I have to say, Instagram has made me 700% ruder to people taking pictures. I live in the Netherlands and anytime I need to go from A to B in the medieval center of town or anywhere in Amsterdam, there's 100% someone posing in SHEIN on a bridge. I used to be really polite, always walk or bike around someone photographing. But it's become so oversaturated in the last 2 years, and it's honestly a bit irritating. A family posing in front of a church is cute, a influencer in their outfit, ring light, 2 reflectors, and 2 guys with a big camera is just annoying. The road isn't your studio for a fashion shoot. At a certain point you can barely go down to the clubs or to the grocery store without running into someone with a ring light, especially in Amsterdam . Hell, I was in NYC a year ago and there were certain places in Manhattan where there was a girl trying to get pictures at each crosswalk, blocking up traffic. Maybe a small price to pay to live somewhere beautiful but there's something irritating about it.
And then someone will say tourism isn’t a problem because they paid to be there. Which is absurd because you wouldn’t act that way in a restaurant, or maybe they would. Who knows.

But often influencers bring in people who just want to take the same photo they saw online in the same bars and locations the influencer showed them. And once that cute cupcake spot isn't trending anymore, it won't survive because it wasn't built on local preferences but on insta. In places like Spain the economy is constantly all over the place, because the whole country relies too much on tourism. So there's more than enough money coming in and jobs in the summer but mass unemployment in the winter. Tldr, the kind of economic activity that tourism brings is flighty at best. Even if it can grant short term gains it's a unsustainable income stream for businesses and countries, because that kind of attention is too short-term , flighty , and seasonal. Even though people definitely make a living, even a good living, on the tourism sector, and tourism definitely helps keep some cultural heritage and cuisine alive in some places... though by the same token it might americanize local food.

Even if they only post the birds in their backyard, you usually watch because you’ve been influenced to do so.
