in comparison, where most you'd do during the day is sit in the back as a dismount. I got a 2016 1pn138 Gen3. With katod epm62-g-s. I was surprised how good it actually performs in very low light. The tube got more scintillation than the omni 8 wp, but overall the sharpness is even better with the Katod tube. One issue is the low contrast in foliage.. Overall its a very good device... Never expected it to be that good
"Out spacing" the helmet allows for better protection against shrapnel, and other blunt like impacts (drone drops nowadays)it s the same principle of motorcycle helmets although they will use styrophoam and mips(nowadays) just having the most ultra shell material is not enough, look at a top tier Arai helmet to understand the principle, Schubert is the same some of the racing helmets use thinner material but they have to make them fit tighter on the skull
Gen 3 isn't really a performance standard, if the tube is made with Gallium Arsenide it is Gen 3. Granted, most Ekrans are Gen 2+, but it could be an NNVT tube.
The FW Solutions mini rail adapter for the Wilcox mount is the way to do it. Extremely easy to stow and deploy. Also not too difficult to swap eyes too. Also the 3DiiP mini rail Jarm is very very good solution too.
In terms of performance I feel like it's closer to a gen 2+ tube rather than western gen 3. It may have the composition of a gen 3 tube but the performance in terms of usable gain is lack luster. Compared to German harder digital tubes it's not great. But on the other hand it's still a big upgrade in glass and general performance than older Russian devices which is important to remember.
That looks like a very noisy tube. I've been curious about Russian gen 3 stuff but have never seen anything about it outside of the Katod product catalog. Thanks for sharing

Hey Valgear. I just realised that I don’t see much western night combat video tutorials. Pidors have plenty, all we have is skinny jeans dudes running and gunning against cardboard. Obviously I defer to people who actually use it, but as I understand it, pure thermals are not great for passive use. They give almost no sense of depth perception, so when walking or driving using them is fairly dangerous. There’s the upcoming next-gen US night vision, which uses a night vision view overlaid with thermal outlines using Augmented Reality. I doubt you’d see them provided to Ukraine though, unfortunately, at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars a piece.
So fascinating to see what the Russians are using. Someone needs to train your co- worker on light discipline with his IR laser in the sky like that, it will attract all the attention for miles. Slava Ukraini!
IR lassoing is never used when theres an OPFOR with NVG capability. Unless you are Chechen and want to use all the tacticool stuff the head goat effrr got you.
It probably depends on a unit by unit bases. VDV or Navel infantry units seem to be generally the most well equipped with NVG/Thermal while Storm Z/V units and others have less and or are more relying on personal purchases/volunteers donations. Though I believe it also depends on the squad level/purpose such as if the squad is basically a assault squad who’s sole purpose is to try to take ground though realistically is just sent to get UA forces to expose their positions/force structure, thus having a very short life expectancy if compared to the more experienced/trained/career military units.
What about the Ukrainian night vision.... The Russian are providing their army with night vision..... So what about the Ukrainian.....Is it a US made or German made.... So they provide u or not....??? According to me having something to see at night is better than walking blindly and stepping into a land mines.....
