Discmans didn't last long and they sucked an the CDs would skip. They got pushed out of the market quickly by Ipods and later digital mp3 players.
6:22 *Ellie's* reaction to seeing the _Mortal Kombat II_ machine in episode 3 doesn't make much sense now. I would have thought she'd see that and feel sad. But she was thrilled and excitedly told the story about how someone she knew had a magazine (or whatever) all about the game. Anyway, her excited reaction seeing that stand up console in the old gas station doesn't quite track now. 🤷🏼♂️
I get excited whenever I find certain things my mom loved. For example she was obsessed with a now discontinued perfume, and when I found a bottle a few months ago I couldn’t stop smiling. I think her reaction seemed normal to me - she got excited to see something that reminded her of home.
I did not dig this episode that much. Up until ep 6 I was fine. But the actual DLC had a good parallel of the warm fond memory with Riley in that Boston mall and the cold lifeless and dangerous Colorado mall interchanged while Ellie was out searching for a suture kit. We got to see the entire date in full detail which was really dragged out for a whole episode. 2 more to go. How are we going to fit the whole game into 1 season? Winter cannials in ep 8, just go straight to the Salt Lake City hospital in the 9th and duke it out I suppose
this was the episode that I was waiting for and even though it was changed differently it still was a good stand out while seeing things we didn't get to see in the game. that I did like
maybe its just because im a lesbian, but this episode was so beautiful and incredibly personal. I didn't think it was boring at all, I really enjoyed seeing Ellie develop and have this meaningful relationship
Not a criticism of you or who you are ….. BUT wasn’t episode 3 just as beautiful? Just asking since it’s a critical topic since Bill and Frank were glossed over in the game. And I agree w/ you
What's interesting is that some things that are mentioned that some easter 🥚 that are mentioned in the last of us comic called American dream where how Ellie and railey and Marlene and why railey wanted to joined the fireflies. It was really cool that it was mentioned while something new to this episode as well.
Really did not need another full episode of backstory. Episode 3 was a pleasant surprise, this episode did not hit anywhere the same. Probably because the DLC was better. Super worried about them trying to finish out the first game in just 2 episodes left..
Definitely should have showed Riley’s end to drive home Ellie’s tone from early on. Maybe they will come back and finish that story but I agree this episode needed a strong close and ended up flat. The timing of the episode was tough as the last few have been stellar. I had low expectations based on that alone.
it is also possible that ellie didnt kill Riley. they were probably waiting it out, when Riley begins or actually already turned the fireflies who is taking Riley to the other QZ shoots her. They didnt notice Ellie's bite mark initially. When they did, they wondered why she hasnt turn yet. Marlene got her chained up and monitored then after
@@jughead18sp This comment made me realize a possible reason that Marlene and the firelies were so eager to experiment on Ellie. The chains show they probably don't think she's human and they wouldn't recruit her even if the experiment didn't kill her. Damn, so cold.
I absolutely love this episode. It just hammers the point of the show 'when you're lost in the darkness look for the light'. The whole flashback is that light for Ellie. It was lovely and heartbreaking seeing the awkward nervousness of Ellie's crush on Riley not daring to even imagine her best friend loving her back. But seeing how much Riley did for Ellie this last day it was heartwarming. Until it wasn't. This was Ellie's tragic loss origin story. In the same way Joel's loss of Sarah informs how he relates to Ellie, Ellie's loss of Riley informs how she relates to Joel. With Riley's loss, she will NOT lose someone close to her ever again. Especially not Joel. And seeing Ellie fight so hard for him, (that handhold before she starts sewing was so impactful) it's pretty much cemented that he will view her the same way now. For better or worse.
One thing I wanna point out that it seems y'all missed; Riley had said "yes" to staying just before the runner attacked. So if only Ellie had been bitten, it seems more likely Riley would've been with her & Joel on this journey, no?
I do wish they would have shown Riley turn. It would have hit harder for me for sure. But still a good episode. Also, what happens after Riley and how does Marlene connect with Ellie (maybe the show will touch on this in the future 🤷🏾♀️)?
Pretty good episode, but this is the first time I have felt like a “book(game) is better person”. I never played the last of us but I knew the story so I finally got around to playing it a week or 2 ago and experienced the DLC fresh, and that ending monologue of Riley after they are bitten just hits a lot harder in the game. It was spliced better w Ellie protecting Joel and really hammered the point of fighting for any sort of time you have left. While the point remains in the show, it did fall a little flat for me. Great acting and again a good show, looking forward to see it wrap up. Great soup boys!
