One of my absolute favourite books of all time. It's a great epic and character study. As I am just finishing Lord of the Rings for the first time, I found it interesting to see how you compared the two works. I can definitely see the similarities. The casting of the miniseries was near perfect.
I think it really points to his vanity. He just put the Latin on there to give the illusion he's more educated than he actually is. It is a character flaw many of us men share with Gus. I think that's why we love him.

Absolutely Gus does not know Latin. I don't think Gus would ever have the motivation to learn Latin

@@dustinneely to tell you the truth I've never thought that deeply about his character. One could say Gus is the Epicurean to Woodrow's stoicism.
