Thank you for visiting my country. Never ever have I dreamt of my favourite photographer heading to Mongolia. It will be very DRY cold there. Hope you'll have an amazing experience. And photos of course.
My wife has just retired as a teacher and she went to Mongolia to teach English and help with some charity work so she spent a lot of time with locals and their families, EVERYONE she met were really lovely, extremely helpful and friendly, I can’t wait for my chance to visit.
Have you encounter a photographer from your country?
Your country is incredible: the landscapes, wildlife, food and most of all, the people 🙏
Look at you walking through a massive airport with loads of people and talking to the camera! Go you! 🙂👍
@@zaneraza4044Tom notoriously hates talking with people around. It's actually a major step for him.
@@zaneraza4044 @mariabengtsson6866 is referring to Thomas's fear of filming around people. Oh, I guess I'll say welcome to the channel?
@@zaneraza4044I guess that’s one way to tell everyone you haven’t watched many of his videos without actually saying you haven’t watched many of his videos. 🙄
I guess the daily vlog did the ice breaking job for Tom 😂❤
Tom's advice about compressing down is a myth. As long as the goose or duck down jacket/sleeping bag is clean, then it can be compressed for months without a problem. A good quality goose down product can even be tightly compressed into a rock-hard ball for years without the down itself losing any loft. That is a fact.
You are the only UA-camr that can make a boring-ass journey on a plane interesting and fun. Great stuff! Hope you are having a great time.
Haha. It was boring. Thank you.
Hey Thomas, this is already an interesting excursion to watch. You're not only an excellent photographer, but you are also an excellent story teller. My husband and I love your videos. We are looking forward to your next video in this series.
Many thanks. I hope you enjoy the series.
I’m so excited for this series of videos, Mongolia is one of my bucket list locations.
I don’t know why I am watching this with a smile on my face. I feel like I’m living that adventure with you. Can’t wait for the next video !
I never considered Mongolia as a travel destination, but I am really looking forward to the next instalment. What a fabulous adventure this will be 🤩
You should, it wonderful.
Thanks Thomas for taking the viewer with you ! A fantastic adventure! Looking forward to the next one.
Ps nice music with the video
The start of an adventure! I can’t wait to see more. Thanks for taking me along!
Looking forward to the next episode
Excited for the rest of this! Feels like a right mission/adventure already!
Wow, what epic adventure. Look forward to watching the next video with snow leopards.
Need. More. Heaton! Eagerly anticipating the video about trying to shoot snow leopards! Love your videos. :)
Wow, what an amazing trip! Look forward to following along. 🙂
Man that’s was all kinds of epic !! Looks like some insane amount of organisation too and glad it all went to plan!! Will be interesting to see how the batteries hold up in that cold weather
Yes it was! Lots of logistics.
Wow Tom the trip of a lifetime
Hi mate , as a Mongolian wish you all the best in our beautiful country. Cant wait for the next videos. Be calm its only snow leopard 😊
Would be really interesting to see all the planning and logistics that go into a trip like that. You make it look so effortless!
love the travel / behind the scenes luggage anxiety... it's all so real!!
Thomas, for me this was a wonderful video. In my younger days, I had to travel to many remote areas of the world to provide engineering assistance. Multiple flights, multiple hotels, and long drives can be very tough. You handle the travel quite well, better than many. Believe me, bag paranoia is quite real!
Congrats on the half million subs! With videos like this, you’re not far from one million! Keep up the amazing work, Thomas! Thanks for sharing these incredible moments!
Another 10 years and we might get there 🎉
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Something tells me it’s going to be well before that 😀
I can't wait for the next episode !!!!, thank You for sharing
This is a great example that although getting to see finished images is a treat, your videos easily stand on their own. What a cool journey. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks, Heath. Will we be seeing any vids from Japan?
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto you will indeed.
As a sports photographer, I have felt that anxiety on every flight i've been on for the last decade...
Wow! I can hardly wait to see what you get!
I am sooooo excited for next video :) I really hope you find loads of snow leopards
I have never been stopped for carry on gear, although I have never had to travel with a big prime. The trick is to have a good sized personal item that holds a fair amount of gear, but does not look bulky. My typical travel photography kit all fits in the personal item, so if forced to - I can check the roller and still keep my camera gear on me. Gear includes: 100-400, 24-70, 16-35, main body, backup body, point and shoot, and usually a prime also.
