I love the fact that at the beginning Samuel L Jackson wanted a purple lightsaber only to be seen during the battle of Geonosis but after that in the Star Wars universe the purple lightsaber became the weapon of a jedi who can fight with rage without falling to the darkside (like Mace Windu) or who philosophically speaking is a synthesis between the siths and the jedis (like Revan or Kreia) because Blue + Red = Purple 👍🏻😄

I disagree with several things Mace Windu did (like trying to justify killing Palpatine and not trusting Anakin) but not making Anakin a master was entirely justified.
No one that young had *ever* been on the council before, so Anakin being allowed in was a huge honor. Plus, the only reason he had a claim to be there was because the chancellor "appointed" him. To keep the devision of power and limit the chancellor's obvious attempt at gaining influence amongst the Jedi, it made complete political sense not to make Anakin a master and give him voting power. A vote by Anakin would essentially be a vote from Palpatine.
But most importantly, Anakin was simply not worthy of being a master. And no, I'm not talking about his raw power and skill. Being a master requires maturity, experience, a dedication to the Jedi way, and emotional stability, all things Anakin clearly did not possess. His outburst upon being denied the rank proves he was not worthy. Anakin still had some serious issues he needed to work out and the solution to this problem was not placiating him with more power he could not handle.
When a child throws a fit and overreacts became he didn't get something he wants, you don't solve the problem by giving him what he wanted. That just makes the problem worse and doesn't make the child a better person. Anakin needed to learn humility and emotional control. Making him a master would just give him more problems and make his ego and sense of entitlement worse. Mace Windu made the right call here. Anakin was the one who dropped the ball with his overreaction.

@@anakinskywalker549, I do trust you. But you can trusting someone while also acknowledging their faults in hopes that they will grow as people and better themselves.
I'm the closest thing you have for a father Anakin and part of that responsibility means looking out for you and placing you in situation were you can succeed. Any good parent trusts their kids, but they also keep them aways from things that can damage them and make sure they earn their responsibilities.
I didn't make you a master because I knew you were not ready, that appointing you as such would damage your emotional stability and morality in the long run. Making you a master would be dangerous for yourself and you still needed time before you were ready to rise to such a level. It's not that I didn't trust you, it's just that I knew you were not ready. Do not take this as an insult, I'm did it because I care about you and sometimes, boundaries is what people need to succeed.
And I did trust you, evidenced by how I asked you to spy on the chancellor. That was a crucial job only you could do! If you had simply done your job and retained an aura of humility, you would have demonstrated the maturity to become a master. Accepting your role in all this would have led to your ranking as a master in no time.
Lest we forget, no one at your age had even been declare a master. No need to be mad at something not being given you that was unprecedented. ;-)

I don't think it was a "mistake" to deny Anakin rank of Master. Although it eventually alienated him and served as a catalyst for his turn to the dark side, the fact that this is so is evidence he clearly didn't have the temperament to be a master. So in principle, the Jedi were correct to deny him the rank, although they certainly made other mistakes to aid Anakin's turn.

Ani did more than enough to warrant the rank of knight and if CW Anaikin part of cannon, showed that he was at the rank of master before RotS.
The issue is Windu was by far the worst aspects of a Jedi. He was attached by being disattached from his surroundings. He cared little for the force except when it was convientent. His whole goal was to use his seat to influence the council in the affairs of the Republic. At the end all Windu cared about was the republic, not the force or his fellow Jedi.

Mace isn't my favorite Jedi but in looking at him more closely I think he's a good dude. Sure he's more serious and intimidating as befitting a character played by Samuel L. Jackson but that doesn't mean he's uncaring. We see him save his clone troopers during the Ryloth Arc, he expresses concern about the well-being of the Zillo beast and in his comics we see him talking about emotion as a shared language between peoples. He even tries to get Boba a lighter sentence and a fellow Jedi who suddenly turns and attacks him he not only doesn't kill him but instead of prison sends him to work in the archives in the hopes the Jedi reassess his choices. Heck he's even nicer to Jar Jar of all people then Qui-Gon.
Now on the Ahsoka bit? I love her but it was SHE who set the boundary and called herself citizen in the first place. Mace is keeping that boundary SHE set up and she doesn't get mad at him for it. He may have not been the kindest about it but he's got a lot on his plate at the moment. Also she's no longer part of the Jedi Order nor the GAR. You can't just share classified intel with someone outside of the command structure, even if you know and trusted them before. It could get people killed.
Then of course he's willing to be the fall guy to take out the sadistic, psychopathic dictator who has done all the crimes against humanity and then some. No, the galaxy is probably not going to believe Palps is Space Satan or fully know the atrocities he had and would continue to commit for the next 23 years. Meaning Mace is likely going to jail. But he's willing to make that sacrifice for the good of the galaxy.
So yeah, Mace is more of a hard personality and not everyone's going to get along with that. But that doesn't mean he isn't unfeeling or uncaring. I'm giving a solid B+.