I really enjoyed this episode as a whole. It was very cute, and sort of held up a mirror to episode three. The only thing I was disappointed by (that is by no means a put-down on the show) was the absence of Ellie proclaiming herself the “Brick Fucking Master.” Honestly one of my favorite silly moments from the DLC.
We still don't know how Riley died exactly. Did Ellie have to kill her to fend her off? Did the Fireflies show up and one of them did it? Was Ellie kidnapped by the Fireflies?
I’m not a player of the game and Ngl, I couldn’t tell who was firefly and who was Fedra until like ep 5. Real talk, Just cuz I was more invested in the social relationships and both sides kinda looked to same in terms of clothing and gear. Don’t get it twisted, they plant a bunch of info thru the episodes but it didn’t stick to me as well as the the diff relationships between the characters each episode.
Game spoiler: I am very worried about the pacing of the final 2. There is so much story to wrap up. The cannibal arc deserves so much more than one measly hour but I guess that’s what we’re getting
I know it would spoil the fact that Joel survives but I think the Left Behind DLC should just be in the main game. I think it adds so much more to Joel and Ellie's last conversation before they meet the Fireflies (where they are staring at the giraffes). Ellie is essentially telling Joel "Because of the pain I've went through, I need to see this through to the end, no matter what"
It feels inevitable and foolish for them to take a risk like that, but I think the memories and joy are worth it. This episode reminds me of Everything Everywhere all at Once because those moments of love are worth all the pain life gives us.
Both timeline stories both left me wanting more from the story. I wanted to see how it ended with Ellie and Riley. Was Riley the person that Ellie “hurt” before? What were her and Riley’s reactions when Ellie wasn’t turning? Did Riley or Ellie shoot Riley when they realized that Ellie could survive? How did Ellie meet the fireflies? Did they find her in the mall next to Riley’s body? This part could technically still be explained in a flashback scene I guess talking to Joel in the next episode, especially where they are emotionally right now, so I could still hold out hope for that. I also think it would be nice to hear Joel talk a bit more to Ellie this episode. I don’t know how realistic it would’ve been with his injuries but I think it would have been nice to maybe see him coaching her through suturing or telling her what she needed to get it once she didn’t leave him. Just something. I think them holding hands was nice, but I could’ve had a little more. (Did they not get any First Aid supplies from Jackson when they knew they were on a perilous journey?)
How come Ellie survived?!? (Of course she is immune, what I mean is the other girl turned zombie, so why would she not let her maul her to death?!? Did Ellie shoot her? Did she run?!? Maybe if they had showed us some action at the end it would have made this ep not such a snoozer
It would be annoying but actually it might be better than rushing to the end in 2 short episodes. Still points to the fact that 9 episodes was so fucking retarded. Watch them give the tranny in season 2 15 episodes
I’m surprised because usually it’s not like this but I do not agree with almost any of Beau and Aaron’s takes this season. This episode was so incredibly boring and cliche. The point was to show and important emotional connection for Ellie that was destroyed. As they said at they end, the same impact could have been made with a 30 second-1 minute conversation between Joel and Ellie and would’ve been an important moment of them opening up together. Instead they wasted an entire episode of nothing interesting happening and then when the intriguing pet finally comes, when they’re bit, it cuts away and doesn’t show what happened. How does she realize she’s immune? What happens? Is she forced to kill Riley as a zombie? How does she end up with the fireflies? How does Ellie react not being affected? A flashback of just the part they left out would have been a million times more interesting
The one thing that Is sad that they didn't put was the water gun 🔫 fight and a 🧱 throwing race on 🚗 that was fun and charming but I think this was handled well.
Enjoyed it in this game but thought the episode last night was a tough watch, found myself sighing a little bit. The actresses really didn’t gel together like Bill and Frank and found myself just wanting it to end and move back to present. Probably the first episode I’d say I’ve been disappointed in.
The last episode was my favourite, but this was incredibly boring. Considering there's 2 episodes left now, they have a lot to cover, and are either gunna rush it or skip a lot, this and episode 3 were complete filler and added almost nothing to the plot.
Totally agree. I got no problem with the gay stuff. Just don’t need two full episodes of it when there is plenty of source material to cover that’s being skipped.