Great start to the trip, Tom! Looking forward to the continuation from the Altai Mountains!
Dear Thomas, you made me remember the snow leopard scene from the Walter Mitty movie. Good luck with finding the Ghost Cat. 🎉
cannot wait to watch your progress!
What an adventure! Good luck. Can't wait for the next video.
Mate buzzing to see the adventures of Mongolia! 🇲🇳
Great start to hopefully another fantastic series and you’re not alone about airport stress, I’m sure there are many of us like you that go through the same turmoil when travelling. Enjoyed the newsletter too and looking forward to next weeks video
Really cool trip. I love the lounge in the Istanbul airport.
The Altai is amazing! I spent 3 weeks there doing multi-day kayak trips in 2004. We paddled the Katun, Argut and Chyua rivers. The people were some of the friendliest I've ever met. Looking forward to the series!
Wow, that sounds incredible. I'd love to revisit in summer.
You need to use vacuum bags when you travel with such clothes, you will gain so much space
Unbelievable adventure! Go, Thomas! Can’t believe the travel hours, and yet you are cheerful and energetic! Looking forward to your next video❤❤❤
.God yes! I had to take a nap after just watching this!
have a great time
Happy to be watching your videos again. I’ve been a long time follower and used to watch all of your videos. Took a two year hiatus after I started having kids, but watching more of your videos and love that you’re still making content
Super video - I empathise completely about the stress of carrying photo gear on flights. I'm glad you had no problems.
Compressing down isn't a problem, and certainly not for a couple of days. Down do much better with compression than most synthetic fill.
This is going to be a fascinating series. Thoroughly enjoyed episode 1. Can’t wait for next week!!
This looks like it's going to be an awesome trip! Can't wait of the next video!
Whoa, I'm glad you did that journey as it means I didn't have to. What a trek. Looking forward to your adventures next week.
Love Mongolia, what a place I really want to go back!
that lens is so big, you cud probs photo Mongolia from your front door '')
Goose down(sp) I believe is not the same as real eider down. I still have a Swiss made bag bought over 50 years ago, now made into a great odd shaped blanket. No pin feathers period. Super compensable. Well worth the cost . Looking forward to some great video's from your trip. Stay safe.
LOVED the view of the mountains from the plane. Also, the light looks so pure, empty and clean. Having a great trip, thanks, lol. Looking forward..........
Fun stuff. I was there in 1990 during the spring. An adventure I will never forget.
Argh! i was hooked from the get go couldnt wait to see the Landscape and snow leopards then you left me hanging Lol another great video , and a few laughs thrown in . enjoy your trip
Just saw Mongolia on a Netflix production and fell in love with the landscapes .... SO can't wait to see next weeks episode ! Have fun and enjoy the wonders of Nature ! :-)
Great video, looks like it's going to be a fun series.
Great travel video Tom. Top tip. Check if your phone has esim. Can set up access in advance and no need to go shopping.
Can’t wait for the next video 🙂
Great video Thomas!
Let the adventure begin! Good luck Thomas.
What a trip of a lifetime. Looking forward to the next instalment.
from Portugal I wish you a fantastic stay and good photos and videos
living the dream ... Awesome
Fantastic video, glad you included the travelling and the walk around. Looking forward to the next one. The newsletter was fantastic.
Let the Mongolia adventure begin, it is very exciting. 🌎🧿☕️
It is a great country with friendly people, i went to the Altai mountains in the west to see the Eagle Festival, wow that was something special and what a way to remember my 70th birthday
Great Video Thomas, the trip to Spain has made huge changes to your presentation style and content! thanks for sharing
Delica ....... no airport stress then :-) Kind regards, Guy.
FYI for anyone traveling with lithium batteries.
Batteries (carried as spares) Spare batteries for portable electronic devices containing lithium ion batteries exceeding a Watt-hour rating of 100 Wh but not exceeding 160 Wh when carried for personal use. No more than two individually protected spare batteries per person may be carried.
Great Vid Tom and looks like a lot of fun. Even with the stressful check ins.
