Denim is also a neutral, and I absolutely love it, except the very bleached pale denim wash. It's always blue for me, not black or grey, and white jeans for summer

Love this look at color! Today when I got dressed I decided to wear my olive green flowy shorts and stood at my closet trying to decide on a top. I pulled out a sleeveless fitted linen top that I made out of a green linen…think unripened pear color. The saturation level is equivalent and when I put the top on I was pleasantly surprised by how well the colors worked together. Cognac cross body bag and sandals and I’m good to go. Thanks for the encouragement!

I never would of thought of black and red being not modern and I am sure I wear that combination. Love red and pink. Also didn't know about triple scoop.

Black and red is SO eighties: I confirm this as one who was in her late 20s/early 30s then. Ooh did I feel the bee's knees in this colour combination! But 40 years down the line: nonono

I love dusty pink (not pastel or baby pink!). It's a beautiful neutral, soft and feminine and often underrated or forgotten. It goes well with white, black, navy, denim, grey

Can you talk about textures in a future video please Nada? I prefer limiting the number of textures so avoid my outfit looking too busy, especially since I'm petite and I like simplicity.

A lot of women, especially blondes, don't realise that beige and camel wash them out, also buttery yellow, very light grey, very light pastels, etc.
When I buy a patterned blouse or dress, I always look in the mirror scrunching up my eyes, this helps me see which is the dominant colour, is it the background colour or the pattern colour, is it white or a darker colour? Is the pattern too big?
Great tip about leopard print, there are many variations, different browns, black or no black, lots of yellow or no yello, two colours or more, etc. it can be tricky to sift the cheap-looking leopard print from the flattering classy one. Either way, it is a pattern, so I wear it in very small doses, e.g. a skinny scarf, and preferably a smaller print as I'm petite.

Hi Nada, great video! As you’ve probably figured out by now, I love and feel my best in bright clear colours, especially in winter - it’s that dopamine hit when the weather is awful. In summer I probably tend towards brights with a bit more white. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise in an area I love. I definitely don’t feel like myself without some colour!

I think this is the best video I've ever seen on the use of color in fashion; very thorough and easy to understand. Brava!
Re: color palettes: I have difficulty with the concept of a color palette. I LOVE color (I find brights are my happy place and work best with my coloring), so to limit myself to two or three colors feels austere. I have been working on gathering my basics for a few years and over time, my wardrobe has gotten more neutral..so much so that I bought two bright cashmere sweaters this winter because I felt color starved! In a nod to having a. color palette, I have been collecting more tops (short sleeve, long sleeve, sweater, button down, etc) in one of my best colors (cobalt) but I desire the day I can afford to have all my neutral basics AND all the fun colors I want in my wardrobe!

Aqua is a colour that is rarely mentioned, but I love it and wore it a lot when I lived in Italy. I'm now a Londoner and struggle to pair my lovely aqua top to create an outfit, in the end I opted for charcoal grey and black. Last year I bought a great velvet suit from Mango in khaki, not a colour I would normally go for as I prefer taupe, but they only had it in khaki. I wear it with a chic beige pussybow blouse and on cooler days I add a medium grey jumper/sweater. I have matching suede khaki ankle boots that fit under the trousers for a seamless, elongated look. I am more of a neutral person but I wear neckties/scarves with a pop of colour. I love the red & blue pairing and all blues, including denim.
This year I bought a red dress! In the H&M sale for just £11, great quality and 100% heavy cotton, it's a wrap dress but only the skirt wraps, the top looks like a t-shirt and the scoop and sleeves are just perfect, it's a lighter red (but not orange) and goes with everything, blue, denim, grey, camel, white, it was a great buy for someone who never buys things in the sale, also a confident choice to cheer me up and hold my head high during a stressful period in my life.

I struggle with tonal outfits. I feel like the undertones jump out so much and i just can’t do it. What looks sage is suddenly olive when put next to another sage piece. How do you balance undertones in a tonal outfit, or does it really not look as bad as I think it does?

    • @bboyd9727
      @bboyd9727 Місяць тому

I sometimes find that matching the depth of the color saturation helps the different shades combine better; so too, does a scarf that has both colors in it- worn on your purse or as your belt or neck. Also, If you add a third complementary (?) color, say rose or peach to your sage & olive, that might help too.

Yes, some navy shaded are different. Even my light gray items are different ( one cool and one warm - but both almost identical. I find that wearing navy with my two slightly different grays makes them appear the same.

This is one of your best videos Nada, so much useful information!
I just cant do the red & white combo without feeling like I'm on my way to the annual Valentines Day event at my kids' school. It feels too costumy for me. Someone suggested i add black to the combo as a 3rd colour. I think that could work a bit better, depending on which pieces, to avoid the Santa look. What is your opinion on that seeing as white, black and red are all very bold colours. Do you think it could look over the top?
Thank you for a great video as always. I have learned so much from you. Greetings from South Africa ❤

@@musingsofamuslimah2018 thank you so much for this sweet comment. I’m so glad you found it helpful! I love the idea of adding a third color.
