    I practice Kali and Muay Thai and hope to practice Silat soon too. Once I went to south London to visit a Ki master called Andy McGill. He practiced Karate, Kendo and Aikido. He was really nice too, very pleasant but like this master Abdul Rahman, Andy was nobody's fool. The estate Andy lived on contained a lot of mix races too and unfortunately they did not recieve the welcome from the English race they should have. Andy was a character partly because of the martial arts, a character who embraced everyone. During the heavy snowfall Andy goes to the local Mace supermarket and there's a really long queue to get bread as all the other shops were unable to have their bread delivered. The Pakistani Mace shop owner comes out in person with 2 bags of bread and says "This is for you Andy. You come to shop in my store even when it doesn't snow". I thought that was nice sentiment. I've seen other videos of master Rahman too, he is very interesting and mentions some aspects of Silat that you won't hear in other videos. He dresses in a green suit in the other videos. Check them out if you can find them. Thanks uploader.

    It's really hard to find the right words sometimes to express one's gratitude, so I'll simply say 'Thank you'. Thank you to both Master Glenn Delikan for having such great insight to produce this extraordinary documentary and also to Master Nicholas Blanchette aka Abdul Rahman for his incredible openness and humility. This documentary is the first step on the path to guide you towards understanding the true essence of martial arts.

    i am indonesian and i can confirm the mythical and spiritual belief lies within silat, many learned silat as martial art, but the deeper part which is involved spiritual form arent passed down easily, the traditional "keris" blade is also a sacred items filled with spiritual being and many requires routine rituals, but kids and adults right know dont really put interest as the older and previous generation did, so if want to meet a spiritual silat practitioner or master will be hard since they tend to hide their spiritual ability and passed it down secretly, some dont even passed it down to his/her children, thats the fact of silat

      That mystical power, i think people dnt need it anymore, not all people have to learn it bcause we are in modern era we have gun and other weapon and people will say that this is black magic or something bcause they dnt know about this mystical power, the true is this thing is real but you dnt have to learn it, just practice silat like a normal, maaf susah nak terang pasal english tak berapa ok☺️

    You said "Cimande is perhaps the most well known, oldest and most influential" that is still debatable, My Friend. for the west region of Indonesia, maybe it is very much influential, but that's just it. from central Java to east, the style are much different. it's kind of simpler with less "kembangan" as far as I know.

    The thing about east-asian martial arts is it’s connected with their religions . I think muslim nations there developed silat and connected it with islam the same way.
    (Not really islamic , but the general image taken from Islam)
    But I think my brother here took it far far away , may Allah guide him to the straight path.

      Nah...silat exist before islam, but the islamic spreader succeded in assimilating islamic value into silat. Like the useness of silat for self defence,in ancient time silat is use only for combat or war manly use by tribal society. But islam civilizeing silat,by uniting its follower and turn this art as art of peace.

    Stop the mystery BS. Silat Masters are not hard to find and it’s not something intimately connected with Islam. It’s the term for fighting in Majapahit Empire. Fighting style common from Malaysia all the way up to the Philippines where it is called Arnis/ Kali and likely originated in India.

      don't cook up your own bullshit about Silat. Silat is born and originated in the Malay achpelago. It's not from india. I don't see any resemblance between Silat and indian martial arts at all. Silat is a much more refined art of offense and defense than indian martial arts; it's the art of assasin. Silat for weapons but for hands this form of Silat looks useless in a real fight or against a grappler. Sorry most of these soft arts have been exposed. Not saying it does not work, but sparring the way they were sparring is not were realistic. At least hit with pads or hit half speed for real. Tip tapping proves nothing that is why when you spar against another style you get beat up.

    • @karleduard7725
      @karleduard7725 5 років тому +2

      Maybe his style of Silat don't have a lot of "grappling" but you ever seen the locks and strangles of the Silat??? That guys don't play, they don't make move to submit you, is all full to the break of the bone or muscle. When you made an armbar, they twist and lock your toes and makes you to turn around and feel a lot of pain, also they stretch your arms to break them with their knees or foot's. Try to made a triangle and they gonna fight with a hidden knife before you realize it. A lot of this techniques are forbidden in the sports combat for logical reasons.

      Religion and spirituality are often used synonymously and one is not the same as the other.
      Religion is a means to outwardly exercise, often ceremoniously, one's Spiritual understandings of our Relationship with our Creator.