Movie version: cold, cool, acts badass, but little impact or character development.
EU version: Jedi badass who walks a very fine line between the light and dark side of the force, created his own fighting style that was the most powerful and aggressive but could tip one over to the dark side, had way more impact and development.

Mace Windu is my all time favorite Jedi aside from Anakin and personally I'd give him an A...but storywise I'd give him a B. I think Mace is the entirety of the collective soul, doctrine and morals of the Jedi all rolled into 1 person. He's extremely disciplined, tactical, knowledgeable, perceptive and highly skilled. He takes the Jedi code of not being attached to anyone or anything almost to an extreme, but he also has the heart to defend and protect the weak. He does come off as arrogant at times but I think it's only because he takes things so seriously. He's a stark contrast to Yoda who often finds humor and the light-side to most situations. But Mace was actually right all along about Anakin. He sensed that Anakin was potentially dangerous ever since TPM. The other Jedi seemed to dismiss their early perceptions of Anakin but Mace never did. But it also became a self fulfilling prophecy as Windu's distrust of Anakin is what partially drove him to the darkside. I feel that Windu embodied the Jedi Order at the era of the Clone Wars perfectly, just as Donald Trump embodies America perfectly in this day and age with his flashy image, businessman persona and habitual narcissism. I'm not trying to be political, but instead just show how one person can represent nearly the entire picture of the mood or moral compass of a society

Yes. Mace Windu is the embodiment of a good Jedi: A master of the lightsaber, someone who is great in the force, someone who spends his whole life fighting the dark side both externally and internally, and calm & collective at all times. But he also represent all the Jedi flaws: rigid, distant, almost cold to anyone who don't know what Jedi Masters can be like, and almost an air of arrogance in the way they find that their way is the right way.
Mace is what Jedi strove to be, but also the reason the Jedi Order fell from grace. Mace followed the Jedi creed blindly, and because of this he exhibit all the flaws of the Jedi order at that time.

I find it a little confusing that everyone just sort of takes it as a given that Mace Windu is arrogant. Is he really? When Qui Gon says the Sith are back, he doesn't laugh in his face or chastise Qui Gon for his thinking, he just expresses his doubts but then eventually comes to agree. At the end of AOTC, Windu doesn't boast about how the Jedi are great or that the Republic are great allies, he expresses caution about the Senate. You could say his doubts about Anakin are a sign of arrogance, but the fact is he and the rest of the "stubborn" jedi were 100% right to doubt Anakin, as the movies show. I agree that Mace is a little too abrasive and maybe should have tried to be more kind to Anakin, but the fact that everyone just jumps to calling him arrogant feels like we're just used to saying "the PT jedi are arrogant" in general and not thinking about it any further.

I think Windu is a great character. He views the Republic as the best hope for civilization in the galaxy and he's even said that if killing someone he loves like Yoda would save it he would and he would expect anyone else to do the same. I've never understood the issue of people thinking Anakin should be granted the rank of Master when the whole reason he is on the council was that the Chancellor put him there in the first place when they already elect their own members. He's a controlled and disciplined character who I think is an embodiment of a Jedi Master of the Republic but not so much the Jedi as a whole and that can put him at odds with more popular Jedi like Kenobi who is a Jedi Master of the Order's ideals. The movies I think have the problem of placing Mace as just opposition to Anakin and an example of how the Jedi have fallen.
To those who have only seen Mace in the films and television, I'd recommend the RoS novelization and the novel Shatterpoint as I think they do his character much better service.