It's weird that this didn't feel like a momentum killer for you. I just felt so megh to me. I did like the fedra vs firefly convos. If you're gonna do this and not show Ellie losing, the person seems like a weird choice.
100 percent. Everyone praising this episode like it was the best thing ever. YIKES. 😬 “The performances were Emmy winner worthy.” Huh?? 🤨 I’m very confused, to say the least…
I wouldn't say it was boring, but in conjunction with the last episode, just a momentum killer if the next 2 episodes don't push the narrative forward I'll be disappointed.
Wasn't a big fan of this episode and haven't really been too into it for the last 3-4. Seems to be moving at a really fast pace at times then incredibly slow at others, which is completely fine if done well but I haven't felt much for anyone in the show since episode 3. Even the supposed "big action scene" felt very underwhelming and reminded me a lot of late GOT. Not saying its a bad show by any means, I just feel as someone who hasn't even played the game just watched others it, that its not hitting nearly the emotional beats that the game had. They also really seem to be a fan of introducing a character, then killing them off at the end of the episode and its become a tad bit predictable.
Seriously man, why the praise for such a drag of an episode. The dialogue and pacing is awful. And no…Bella Ramsey isn’t “killing” it. Her lines are irritatingly bad and not one sentence she says doesn’t have “fucking” in it. 2 good episodes out of 7 at best.
Because Joe wants to seem progressive and over loves every episode with gay shit in it. Bella Ramsey has some moments of decent acting but in general she is pretty shit. This episode was boring and terribly acted imo. But I'm just homophobic right.
They don’t want to get their channel took down lad! That’s the only explanation I could come up with. This show is HORRIBLE!! I’m glad some of us are being honest
This was horrendously boring. No matter how great their acting is, no one would rewatch this episode. Although I would say Bella takes the cake there, the other girl’s acting was kind of stereotypically annoying and it doesn’t matter that it didn’t “advance the plot” either, it was just so slow and lacking of emotion. Just look at ep 3, that didnt advance thebplot either and it was brilliant. This show is in dire need of zombie action asap. "its all about the people and how they are affected by everything" can only take you so far.
Yeah I’ve had several people call me homophobic/other things for not liking this episode, when episode 3 with Bill and Frank was one of my favorites if not my favorite episode so far. Great argument! 😒
What is the point of this episode, you spend a whole time with Ellie and you don’t learn anything about her that could have been assumed. Waste of an episode and a complete momentum killer
Discmans came out mid ’90s. You guys must be on the gear? This was the worst ep this season. I found myself checking how long to go which I have never done before. The fact that the audience already knew that Ellie got bit in the mall and then to spend so much time on this flashback was really bad writing and directing. The acting remains great tho. Flashbacks mostly have worked up to this point, but the main character that we’ve spent every ep with was knocking on deaths door yet in their wisdom, momentum killer with a love story for almost a whole episode??? We weren’t left on a cliffhanger after ep 2 btw, so don’t compare with ep 3. It’s ep 7 of 9??? Think more people who know the game seemed to like it, myself I’m just a viewer. The showrunners have said before they’re only adding bits from the game if it is an improvement… think they missed the mark here, sorry…
Just add too how we were shown by Tess in ep 2 once they’re plastered onto the wall with the fungus attaching them so they’re done… how funny to see one miraculously jump off a wall 😅
Trust me, compared to the way the game handled this plot point, the show did much better. Not great by any means, but certainly better. In the game instead of being stabbed by a bat joel falls two stories out of a window and is impaled through a rusty metal rebar. The same events as the show take place where he falls off the horse and then it cuts to black, picking up with Joel miraculously healed and only needing antibiotics to get back to his old self. The entire story with Riley and how she even saved joel didn’t come until they released the dlc, which if you don’t know is content that comes a while after the game initially releases, so people had no idea how Ellie kept joel alive for months until they released the part of the game you just watched on TV. Once again it’s definitely not perfect, but seeing as how it was handled in the game I think they did a great job adapting it and trying to make it fit with the pacing for a show that only has one season to cover a long ass game
@@reecedubinsky1157 yeah I see your point to a degree, and like I said most gamers liked it for the reasons you stated. But as a general viewer I like the story of what was shown but its placement here and the length just felt like it stalled the actual plot line. Again, we already knew how Ellie got bitten and we also are very aware of her feelings towards Joel, (Ellie going to the door - was the director actually thinking that the audience would believe she was going to leave him there?? Stupid if that’s what they were trying). As you said cramming this in with what’s still to come this season I just hope they can round things up without feeling rushed… anyway, no one’s opinion is right or wrong, just how it came across to me 👍
I guess most HBO shows bore you then. The Wire, Six Feet Under, Game of Thrones: these are stories that pride themselves on dialogue and themes. If you don’t enjoy that kind of stuff, maybe TV shows are just not for you 🤷♀️

@@craigturner6565 why don't you shush you cunt. These are genuine problems with the show, you can still like something and critic it, not everyone has to suck off the whole show.
