Rivals day! A great day of cycling (covering 118k in total) exploring the stadiums of the two teams that form the Potteries derby - Stoke City and Port Vale. This video looks at the unique rivalry between these two historic clubs, a quick stadium tour of each ground, the journey between the two stadiums and even an interview with the Port Vale owners' son!
The ride began in Stoke as I headed down Stanley Matthews Way to the bet365 Stadium. I had a good look around, did the usual loop of the stadium where possible (some access restricted) and spoke to one of their loyal supporters and staff members (cheers, John!), before then heading off to Vale Park via loads of gravel tracks, tunnels, canal tow paths and more.
At Vale Park, I was just about to do a loop of the ground when I bumped into the club owners’ son, Paddy. He let me into the ground, brought me down the tunnel (which, let me tell you is massively atmospheric!) and then pitchside in the dugout. What an absolute legend!
Finally, after the loop of Vale Park it was time to begin the bulk of all that cycling back home to St Helens via Crewe, where I even managed to pay a very brief visit to Crewe Alexandra's stadium too - I'll cover that one another day.
All-in-all, I really enjoyed this ride and my time in Stoke - a really friendly place with both sets of fans clearly passionate about their clubs. Which two rivals would you like to see me cover next? Leave a comment below and let me know.

Great video mate! Honestly our club is such a good community club and would do anything for our community… it’s great how you got a little look around the ground. The owners and the owners family are brilliant with the club too… couldn’t ask for better owners. Glad you enjoyed going around vale!

Stoke fan here but honestly Vale owners are brilliant people. So much charity work and they are brilliant people, and both clubs have that community club feel

This ground was built to be proposed Wembley of the North but never progressed due to lack of funding had a record attendance of 59 000 against liverpool

My late mother was one of the tea ladies at stoke from 1967 to 1975 at The Old Vic , of course she met the great players of that period

Odd quirk, the only top flight game to be played at Vale Park was a Stoke home fixture when the roof blew off the Butler Street stand at the old Victoria Ground.

@Keith Johnson it's easy to get to and a stone's throw away from the town centre....just like thee old victoria ground was at stoke I prefer those type locations just my opinion
@Keith Johnson yes they just build um where ever there is land I like thee old fashioned grounds that are near the town centre but it's all personal choice at thee end of the day

Bet 365 Stadium had to have people working to clean up. Where Vale Park was spotless considering its age, even exterior walls looked like they had been pointed. i searched the trophy game that was talked about in this and i read stoke fans were smashing toilets. its amazing how polite and well spoken you see the Vale fans talk in these comments, yet all i see Stoke fans do is be bitter. Why is this if Stoke City are the better club? i think i give the Vale fans the win. so Vale beat you on the pitch, beat you off the pitch, beat you in hospitality, beat you in ground history, beat you by having the better fans...how does it feel to have those unwashed hands fisting you sir?