Best wishes for the rest of your tour. You've paid the price in getting there. Hopefully your return journey will be filled with happiness and satisfaction.
Thank you very much for visiting Mongolia. Please come again. My country is a land of nine jewels
Wow a video focused on searching for snow leopards would be an absolute dream. I’m currently reading the snow leopard by peter matthiessen and funnily enough the secret life of walter mitty and that snow leopard scene specifically was one of my biggest inspirations for jumping into photography. Safe travels mate
Wowser - And now for something completely different - what an adventure! Looking fwd to the next instalment - good luck!
I can absolutely relate to how stressful travel with kit is. I'm lucky that Lufthansa/Brussels with whom I travel 90% of the time don't generally weigh camera gear, and the people at checkin seem to understand you are carrying expensive gear and be more tolerant with oversize and so on.
Not what happened at Heathrow UK! Polite sure! This way Sir! Translated to watch, what we say and do to you! Never again via UK.
You are by far my favorite landscape photographer! Thank you for the content Thomas!
Wow, thanks! That means a lot with so many great names out there.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto well now that you mention it Gavin from fototripper might be a little better 😂😂😉…. Not really but we can let him believe what he wants!
Good luck!
Istanbul airport is incredible. I spent 2 nights in Istanbul on a stopover a few years ago. Incredible city
think I'll stick to taking photos of the Snow Leopards at Marwell zoo 😀
You somehow made travelling from the UK to the Altai appear less fraught (camera baggage notwithstanding) than my usual cross-country flights within Canada. That's dangerous information for someone slightly obsessed with Central Asia to have, Thomas... 🙃
Haha. The journey was seamless.
This video was fantastic. I can't wait to follow along with the rest of your trip. Thanks!
Thanks, Tom. That was actually really enjoyable, and entertaining. Just need some drone shots of you in the airport terminal - the place is big enough. What could possibly go wrong?
Hahahaha
Awesome, Tom. Looking forward to it. Good luck! Cheers!
Thomas, surprised you didn't drive there!
Always loved your work, but seeing what you 'have to pack' just to make a video, I'm glad I got over my gear fear at a young age, haha. That handheld gopro camera is all you need + yeah, maybe a lapel.
What a start to an amazing adventure! I can't wait for next week's upload to see how you get on. Good luck!
Snow leopard is a bucket list shot, I'm jealous
Loved Mongolia - spent over 12 months working there, a correction though it is not Chinngis Khan Square it is Sükhbaatar Square in UB, easy mistake to make I suppose, he does make a formidable appearance overlooking the square but its named after the bloke on the horse in the middle. Anyway, they had ice scupltures of the Beatles when I was there - absolutely brilliantly done. Loved my time there and met some wonderful and friendly people. The place should be on everyones bucket list.
What an adventure, wish you luck. I can't wait to see what happens.
Wow!!!! That is a trip I can only ever dream about so thank you for sharing the experience with us all. Top man!!!!😀
I live only 2000km away from Mongolia, I've always dreamed of going, never been yet so your trip will be inspiring for me! Can't wait to see the rest of it!
Feliz estancia en Mongolia, gracias por compartir tu aventura
well, the ice slide was interesting.
tip: put on your biggest heaviest jacket and an extra layer before boarding ! They will not weigh you, no matter how much you´re wearing, just take it off as soon as you board the plane... And if your bags get lost, you won´t freeze to death
Thanks Thomas. I'm too old for this kind of travels and with your videos I can dream a bit.
Hi Tom, Hope you have a fantastic time, looking forward to seeing the video next week. I have seen and walked past leopards in South Africa so I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. Have Fun
That was a fun video to watch. Great editing and can't wait for the next one! Safe travels!
Wow what a wonderful trip to go on. Looking forward to viewing your images...stay warm..Best wishes.
Pretty excited to see next weeks video!
I felt stressed watching your stress. Travelling really does me in. Plus I’m a bit of an insomniac. I envy people who can sleep anywhere, anytime etc. 👍📸
Great video so far!!!
What a cliff hanger to end this video can`t wait to see next week`s episode What an exciting journey!!
Congratulations! Looks like a spectacular opportunity.
Great video! Thx!