A lot of detail and sublty about his personality and outlook and certain events of his life are overlooked or made mundane. I love your comment about qui gon telling anakin to feel while the rest of the Jedi tell him not to. His own original experience with Jedi, with the one who was a father figure of sorts, was all about feeling and compassion. Then he ended up with people telling him to curb his feelings. Yes, they encourage compassion, but they don’t teach it well, especially to a kid who is already damaged from growing up as a slave. Then palpatine comes along and constantly tells him to search his feelings and shows him compassion in a manipulative way. This reminds him of his ideal Jedi experience and thus continues the trust in palpatine. That also prepares him to be more easily pushed into the dark side because palpatine focused almost too much on feelings, thus slowly making him more and more controlled by them. Whereas qui gon would have encouraged the acknowledgement and use of feelings without a strict reliance upon them, a more balanced view. But anakin never had the chance to learn that so he went with what felt better and offered him more of what he wanted.

Anakin not getting the rank of Master makes sense to me because he's basically shoehorned onto the Council by Sheev. It's completely outside of the Jedi Order's own system and so abrupt. I mean it's like me a random fan suddenly getting thrown in charge of Lucasfilm or another big project ahead of literally anyone in the industry. I mean that's going to make people rightfully suspicious and upset. Anakin is only 22-23. Sure he's done a lot but he's still so young and has much to learn. I could easily see him becoming a Master down the road when he has a bit more life experience under his belt. Sheev was counting on the tension to further isolate Anakin from any support. A common tactic among abusers.
Now as to the spying bit well it does show they have trust in ANAKIN otherwise you wouldn't ask them to spy would you? They are suspicious of Palps because he's amassed all this power and seem reluctant to give it away. A big red flag for a leader. In addition to suddenly appointing Anakin on the council which makes it look like it was a favor done to him. Also if he's already a liaison between the two then he should be reporting what's going on to the Council anyway.

Mace does have strong emotions, he just hardly lets them shine through. The main reason why he scored so low is a) because he antagonised Anakin (bing right in many regards) and b) because most people aren't familiar with the novels of shatterpoint, labyrinth of evil and revenge of the sith. Those three novels clearly show Mace caring for Depa, his padawan and almost daughter to him and explicitly stating his love for the republic and the turmoil he is pushed into upon discovering Sidious due to this.

Why is it that week after week we’re choosing prequel characters? I want to see characters like Han and Leia ranked beside the rest of the characters. We literally picked Ventress before Han Solo! I’m not hating on this channel, I love the content and it isn’t Thor’s fault, but why are we the audience not picking half the main characters in the skywalker saga?

I think that Mace Window is a character that still needs to be explored but has the potential to become an A tear character. We don't see him a lot in the prequels nor clone wars, but we do get a sense of what kind of jedi he is. I think that if there was to be an anthology movie about mace window, it should be set before episode 2 or even before episode 1, so that we get to see how he became the kind of jedi that he is in episode 2 or 3.

Here’s the thing about the master issue. What makes someone a Jedi Master isn’t their power and skill, but their overall academic and philosophical understanding of the Force. Simply put, Anakin was not ready to be a Jedi master. Luke Skywalker in Legends said it best with this quote: “Making someone a Jedi Master based on their power and skill is the equivalent of saying a little toddler waving around a proton bomb is equipped to teach a college course”. Yes he was Ahsoka’s master, but I felt it was an unofficial ranking for him.
He was only in that position because Yoda and the other Jedi wanted to see if this sort of responsibility could change Anakin’s ways. Low and behold, it didn’t. He just didn’t have the emotional maturity to be a Jedi master. Had the Order not fallen, and had he been given time, he could’ve matured over time.

