That's a beautiful piece of wood, and the design is fantastic. You have a very special talent.
Wow, that's really kind of you. Thanks so much. You've made my day. 👍
Lovely build
Excellent tutorial on the crimson finishing oils - thank you - I’ll be following this for my recent acoustic build.
As a beautiful guitar. You are an artist. I just found this video. But I’d love to watch you build some more.
Since the guitar was a bolt on: You can use the bolt holes to bolt on some scrap wood (with hook also) for a good handle. Good video, thanks for posting.
Thanks mate, much appreciated. Funnily enough I just did that bolt-on/hook thing for the guitar I'm making at the moment and it worked a treat. Don't know why I didn't do it earlier... Thanks very much for watching. Nice one!
Thank you !
I used the penetrating oil on mahogany (4-6 thin coats, wiping after letting it sit 5ish mins) and it's still sticky a week after. (23c, 25% humidity). Should I just go ahead and sand it down and use another product, or do I still have some hope left of it drying completely?
I reckon there's still hope, even though it should have cured by now. I've only done it a few times and it's worked, but it does take a while to get to the point where to think, okay, that's probably about it. With the one in the video, there was maybe a little bit of stickiness after a week, but not so much that the hardware couldn't be assembled. Even so, it's definitely more of a cured finish now it's been left for months. If you've done it right, I'd be patient, maybe for another week or so, and see what happens. Good luck.
What kind of pickups? They sound nice...
Cheers. Pickups are two Vanson p90s I picked up on eBay for £35 for the pair (they still sell them, I've just checked). They're not bad, to be fair.
is it possible to use only the high build oil?
You might be able to? I've never tried it. I just saw a video of the chap at Crimson Guitars using one first, then the other to make it shine. I suspect you probably could though.
could you just use the penetrating oil ? does that still cure and harden ?
Yep, it does and is a bit easier to put on as it's not quite as tacky and is quicker to cure. I used it on another guitar build (there's a video floating around on my channel) and it turned out well, though obviously not as shiny as using the hi-gloss oil. It still gives a really nice finish though, just use lots of thin costs.
@@littleblackdotsmusic2963 Thanks, i've just put the first coat on a tele project i'm working on. First time i've finished a guitar! I ordered one of their stains and the penetrating oil. I havent got the high finish oil. Not sure whether to just use the penetrating or to buy the high finish as well
@@AndrewHossack1972 Congrats on finishing the Tele! I'm struggling in that department at the moment with a couple of half-finished projects. I would stick with just the finishing oil, especially if you've got a stain underneath it. It does give a really nice satin finish. Good luck.
@@littleblackdotsmusic2963 thanks for the advice. really pleased with how it looks and feels after 1 coat !
Just found your video (two years later) and have to say thank you since I'm about to apply that same oil on my partscaster project. It's been a great piece of advice.
No worries, mate. Glad it was useful, and good luck.
