    I just made one using your video. Thank youuu. Ended up spending waaaay less, and I even have hair left over. I used 9 wefts and a 50 lb wire, and I sewed them all together for extra stability. Love it so much. Super quick, even with the sewing.

    I think I'm going to give this a whirl! But, I'll add a dot of glue to the knots to make sure they do not slip or untie. I've made jewelry with fishing line, and just a dot of glue really helps to keep it secure. I would also add that, with my fine, curly hair, I would never be able to pull it out from under the halo-I'd have to put it up beforehand. I really appreciate the tutorial!

    first I just want to say that I am your biggest fan and sub for life! you are so genius! also, I did want to add something that I thought might help keep the MF/fishing line from becoming untied since there were a couple people asking. but I thought of taking a bead that is using for the non-sewn beaded weft extensions and putting it over the knot and clamp it tight over it to help enforce the knot. my husband is a big fisher, so I have access to a ton of different fishing line to use, but I noticed with some of the diff line, they are harder to knot without them coming undone from them being stiffer or something. and the secret extensions that I found at the dollar store, had some type of metal piece to secure the string to the weft, instead of tying a knot, so I thought maybe doing that but on top of a knot, will help keep it more secure. anyways, thank you so much for teaching me so much about hair and extensions and different ways to make different pieces. I have learned so much from you!

      Thank you for the great advice! Crimp beads would absolutely work, but I haven't had a problem with knots untying. I'm sure that will help someone though!! Also, thank you for the kind words, so very sweet. Absolutely made my day.

    OMG. I just bought a halo extension off Amazon, and the first time I put it on, after I sized it to my head, the end came off. Naturally it was then too short to fix. Then I promptly lost the extra baggie of wire. I was super disappointed, but now, with your video, I can grab my fishing line and fix it up. Thanks soooooo much.

    GREAT video! Do you think halo made with hand tied weft could be applied on head, then secured tightly with micro links all around and be worn permanently? My hair is so fine and thin that i cant wear any extensions as they put too much weight on my hair, i tried lots of methods. I figure that the weight would be more on the string and then the micro links to keep it in place like in the non sewn beaded weft method. Maybe 2 tracks like that, a higher and lower one. Let me know what you think. I'm really trying to find something i could keep in my head! THANKS!

    Thank you so much for this video. I have a full set of good quality clip in human hair extensions, that I have only worn one time. I don't use them on a regular basis, because it is so time consuming to put them in. However, the color is perfect, and the hair is very healthy. Could I make them into a halo extension, in order to put them on easily before work in the mornings?

      Yeah, you can try it! Liquid Gold is more of a resin so it holds better and I like that. It doesn't stay rubbery like latex. For this, you don't need a ton of hold though. And if you find that your latex doesn't hold well enough - you can even sew the wefts together. :)

    will this work with seriously long hair? I've been searching for 200g 30 inch halo extensions forever and I just can't find anything!! My natural hair is 22 inches and really pretty thin, but I can never get much longer than that because it gets to about 24" and needs cutting so it never grows beyond that point. I've found 30" wefts online so I've been considering making my own for a while, do you think it'd work? I'm hoping if I can make a piece about 200g + then I can get my own hair AND the extensions cut so they blend and it'll look natural and thicker. What do you think?

    • @MissLizzy882
      @MissLizzy882 8 років тому +2

      Thank you so much! I think making my own is probably going to be the best option, and if I make the extensions thick enough (200g ish) then I should be able to trim them too as a way of blending my own hair in with it. Thanks for your advice!

  • @kathycain90

    Thank you so much for posting this video! I viewed a few videos, but yours is what made me think I MIGHT be capable of also making my extensions into a halo extension. Instead of gluing mine on, I hand-sewed it on. The part I had trouble with was attaching the fishing line. I wasn't sure how glue would hold up after washing it, so I ended up threading it onto a needle and attached it onto the weft that way. A halo extension makes all the difference in making you feel the extensions are not going to slip off of thin hair like my clip-ons did. Thank you again! I love mine - and no one knows I'm wearing it!
    By the way, the extensions that I find on-line never seem to be under 16". I need a maximum of 8", so in addition to taking the clips off, I also have to trim mine quite a bit. Any idea where I can find shorter ones?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  7 років тому +1

    One more question: Would a 10# filament or less, work for a halo? I have fine thinning hair on the top of my head (it's not too severe yet), and was thinking that a thinner filament would blend or hide better than the thicker filament.

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  5 років тому

      As long as the line is strong enough to not break with styling and wear. You may want to consider a top piece for blending. I absolutely love the one that Bohyme makes :)

      Do you mean it didn't stay in place on your head, or the line came untied? The line you use should make a pretty firm knot. You can try using tweezers to pull it tighter if its too awkward to grip.

I couldn't tell or see exactly how to get the other side on without a needle. Can u or someone explain that part of this tutorial better for me. • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  7 років тому +3

      For that part, you just want to tie your filament around all of the layers of weft (keeping out the stray hairs). Just do 4 or 5 single knots around the wefts, then knot the filament back around on itself then clip away the excess. :) Does that help?

      You can certainly try it. Worst case scenario, they will not hold and you'll have to use something stronger. :) You can even use a krazy glue gel - I would do something heavier than a latex hair glue - I think that would fall apart too easily.

    Can you take regular clip hair extensions and turn them into these?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  7 років тому +3

      Sure! I would start by taking the clips off and then sewing them together so you have a thick/wide weft. Since you'll have multiple pieces, just over lap them until you like the thickness and width - stitch them all together and then add your wire. :)

      To be honest, I'm not sure. It is very similar to a standard fishing line. Strong enough to hold in place, thin enough to be able to create knots to tie the ends. :) Almost anything will likely work. :)

    Can I do this on short hair

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  6 років тому

      You can, but blending may be tricky. Your top layer needs to be able to style into it. For short hair, clip sets might be better since you can get closer to the part lines.

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  6 років тому

      You probably wouldn't have to wear it higher on the head - it should work with a cap as is. If it gets uncomfortable, you could even attach it directly to the cap. :)

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  5 років тому

      Of course! So, if you put your halo piece on and find that there are blunt lines from your hair that give away that you are wearing a piece, adding additional clips in pieces higher up will help visually smooth that transition.

      @@doctoredlocks is it possible to do something else instead of clips, if they tend to damage your hair 😅💇🏽‍♀️?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  5 років тому

      Are you having breakage issues? You shouldn't be getting damage from clip ins. You can go to an extension stylist and have them blend your current length in to the Halo with some cutting techniques.

    • @vanessaloraine8572
      @vanessaloraine8572 5 років тому

      @@doctoredlocks yes. I actually got a little bald on the sides of my head from clip ins and the back. I guess my hair cant take it. And they were professionally installed. The back of my hair is half the length of my hair in the mid middle and front of my hair. It looks like I have a Bob. But a very bad one from breakage of clip ins in the back. Do I have to use clip ins, is that really my only option?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  5 років тому

      Clips shouldn't ever create damage unless they were left in or somehow caused excess tension. Halo pieces are not the easiest pieces to blend since they rely on the hair from the top to cover - if you have a shorter style, you could try making a shorter halo (just a few inches longer than your hair) and that will typically make a more believable cut. The only other thing that would make your blending easier is to use a top piece - but I hesitate to say that since they are also clipped into place. If you are struggling with clips, this may not be your best option. Were you leaving the clips in for longer periods of time? Do you know how/why they were causing damage?