I also want to point out that when Mace had Sidious at blade point, fans were talking about how hypocritical it was for Mace to try and kill Sidious since he goes by the doctrine of"it is not the Jedi way to take a defenseless person's life"for starters Yes I agree it isn't the Jedi way but palpatine was literally using the force as a weapon by shooting force lightning at him he was not defenseless. And besides initially Mace was going to take him in and it wasn't only until he felt sidious's power literally threatening to turn him into a charred husk with lightning was when he resolved to take his life. Despite the fact that we knew palpatine was faking being too weak, Mace Windu didn't but I understand why he would throw his convictions to the wall at this particular point because not only does this guy have too much influence over the republic courts and the Senate but Sidious was literally too powerful as he said. Again that doesn't make it right him being a hypocrite but I understand in that crucial moment he was probably thinking"it took everything I had just to push this lightning back no handcuffs would be able to bind this dude He's literally too strong and dangerous"like we saw the strain on his face as he was struggling to keep the lightning at bay
Like who's to say once they get him in cuffs and start walking him away, Sidious could have called the clones or the senate guards to deal with Mace and Anakin? Or even worse what if palpatine manages to crack his shackles because we know damn well he could(we've seen Ahsoka do it in clone wars season 4 when she was a slave girl and she straight up just tore off her shock collar) So there's no reason as to why Darth Sidious, a more highly skilled force user than Ahsoka couldn't and let's not forget that Sidious also has a spare lightsaber in reserve The one he lost wasn't the only one .
You could feel however you want to about Mace Windu betraying his morals but it doesn't change the fact that palpatine HAD TO DIE that day. Palpatine's mere existence as a sith lord threatened everyone including not only Mace himself, but the people in the temple and the people in the republic. It doesn't matter if being a sith lord isn't a crime this man was literally going to (and he did) destroy the Democratic foundation of the republic and transform it into a fascist regime. It reminded me of something that Migs Mayfeld said in the mandalorian, we all Stick to our codes until things are at their worst" or something around those lines. Basically put, I feel it is ok to call out Mace Windu but palpatine needed to die that day at that exact moment because if he didn't.... Well just take a look the rest of revenge of the sith, The new bad batch series coming out, rebels, rogue one, and the original trilogy.

The trickiest thing mith Mace is that all the stuff to make him an A character are there but barely mentioned or left completely untouched even when it would have taken just a couple of scenes or just lines to throw in there and they would have without further explanations just naturally fitted in on the overall story. Like the theory that Mace saw himself as the most potentieal chosen one since he was known as the most powerfull Jedi and the leading member of the council. Also that his lightsaber symbolised the balance and all this made him very suspicious, scared and jealous of Anakin's undeniable Midichlorian amounts.

I love Mace Windu. He is technically a good guy, a jedi master, and yet for the prequel movies he is a underlying nemesis to Anakin, a road block Anakin's path to become an official jedi master and a big reason why Anakin sided with the Sith. I understand that Mace is arrogant and stuff, but thats who he is, his character embodies the ideas of the jedi at the time, as someone already said, Mace puts the jedi code above the force itself.
Mace Windu is one of my favorite characters and i would love to see him again in live action

I would argue that he is a great example of the influence the dark side was having on the Council as the war dragged on. In Dark Disciple [spoilers] he seemed to be the one who was pushing for the assassination of Dooku, and subsequently for wanting to kill Quinlan Vos after he fell to the dark side on that ill conceived mission. He seemed to take the lead in expelling Ahsoka to save face with the Republic. Even the way that he tried to arrest Palpatine was hasty and reckless, showing his arrogance. And this may not be a popular comment, but he was wrong to try to kill Palpatine at all, and Anakin was right to try to stop him (frankly if he had succeeded in striking down Palpatine in anger, he may have fallen to the Dark Side himself).
Mace was not evil and his intentions were genuine. But he had lost the way and his views were too rigid and corrupted to learn what the Force was trying to teach the Jedi. Yoda and Ahsoka were humble enough to see through the fog, but the Dark Side clouded most of the Jedi's vision.

The only way I really see the character is the legends version since canon does him no justice whatsoever in every medium. Movies he's good we just dont knw much of him. TCW he comes across as a cold dick sometimes but then u can also tell at times that he cares for his troops in a subtle way yet gets on wid it since its war. Books and comics kinda nonexistent. In legends he was unique in that his inherent darkness was far more pronounced and present compared to most average beings to the point where he walked the line of the light by balancing himself and then created a lightsaber form to compliment it, being he only person capable of doing so without falling to the dark sids. I loved the moment where we see his thought process in ROTS novelisation where he is willing to sacrifice the jedi principles to save the republic since it's the very thing that allows the galaxy to remain as stable as possible through democracy. It showed just how human he was and how his cold nature was acc inaccurate to the man he was. It also showed just how far the jedi had fallen by choosing to sacrifice his duty as a jedi in order to save the republic and was just confirmation to anakin, although personally while being against the jedi way, it's the rational thing to do imo, keeping sidious alive while in power was too great a risk. Besides all that he was one of the most powerful jedi to exist being second only to yoda and arguably sidious in his time, tho he defeated sidious in the duel so uno. If he ever fell to the dark side he would honestly mop the floor wid most beings except for those such as the ones, abeloth or perhaps vitiate.