@@cutiepatootie1990 its not confirmed that that will even happen in the show, they have changed many things and thousands of people have played the game and it doesn't ruin it for them. But you kinda deserve it for reading the comments.
@SLHD It's just common decency to not put spoilers in comments. If someone told you Joel was going to die while you were first playing the game that would have lessened the experience when you see it actually happening.
That’s part of Ellie’s personality tbh. She’s constantly trying to be an adult when she’s still a child at heart. Characters are allowed to be annoying sometimes - they don’t have to be perfect.
Nice you noticed Ellie is a child. but a 13 year old child who has a proto-sexual relationship with a 17 year old? if this was a 17 year old boy who kisses a 13 year old girl - imagine the hysterical cancel mob. but since its gay its okay. I don’t think it is objectionable but can we give heterosexuality with the same respect and dramatic license?
I don't agree with you. While the episode itself was fine, the show definitively lacks "meat" or "connective tissue". In the game, its the gameplay, in the show, it's just not there. A friend who didnt play the game and liked the first episodes now just asks me "What's all of this? Why are we following these two persons? What's all of this about?". Also we have several key scenes now which have been simply better in the game than in the show. Why change amazing writing? Why cut iconic scenes? I increasingly don't get the writers/directors decision and think as a whole the show is actually not very good. Maybe its time to admit that some materials are not meant to be adapted and TLOU is one of them.
Isnt it crazy how gay people make up 6% of the population yet they've already had multiple instances of representation in this show where most of the population is dead? Its almost as if naughty dog is known for pandering to specific audiences based on their political views that they like to interject into their franchise
Isn’t it crazy how both instances in the show so far were in the game when it came out 10 years ago. It’s also not like those people would just die out completely either, so what’s wrong with showing what it might be like for those people in that type of situation? We’ve seen the same zombie tropes over and over, but since this story that features literal human fungus zombies has a few gay characters it’s too unrealistic or something for you? Grow a pair and stop getting angry anytime you see gay people. They’re people, they exist, and if seeing them simply existing bothers you it’s probably time to do some inward thinking lol.
@@reecedubinsky1157 firstly, wrong. There was 1 line of dialogue about bill in the game that was shoehorned in by neil cuckmann because he was upset he had no creative control over the first game (any hennig did) and by the time the dlc was being made the studio was already starting to purge the original dev team and starting to hire woke liberals and they gave creative control to cuckmann at that point, and that was also when amy was fired from the company. So no. The original game had nothing to do with LGBT BS romances whatsoever until cuckmann took over the studio. Just because this is a zombie story doesnt mean you get to throw any sense of realism out of the window. And as I said the representation they are giving for gay people is very obviously only put there to pander, because with 6% of the population being gay there is basically no chance of having this many gay characters still alive in that universe, and the hilarious part is that s2 will have even more of them but you will continue to act like its normal when its blatant agenda pushing. I think you need to do a bit of research into amy hennig and how she was let go by the studio and what neil cuckmann did with his creative control.
You think this is bad, wait until they do season 2, 15 hour long episodes of tranny love. All the boxes will get ticked and more. And everybody will love it because they are too scared to be negative and have a real opinion.
@@13_faces clearly don’t want to have a rational discussion and also obviously harbor some personal rancor for the creator of the source material so this is just an an inherent bias for you any time you wish to seriously discuss this show/game with someone. Were you on the creative team of the first game watching how these plot points came to be? The only evidence you have of these supposed shoehorned in points is once again your own personal dislike of the creator and what you personally believe his intentions to be when creating media. And like I said, obviously not every single gay person on earth would be dead, and we don’t see every single living person in this world so you can just assume there’s still way more straight people but the game is following some of the few survivors. They’re just people like I said. Why is it so hard for you to watch their stories? It’s not like the show is devoid of straight people either the main character for god sake is like one of most traditionally masculine protagonists in gaming. Part 2 literally just follows up on Ellie’s sexuality and has lev who transitioned/disguises as a boy to escape being a practical slave as a female seraphite, which is pretty reasonable.
