    Thank you so much for being completely transparent when it comes to sponsors, paid reviews, etc. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to pass on any chance for income, especially in such a limited market as boardgaming. It's comforting to know that integrity is still a thing!

    I love that you did an update, it's interesting to find out more about how gaming tables actually fit into everyday life. I love the look of the new Bristol table, most of the other tables I've seen before are a very different style.
    Now I just need those winning lottery numbers...
    (No shade to Geek & Son, just the ongoing reality of my personal circumstances.)

    My table from Geeknson plugs into the mains because it's central bed is powered by two motors to raise and lower it and that is definitely the coolest thing I've ever, ever owned...

    Completely with you about the table. I backed the Megan table and its my best (and admittedly most expensive) piece of furniture by a distance. Since being stuck at home i now work at the table and always enjoy the knowledge that just below the laptop, monitor, note books and spreadsheets theres a setup game just waiting for my return...

    What is the length and width of your recessed playing area? Also, did you ever wish it was wider? I'm looking at the 110x175cm table on Kickstarter and I'm not sure if the width will accommodate my larger games like Barrage, A Feast for Odin, and Agricola. I always heard that the ideal playing surface is 3x5', which this table without the topper is not.

    That’s an AMAZING product that was not in my radar. Taking a look at their KS right now, no idea if it fits my space, price point, etc. but good quick video and you are helping manufacturer clearly by bringing this product to attention of new people.

    I just wanted to share how I achieved a very similar effect with a few things in my home (I live too far away to buy this table).
    My standard size 150cm x 90cm dining table that can fit 4 - 8 people.
    A rollable table mat from Boardgame Tables (about $100SGD on amazon, high quality feeling, easy to store, easy to clean, easy to replace). Measures 152cm x 91cm.
    6x Kemimoto clamp type cupholders (about $20SGD each)
    A couple of folding stools to be used as a side table when needed (furniture that I already had)

    • @RadishTheFool
      @RadishTheFool 3 роки тому

      That doesn't allow you to keep a game set up while using the table for other things though.

    • @moltenbullet
      @moltenbullet 3 роки тому

      @@RadishTheFool true enough. But that's the only downside for something that costs several thousand dollars less.
      A photo of the table, picking up the mat and placing it elsewhere, or just having dinner at the coffee table instead overcomes that problem to some degree.

    I live in South America, you don't know how much I wish I could get tables like this, I'd pay their prices if they were built here, of course shipping that and then paying taxes on them (which are over 60%) is just too much. But they do look lovely.

      That's a bummer but if you ever get into learning woodworking with youtube vids like I did (and have the time), you can absolutely build one yourself. There are quite a few videos demonstrating how you build a gaming table. And it's enormously satisfying!

    • @hpjk772
      @hpjk772 3 роки тому +1

    AND that storage cube does fit in a slot of KALLAX shelf for when you want it out of the way. Granted it is very snug and you have to push a bit to get it in and you have less room for games… but it’s worth it! 😅

      I have a ridiculously long table that was bought in IKEA's bargain corner about 20 years ago - it's 2.2m * 1m...without either of it's extra leaves in it! I use it as a combination of desk, craft table and gaming table at the moment. I also have a separate dining table in the kitchen, also from IKEA, it also has leaves, not that I ever need them as it's just me, two kids and the cats.

  • @B0rghalRantipole

    One thing that stops me from pursuing a table like this is that I keep thinking: 1) Doesn't it get annoying that you always have to reach further than you normally would? (i.e. on a normal table you'd have your player board right in front of you as close as you like, instead of at least 10cm away and 10cm down). 2) Doesn't it hurt after a while to have your arms resting on such a narrow piece of wood?
    3) it fits significantly less than a regular table of the same footprint, therefore is only usable for games that don't take up too mcuh space (e.g. incompatible with Scythe because of the table width required for even the normal boards).
    Maybe this was already covered in the previous video, I've seen it but I don't remember. Sadly I don't know anyone with a table like this to try it out in person.

    Regarding the water spill...Imagine setting up your copy of the OOP wiz war from FFG to admire it and forgetting about it to have your significant other accidentally spill her bong water on the table.
    While this is a pretty fringe example...all that air drying and board game surgery (I say that but luckily it was only some chits lol) had made me home make a table riser (it's mdf, 2 1x1 boards from home depot, and a felt fabric). Definitely worth at least making some kind of modification to the standard kitchen table if you're really into board games. Why not pay the price of a game to improve the QOL for all of your gaming
    I have to say that my personal solution has worked great as it allows me to store homework and random crap underneath it (1" ~) while not having the game propped up so high that i have to crane my shoulders over everything (also hangs over the table a bit so that it increases the game space) It also leaves space on sides of the tables to have all the drinks and what have you.
    Another bonus is that it fits all of those foldable tables. (lol, I feel like I'm writing an ad now).
    Otherwise, looking forward to a war chest review. I'd love your take on it.

    Why is the table surface so low? Not sure I'd like that but then I don't play lots of expensive board games that many have taller pieces. And maybe there is another reason I'm not considering.

    • @NoPunIncluded

      If the table was taller, it just wouldn't be comfortable. If the groove was deeper, your knees would suffer.

    Okay cool but how do you value setup and teardown in your reviews now that you don't have to do that? Most people don't have 2000 $ to spare for a gaming table. For most people, setup and teardown is quite a factor for a game to get played.
