I met him as a young kid at an appearence in Long Island, N.Y. years ago. He was incredibly kind, humble, and funny. When he shook my hand, I felt like I was meeting a friend, a quite famous friend, but a friend. A wonderful actor who has made a great contribution to the imagination and joy of many, many, people, especially legions of young people. God bless Jon!
Wow Lucky you! I have no doubt he was all that. Isn't that wonderful ! Some people have such a nice way with people So refreshing when it was it is someone famous! I so agree with the last sentence of your post! Loved DS and loved Jonathan!
He never said he 'hated' her. They respected one another and were friends but 'yes' they were critical of each other's acting style but did not hate each other Plzzzzzz SMH. I have a ton of candid pics from 1970 /'71 of Frid and Grayson laughing, hugging, smoking and drinking together at the studio parties and at the Lyndhurst mansion in Tarrytown and at Grayson's apartment where she'd throw parties. If Frid did not like her he would never have attended those parties .
@Tom Lowery Nonsense. Grayson's son has stated many times in interviews and in comments in the Facebook groups that Jonathan Frid was often at their apartment during the run of the show and that Jonathan and Grayson enjoyed each others company.
There are comments posted from Matt Hall in the Frid FB grps where he said they were friends, not close friends but still friends that respected each other and worked together as a team. Frid did not hate her They had differences in opinion and in their acting styles which they did not agree on.
Jonathan really liked Grayson Hall as a friend and profesonal actor this is like a question I asked Grayson back in 1972 when I met her, So sad that actors of that caliber are no longer around. thanks for asking Mike
@Michael Byro Are you on Facebook? Were you a member of Grayson Hall's Fanclub back then? There were several of her fans that were able to visit the DS studio in Manhattan , see the studio, meet the cast and even went to her apartment as members of her fanclub back then. I think it was a guy named Mark Massina , Messina who was her fanclub president back then in the early 1970's.
Yeah I loved Grayson and Jonathan’s acting together like Barnabas and Julia “buddies in plotting and planning”. So for me it’s nice to know that they were sweet friends that got together for dinner off the set 💖
Jonathan was a genius. He was such a wonderful and well rounded actor. He pretty much gave "vampires" as a charater a real voice. You will me missed and I'm so sad I never got to meet him.
DARK SHADOWS Iconic characters Barnabas, (Sherlock), Dr. Hoffman, (Dr. Watson) & Prof. Stokes, (Lestrade): Frid, Grayson & Thayer David awesome Acting talents complimented each other as their "Solved" the dreaded curse that was cast on COLLINWOOD. Their spellbinding Sherlock HOLMES*DS's teamwork was quite "successful and amazing" to watch. Love, it!!!
@@calibansfriend I know that the two Dark Shadows movies House of and Night of Dark shadows were both filmed at the Lyndhurst mansion estate up in Tarrytown NY . The house used for Collinwood on the TV show was at the time called Seaview Terrace and that house known as Collinwood is in Newport Rhode Island now known as The Carey family mansion.
I've been to a couple of conventions in the past...and I think the best way to see them now is to just watch little clips of them on UA-cam. Just as good as being there....better....you don't have to stand between a vampirella and a dude in a borg outfit.
I remember looking up at my Barnabas poster on the wall of my bedroom, wishing he'd come through my window! JF was the lifeblood of that show (pun intended).
this is great! jonathan is adorable Always loved him as man and actor. Such a real person Such a class act Rest in peace Jonathan! Thanks for everything. So appreciate seeing this !!!!
He looks, and sounds, so different now, I'd hardly recognize him. One interesting thing -- he now bears a vague resemblance to British actor-comedian Rowan Atkinson.
He reminds me of my Dad. They both had to wear partial dentures on the upper front teeth, and both had trouble hearing. In fact my Dad has a cochlear implant, but he still has trouble hearing! lol! The questions put to Jonathan were difficult to understand, and a bit long-winded! Poor Jonathan! I miss him! ~Janet in Canada
Barnabas is Still alive just in another Time zone. Lets see 1795, 1897.1966, 1972..I bet if you check the coffin it will be empty! Barnabas you sly dog, we know your still Alive just in another Time period. question is which?
I do like Grayson Hall, however, she paused every couple words, no-one speaks like that in real life, at least I've never met anyone who put a coma after every other word. I do like her, but because this was permitted episode after episode, I blame the directors. She was married to one of the writers not the directors as well! Were the directors also new at this ? Allowing all the lines to be morphed into nonsensical screams and shrieks by some actors. Blah!!
Actually, Mrs. Hall was directed to speak the way she did for dramatic effect to 'drag it out' and emphasis on certain words with dramatic long pauses. it was a soap opera and that was part of the formula back then in early soaps. She was also directed to do those awful screams and quivers for the same reasons. Ms. Hall once stated to the director "I am not a screamer" and the director said well you are an actress so act it out.
I think she was one of the better actors. In my view. But I hear you Tammy, the entire show was sort of hokey, wasn't it? You do know Frid was gay right? He said "Barnabas was a man with a secret such as I have."
@@Debby901 Yeah there were about nine DS actors who happened to be Gay and four people that I am aware of who worked behind the scenes who also happened to have been Gay as well. No big deal today but they all could have been legally fired back in the day . Dan Curtis wanted to fire Louis Edmonds when he found out that Louis was a gay man . The Dark Shadows writer Joseph Caldwell mentioned all this and that had Dan Curtis known in advance about Mr Frid before hand that he was gay then he would have hired a theatrical stage actor named Bert Convy instead for the then temporary role of the vampire / Barnabas. Thankfully it all worked out. Mr. Frid did indeed have a full n rich life. Happy doing what he wanted and had a nice home in Canada.
Hokey? I think that's the discretion I heard of Dark Shadows. it was a beautiful experiment in prime time television. I am sure the budget was confined. I have seen anything interesting on television or movies ( I have searched long and hard. ) in ten years. just sad and pathetic attempts to " reboot " a series or movie. comic book heroes are " rewritten " as to " fit a narrative or agenda " IE not offend anyone to the point Hollywood sucks and it can't even do that right. the one good thing about the pandemic is that it almost killed Hollywood and talentless musicians, athletes and actors.
Unfortunately, Johnny (as talented as he truly is) reminded me of Jack Sparrow dressed up in a Vampire costume in the recent Tim Burton re-make. Sometimes enjoyable but it will NEVER have the same impact or following as the original.
Jonathan Frid still roams the Collinwood of our hearts and imagination.

Rest in Peace, dear Jonathan ~

It was one of the best daytime shows, as a kid we used to live near Lyndhurst mansion where some of the shows were filmed and saw some of the cast.

I can remember rushing home from school to watch Dark Shadows. Came on at 4pm.

Gotcha on that one!😄. Me too It was a great show. It stirred the imagination, romance, mystery and action all in one daytime slot

@ 01:17 Frid talks about Grayson Hall
I was there for this and I so regret not lining up and asking him a question 😓
I love Jonathan Frid.
that's so sad that he's partly death cause he's the one who got mysealf into the acting life
Still the one!
Love this video of Jonathan!
Both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were also big fans of Frid's and they spoke about what an honor it was to finally meet him. That is so cool.

mis saludos al gran actor.
