@@roberthasleder1526 that would make sense, they both sounded good anyway, it's not till you compare them that you might get discontent with the one or other

Hi Adam, great to hear from another happy Sobell owner. I tried many pickups over the years and settled on soundboard transducers like K&K, Schatten, Dazu in all my instruments. The K&K-pickup in the Sobell is a Pure Mini like that: www.thomann.de/de/kk_trinity_pro_mini_system.htm?glp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwvOHzBRBoEiwA48i6AkKy4pHVaelmfxSBxd5gAMrAMq60VOHT2HEm32sVWgpOg7LmlWnqDRoCRXcQAvD_BwE I fixed it with superglue inside the cittern exactly under the bridge in three different positions: under the outer edges of the bridge and in the middle. I did many installations on guitars and on my 8-string flattop bouzouki, so there is an amount of experience about what the K&K can sound like. Because the Cittern is so reverberant and there is no bridge plate inside the cittern, I opted for some modification when installing: Before installing I cut three shims of very thin wood, glued the pickups to the shims and then installed the pickup elements where noted above. That resulted in a balanced and not to boomy sound. Especially the low D-string can be hard to tame on stage if the pickup system is too reverberant. The mic is a DPA 4061 lo sense. But a less expensive K&K trinity mic like viewed in the link above is also great. And you will need dedicated blender for sending phantom power to the internal mic. The mic is attached with velcro at the edge of the sound hole right under the middle string pair pointing to the neck so you can see the capsule sitting there. I can provide detailed pics if needed. Hi Robert, Thank you for all this helpful info: A couple more questions: How did you wire the DPA 4061 microdot cable to the endpin jack and achieve the required phantom power. Did you somehow use the power supply/XLR input that comes with the mic. Thanks!
@@Adam-de2rq Hi Adam, you will not use the XLR connector or micro-dot but cut the cable where needed and solder it to the stereo jack of your pickup. The DPA cable houses two very thin cables that you will solder to ground and ring of the stereo jack. Or you give it to an experienced technician or luthier and let him do the job.
Hello Robert, Thank you for posting this demo. I too have a five course cittern made for me by Stefan in the mid 1980s. I was searching for pick-up options and was amazed to find such a specific video! Can you tell me which model of Kand K pick-up you are using. I have a DPA 1061 and would like to know how and where you placed it inside the instrument and how you routed the wiring for both the pick-up and the K and K. I like the sound with the additional Newman mic. Such beautiful instruments. Mine has served me well all these years.
Far greater stretch than a tenor banjo. If you put a capo on it up at the 5th/7th… then you can play melody more reasonably. It’s a counter point / backing / vocal accompaniment instrument. Sobell’s are generally excellent capo’d up too though…

What's the stretch like for melody playing. I bought a Irish tenor banjo but found the stretch too much.
