I used to clean houses for extra money. One lady made me clean the grout (the lines in the tiles) with an electric toothbrush. Her entire 4 bedroom home had that tile. I have horror stories of this lady.
Just for your information, you don't need a specialized steam cleaner to clean the grout between the tiles, you can do it with soapy water, a brush, gentle scrubbing, and a lot of time. You can do it in small sections each day if you don't have much time. Just use a plastic or hair brush because a metal brush would damage the grout.
@@galacticosno23 if you do one tile a day and you wear your shoes inside, yea. Even then, it'd still be cleaner than just leaving the dirt to build up.
Everytone freaking out about the tiles: You can get all different colours of grout, those tiles had white grout between them, but some have darker grey or black grout. So not all tiles with black lines are filthy like those were

As a jeweler, watching the jewellery cleaning videos makes me highly uncomfortable because my prof in Goldsmithing warned us about holding on to things while the ultrasonic is running because it can cause arthritis in your hands. You are supposed to just place it in a strainer.
If it really causes arthritis, wich I am not sure that’s true, then it’s probably the amount of times you are subjected to those vibrations. Those videos are probably like 1% of the actual products they clean and they probably just put the jewelry in the strainer when the camera is not rolling because it’s highly inefficient to keep standing at a machine that does the work all alone in the mean time you could be doing other stuff.
@@Manie230 It can potentially cause arthritis over time in the same way that getting one x-ray won't give you cancer but being subjected to constant radiation will. Arthritis is more common for people/ apprentices who's main job is polishing and cleaning. As for holding the jewellery I can understand the temptation to hold it vs putting it in the mesh basket because this is the final cleaning step after polishing so that it removes all the polishing compound from every nook and cranny. After all the sanding and polishing that's done you'd hesitate to put it directly in the basket because the vibrations of the ultrasonic cleaner can cause the jewellery to rattle in the cage and cause fine scratches. My classmates and I figured out a better way though for things like pendants that you can string, simply string a wire through and dangle it into the fluid but have it held up by the edges of the machine. Turn it on and leave it, turn it off and remove it. For other non stringing objects we've experimented with plastic mesh strainers that's much gentler on the projects. We jewellers can be unintentionally subjecting ourselves to a lot of harmful effects and substances without us even knowing because either you learn as an apprentice from a much older jeweler who's technically not up to date on current knowledge and studies or you learn through a school which is up to date. There's a process for casting called Investment mold making which involves a super fine silica powder. When I was in school our teachers were very, very strict about safety precautions and personal safety equipment when we worked with investment because it can cause lung cancer and other cancers. Apparently a lot of jewellers had lung cancer in the past and only recently have we figured out why but not all jewellers are aware of this new information and they'll teach their apprentices to do things as they've always done.
@@amandasnider2644 thank you for that in-depth knowledge. I think learning a job from a very old instructor is probably a thing in many jobs. Often those instructors don’t go to advanced training wich would bring them up to date with the newest stuff. And then you learn two things the practical old school stuff and the new way better methods.
For anyone freaked out by how dirty the jewelry is, more often than not, the jewelry isn't even remotely as dirty as it's made out to be, it's only "dirty" because it's loaded with polishing or buffing compounds after being polished and/or buffed, then it gets ultrasonically cleaned and then usually blasted with a tiny steam cleaner that removes the cleaning solutions.
I just had a thought. What if you hired all of these people to clean all of your stuff that they’re supposed to. And maybe even more people and just watch how your house gets transformed.
Sometimes it is, especially if your tile itself is a darker color, lighter grout would probably not go as well. However on a floor this color, it was most likely dirt.
