I find Henry VII to be infinitely more compelling than Henry VIII. Henry VIII was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. A petulant, spoiled borderline-psychopath. Henry VII never knew a minute's peace growing up. He took the throne against all odds. He deserves a lot more recognition than his son, IMO.
Gosh Nathan that is so interesting a reputation once acquired is so hard to ditch. But you're right Henry VII splashed the cash as well as grasped it, and when you think of it his son was far more of an avaricious robber, he grabbed it all, nothing was sacred, especially not the monasteries, and woe betide anyone who built himself a nice palace, Henry would nick it! Ha, and the grandaughter was no better she positively gloated when anyone robbed and slaughtered at sea and brought her back some treasure. Perhaps it's just the economic times, cash was in short supply in the 16th and we can surely all relate to that now.
I've always thought he deserves more recognition.
