@@TAYM The right choice for sure. Something about that metallic green colour doesn't look quite right on the Thruxton, imo. In combination with the gold forks it looks a bit chintzy. Whereas the chrome edition compliments the gold forks.
British Racing Green together with yellow can look great on classic Lotus cars but a metallic version of it paired with gold forks on a motorcycle does not!

Like many others, if I were laying it up, I would fill it to the brim and keep the cap on tight. Ethanol fuel needs moist air to do its nastiness. An empty tank full of moist air would be even worse! Give the rest of the bike a spray with a bike protector and a smart charger on the battery.

Lovely bike, in Germany they advise before winterising your bike to fill the tank up to the brim, at best with a fuel that has no, or at least a minimum amount of ethanol.
Ethanol attracts water and might cause the tank to rust.
Leaving the tank empty doesn't protect the tank either.
Difficult decisions, this is why I try to ride my bikes in winter once a week, which is also easier said than done.
    Have fun and ride safe.

I always fill the tank with BPs E95 which is said to be more like 99 octane and very little ethanol. A good idea is to put some marine Star Tron petrol additive which keeps any moisture out of the fuel mixed with the petrol. This stops the fuel going stale and keeps rust out of the tank. Keep on riding but above all stay safe.

I agree with most of the opinions here, always leave the fuel tank as full as possible as this eliminates any chance of condensation which can cause rust and never run the tank to near empty as these fuel pumps are dependent on being submerged in fuel for cooling. 🙂

Very nice machine Taym. An empty tank will get condensation and subsequent rust in it due to temperature fluctuations. That won't happen with a full tank. I always leave my tank completely full for the winter. The same applies to starting the bike in winter. It never gets warm enough for long enough to steam off condensation in the engine. I put a small amount of oil in the cylinders and leave it for the winter without starting on my W800.

When I lived NY, I would fill the tank with non-ethanol fuel, add a fuel stabilizer, hook the bike up to a battery tender and put the cover on it. I would also inflate the tires to their maximum pressure, coat the bike with a good coat of wax then wait for Spring.
P.S. the worst thing to do is start the engine once a week and run it for a few minutes then shut it down.

I always keep the tanks full of 89 at least I also use trufuel if I need a bike to sit over the three months of hostile cold finally got my replacement fly racing gloves had bought a set of mobile warm ones the latter I wish I hadn't ,always have found its better- genuine if someone speaks on issues because of experience - not just passing opinions of others as facts. I do know they work (gloves) (gas) though the nonethenol is pricey all you need is about a can . Again where you store them have a massive impact (outside under tarp) v.s ( heated garage) v.s (cold garage) ya know anyway it's always great to see what's on 🎉🎉🎉 thanks for the ride beautiful bike....

It's put away for the winter because I live in Colorado, but it's just waiting for the snow to melt! What an absolutely stunning looking machine that is with perfect classic/modern styling. Of all the Triumph chrome editions, it's the only one for me which actually improves the bikes looks. The exhausts blend perfectly with the lines of the bike and sound throaty enough to match the bikes character. If I didn't have the Rocket and the Thunderbird Sport there'd be one in my stable for sure.
As for winter storage I've always gone with a brimmed tank of high octane Premium, you don't want any of that fermented corn syrup leeching moisture from the tank or the air inside it. I won't put any of it in either of my bikes unless absolutely forced too due to there being no Premium near at hand. E10 is an absolute conn, the alcohol doesn't burn it seems to just evaporate. You get less MPG, it ruins carbureted engines and I'm pretty sure that over time it'll deteriorate even modern components.

A great looking bike is the Thruxton , chrome tank really sets it off . In my youth I found clip ons very comfortable , but that was a long time ago and before back injuries , the cafe racer look is unbeatable ., tastes like a chocolate eclair , a bike to keep . But I mean really keep ,not like a 2wheeledwillie " keepforever ".
Freddie Dobbs doesn't like clip ons because it makes the bike harder to push . Pride of ownership is a good point that nobody mentions much , I always like to feel proud of my bikes and where they are from .
Petrol full or empty ? If your garage temperature is constant , I wouldn't worry too much . I seem to get away with doing nothing in particular , I fired up my old Vstrom after 3.5 years of unheated storage and it started first time as always ,Guzzi was the same [ and that's Italian ! ] . La Dolce Vita eh . Ignorance is bliss and I can order a coffee while I wait for rescue , oh wait , I AM my own rescue !
Don't use WD40 on switch gear or any electrical stuff , it leaves a greasy residue that electricity can track along , there's other better products available . Alcohol like meths can remove water from switches etc , maybe somebody should tell Freddie that .

