I use emojis sparingly and rely more on words so avoid to potential misunderstandings. Gen Z can interpret how they want - I am not changing my use of emojis based on them. I will be mindful of emojis depending on the recipient and cultural context. In some cultures, 👍, 🤘, or 👌 are offensive or even vulgar hand gestures so I would not use them as emojis with people of certain cultures.

I just asked my son he’s in his 20s. He said it depends on what is said the thumbs emoji can be perceived as rude. So it depends on context. He does not see it all rude
