  • The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a protracted armed conflict that began in the mid-20th century over the control of Palestine. The conflict includes a low-intensity insurgency and intermittent periods of more intense violence, such as the second Intifada. The conflict is rooted in multiple causes, including competing nationalist claims to the land of Palestine, religious differences, the legacy of the Holocaust, and the social and economic conditions of both groups.
The conflict has its roots in the late 19th century, when Zionist Jews began to immigrate to Palestine in order to establish a Jewish homeland. This immigration led to tensions with the Arab population, which was the majority at the time. These tensions were exacerbated by the British Mandate of Palestine, which was established after World War I. The British Mandate was intended to be a temporary arrangement until the Palestinians and Jews could reach an agreement on the status of Palestine. However, no such agreement was reached, and the British Mandate ended in 1948 with the establishment of the State of Israel.
