Thanks for doing this! I have almost finished the book and do not really have anyone to talk to about the book - so it's quite interesting to hear other's opinion on it! God it's a beautiful book.
Fascinating! I love this book. The Karamazov brothers would be at home at any pre-covid Irish wedding or funeral! I’m happy Dostoyevsky took his time making sure we got to know all the personalities before the story takes off. I can get confused with Russian names, but he made it easy for me. Speaking of the description of poverty, this is a late Victorian novel and the poor in England are described in similar ways in London and mill or mining centres. Thanks for your hard work. Deb
I’m watching this with only 50 pages to finish this amazing book as a way to live it a little longer before finishing it. I’m no expert by any measure but I recommend everyone really taking their time to read the first half. It all comes together in the latter half. At the end you really go through so many aha moments about the start!
in book 4, i really doubt the general offered to beat his own child literally. it was meant to say "hey asshole, how much more do you want my kid to suffer?"
Finally an in-depth analysis of this book! Have read the book multiple times but every time I read or watch an analysis some new insights are always there to motivate me to read it again #TeamIvan :)
I got cracked up when the "lioness" had her big cat fight scene with Katarina - She was reeling Kat in by promising to be her "slave" - Kat wanted some of that THICCC PAWG too (Dovys words not mine 🤣) Holding her hand to her lips - letting her feel her warm breath - then pulling away once she knew she had her
My guy Krypto really looks like a nerdy version of aaron rodgers. love these videos man, as I am reading the book I watch these videos at the same time and its really a great way to get through the book and not be totally on your own

I wish I had discovered your channel before reading the book. Honestly, it was a tedious slog to get through. I might get more out of it a second time after gaining some insight from your videos.
The random narrator. 🤣 Listening to this, I realize how much of this novel I have forgotten. Thanks for spoiling Christmas with the Kranks! I was totally going to watch that tonight! haha ....I cant believe you just compared this to the Big Bang Theory...and I cant even disagree with it haha. Oh Jeez. 😅
Thank you for the analysis! By the way, the stress is on the second A, not the final O ("KaraMAzov"). Also, AlyOsha, not AlyOOsha - little Alex. I would also like to add that you're mixing up the two archetypal Russian characters a bit - the martyr is not strictly the same as the blessed fool (the yurodivy).
I just finished book 4 and rushed to watch this video. I feel like you could have broken this down in much more detail. This seems like a VERY short synopsis of each book and then some discussion. I would have enjoyed a 20 minute plus video on each book individually in order to have more discussion on the details contained within each book. Maybe you will discuss further books in more detail but this left me wanting more.
Sorry it wasn’t long enough. I’m glad you are very passionate about the book and are looking for more discussion. It’s a constant struggle with how long to make our chats.
I don't think Ivan is a devil! I think he is supposed to be a genuinely good person who is just struggling with what it means to be good - but what makes him good is the fact that he is continually striving after good, even if he doesn't know how to go about it. He uses cynicism to mask his vulnerability in that sense. I think the only true "devils" in the novel are the "father" and the lackeu. All the other characters, even when their striving is imperfect and/or deeply flawed, *are* striving towards good.
Thanks, enjoyed this. Something that really struck me as being quite out of place was the incident where Ivan elbowed Maksimov in the chest off the carriage. Do you have any thoughts on that, as it was a sudden burst of seemingly random violence - I feel like Ivan is quite perceptive as to whom he feels are leeches on Russia/ others and doesn't suffer their company, but I felt it was odd all the same.
I believe in Alexei! Lol You're right, I identify with with him bc he tries to be like Jesus. It's impossible for me to not root for a character like that.
Una, I'm gonna say it... I think you're smarter than Dostoyevsky. Your discussion on Alyosha is interesting because he was the first character I latched onto myself.
Thanks for doing this! I have almost finished the book and do not really have anyone to talk to about the book - so it's quite interesting to hear other's opinion on it!

I know the feeling of finishing an awesome book and wanting to talk about it with someone!
I used to hate school. I take a semester off from university and here I am watching a book review on my own time 😂
😂
hey dostoevsky is a treat, theres no shame in that

DOSTOEVSKY'S :"THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV" IS A MASTERPIECE: THE WORLD'S GREATEST NOVEL.
had to watch this to recap before starting up at The Grand Inquisitor before a looong hiatus and it was very helpful! thanks a bunch!

I'll never not see Ivan as Sheldon again!
And my favourite character so far is definitely Dmitri - he's the most artistic, I think.
Yesss! #TeamDmitri

Just finished chapter 3 so I’ll brb. This is my first book since 1984 so allow me time for the information to be retained as well as newspeak.
Jumping into the deep end! I love it. I hope you enjoy the book!
Thanks a lot! I've been reading and it's the first time I've got to hear other people's perspectives!
Excellent. I hope you enjoy the book
I’m only 200 pages in and Fyodor is a great character, my favourite so far.
Awesome! Found your channel through your Before you Read BK and finished the book today. Pretty cool coincidence for me
Please keep it up
Will do!

I love this discussion... even if I am still soooo far behind on this read along (still in Book 4...) You guys are awesome. 🥰
You're too kind! Glad you're trudging along at your own pace!

Christmas with the Kranks is an annual watch for our household! I even read the Grisham book :D
Highly appreciate this. Thank you :)
Our pleasure.
Thanks for this! Great guide as I work my way through this great novel😀
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing this, guys. Otherwise I'd have never read it.
Oh man, I knew this would be up your ally!

I’m an agnostic, but Father Zossima is pretty convincing.
😂
THE WORLD GREATEST NOVEL.
I read the first 4 books like two years ago and now I need a refresher 😅
👍
The name Карамазов is pronounced Ka-ra-MA-zav. The accent is on the third syllable and the o is pronounced almost the same as the a's.

All good 👍
Reading this book and pretending that I'm having a conversation with two of my friends😅😅

That part hadn't stuck out to me so I didn't have an interpretation on that.
Excellent
WHAT NO WAY YES PLEASE THANK YOU

Definitely going to say that's not true. So many people love them some Alyosha!
My audiobook narrator says Lisa which is how the Lise I knew pronounced her name.
Thank you
Good job 👍👍👍.
Thanks
Which translation do you recommend?
Seems most popular is Pevear and Volokhonsky. I liked Garnett myself. Best to try a few out if you can
I am still in book 2. Man I am behind.
Ramsey! My man! How'd you put it down? :D
Thanks guys this is awesome! I’m on book 10, been at it like 2 months, it’s nice to kind of go back and here some others thoughts on it!
I know that feeling when you finish a book and want to share and hear other people’s thoughts! Glad to share ours 👍
I want to know anytime you come across something that might have influenced RASPUTIN !
Surely he read this book👍👍
If your looking for an American equivalent to a serf, look no further than a sharecropper.
Madam choclava? 😂
Count Chocula? 😂
If I’m not gonna read the book I’m def not gonna watch an extra 16 min video haha
7:00 and the 'Baby boo' thing right after were pretty cringeworthy. I preferred the analysis by Fiction Beast.
The goofy singing and modern word usage? Sounds like we might not be the channel for you if that’s getting under your skin. Sorry. Best of luck.
@@TheCodeXCantina Yeah, it detracts. 'Goofy' forced humour is not what I'm after when dealing with a book this profound.
@@BlackSailPass_GuitarCovers No worries. I understand how a rock can change your path. I can agree with the profundity of the novel. Cheers.