Regards to you emptying the tank for winter I have always been led to believe that you should fill the tank up to prevent the ingress of moisture, I always put at least E5 in but if people put E10 in that is more inclined as ethanol absorbs moisture, I’ve nothing to go on it is just my opinion.

Morning TAYM that's a beautiful looking bike and I don't blame you for putting it away for the winter and using something else.
I ride all of mine through winter but none of them are particularly valuable (money wise) so I just prep them for winter use and keep them clean, but concerning running fuel tanks dry , some bikes have the fuel pump in the tank and running them dry isn't recommended as the fuel acts as a lubricant, wether or not leaving it dry for prolonged periods hardens the seals or o rings I don't know? I've never done it I just thought it was worth mentioning.

This is what I do for over wintering storage of my motorcycles. I /. Run the tank to almost empty 2/. Pour in 150ml of Putoline fuel stabiliser. 3/. Fill the tank to the top with Esso Supreme which is sold as E5 but, I am told. has very little if any ethanol in it. 4/. Run the engine to fill the pump and fuel injectors with the new fuel. Filling the tank reduces the air and water vapour in the tank and this should reduce rusting. Fuel stabiliser reduces fuel degradation so it will still be good to use when you need it. I would not leave a metal tank empty. However, I am NOT a scientist and have no technical knowledge whatsoever.

The bike with no name is an absolute looker I'll bet it does turn heads. I love that it makes you happy because that's what any bike should do and it's what my Bonneville does for me, I still look at it and can't believe it's mine. I'm in the full tank with some fuel stabiliser in because I was always told that an empty tank can form condensation with the temperature changes and that condensation can cause rust in the tank whereas a full tank has no air so cannot get condensation forming but I don't know if that's true but it seems to make sense to me but with these new fuels I think you do need to run it regularly to stop any gumming up of injectors etc.

Oh TAYM, I hope you did better than I did! I forgot to add my fuel stabilizer & top off the tank! Due to full time daily lung cancer radiation & chemotherapy, I asked my dealer to pick up the bike & store it for me, which they did for a pittance. But, the Service Mgr. trusted that I added Sta-Bil & topped it off. Now, I have sour gas and will for oh, say- the next 90 miles!
While in this 6 month slumber it had its break in service done & a few other items installed: R & G sliders, tail tidy.... But, this sour gas gives me an excuse to "open her up!" or "Clean out the carbs", or, my current favorite "Let the canary sing!" Thank heaven's that my bike is only 660cc's, which helps me keep most of my Billy-O behavior somewhat slower than larger, more powerful bikes do.
Is it dry enough to take her out now? Does Suffolk use salt & sand for snowy winter weather? Getting excited just talking about it!

They really are a fabulous bike aren't they? The looks of the chrome tank really is something special and I think I prefer the look with the duel seat. 🤔I fill my tanks to the brim with E5 when not in use and haven't ever really experienced any issues with the fuel degrading. I found that when I had my Thruxton it was egging me on to ride it fast, they really are so much fun😁

Definitely my favorite retro “modern classic” in the Triumph line. The power and panache are unmistakable. I love the chrome edition but it was not available when I bought my British racing green model. The only draw back is the everyday functionality and it was not really suited as my daily commuter so I went back to my GS. In fact, the bike is still at my local dealer and the price has gone down so I’ve considered (don’t tell the wife😂😂) going back and picking it up😮 great review

    those pipes are fine ;;; leaving a bit of fuel in is the worst you can do ;;; it will degrade quickly and can wreck your injection ;; [ may ] , best fill to top to make sure no air in pipe work , with good petrol ;; also helps to stop condensation - which means rust ;;;

I think what has happened a couple of times is that, for some reason (which hopefully I’ve fixed for future videos) it has only recorded in one channel. This means the sound only comes out of the left speaker and not in stereo. Therefore all I can assume is that the left channel on your tv is not working 🤔 sorry I can’t think of any other reason 😕 thanks RH 😁