@@reecedubinsky1157 @Reece Dubinsky what exactly wasn't rational about my response? I have done my due diligence into this studio. You call him the "creator of the source material" but that is a false statement. Amy Hennig is the original creator and creative mind behind the first game, as well as the uncharted games. As I said, do some research into how she was let go by the studio along with 90% of her dev team. This isnt something I am making up. This actually happened. Also I'd like for you to look up some of the current developers on naughty dog on Twitter and just take a look at their profiles. The majority of them are angry blue haired feminists who tweet constantly about hating white men. Do you not take that as a sign of what happened to this studio? It has nothing to do with what "I think his intentions are" when you can literally find a quote from neil cuckmann himself explicitly stating that he interjects his personal political views into the franchise. Why is it hard for me to watch their stories? Because it is unnatural. Did you know there are studies that have determined that seeing gay relationships elicits the same feelings in humans as witnessing maggots eating rotten flesh? Media is created for a majority of viewers to enjoy. Gay people are far from a majority so why are they constantly being represented? This is a story about humans in an apocalypse. That is what the story is advertised as. It is not advertised as "the nuances of gay and lesbian relationships and the hardships of being transexual".
Bella Ramsey is the worst thing about this show. She’s just miscast in the role I think. This series is good but it seems to be more about pushing gay relationships and left wing politics than surviving a zombie apocalypse. Not sure about it now. Really hope they don’t go on to make TLOU2.
God this episode sucked, we've seen ellie lose someone and have been told she's lost others. Having an entire episode dedicated to it was completely unnecessary and really ruined the momentum they had built up. I really think the flashback could have been cut down to 30 minutes and spent the other 30 minutes establishing joel and ellies relationship more.
Bella's acting was so good
I do wish they would have shown Riley turn.
Game spoiler:
I am very worried about the pacing of the final 2. There is so much story to wrap up. The cannibal arc deserves so much more than one measly hour but I guess that’s what we’re getting
Stop spoiling the show.
@@bobbytables464 added a disclaimer
I know it would spoil the fact that Joel survives but I think the Left Behind DLC should just be in the main game. I think it adds so much more to Joel and Ellie's last conversation before they meet the Fireflies (where they are staring at the giraffes). Ellie is essentially telling Joel "Because of the pain I've went through, I need to see this through to the end, no matter what"
It feels inevitable and foolish for them to take a risk like that, but I think the memories and joy are worth it. This episode reminds me of Everything Everywhere all at Once because those moments of love are worth all the pain life gives us.
Whenever HBO an episode I'm half worried that is gonna affect my sleep schedule
Do y’all have a DnD podcast?
This episode was the most I’ve liked Ellie throughout the show and for that reason the episode gets a thumbs up from me
How come Ellie survived?!? (Of course she is immune, what I mean is the other girl turned zombie, so why would she not let her maul her to death?!? Did Ellie shoot her? Did she run?!? Maybe if they had showed us some action at the end it would have made this ep not such a snoozer
Ellie mentioned that she killed someone so thats the assumption for now.
I'm just worried they won't get to the end of the first game this season.. how lame would that be
It would be annoying but actually it might be better than rushing to the end in 2 short episodes.
You do know this is exactly in game where left behind would take place. That's y they did this episode here.
The last of us is PREMIER television. I might say it’s on BB/BCS level of quality
So Bella never noticed the infected stuck to the wall during her days being stationed in the mall? seemed like she knew the mall pretty well!
I cherish every single episode and second of the show. Best series right now!!!
STOP IT!!😂😂😂
Enjoyed it in this game but thought the episode last night was a tough watch, found myself sighing a little bit. The actresses really didn’t gel together like Bill and Frank and found myself just wanting it to end and move back to present. Probably the first episode I’d say I’ve been disappointed in.
This one was a snoozer
The last episode was my favourite, but this was incredibly boring. Considering there's 2 episodes left now, they have a lot to cover, and are either gunna rush it or skip a lot, this and episode 3 were complete filler and added almost nothing to the plot.
Thank you bro everyone scared to admit that
Totally agree. I got no problem with the gay stuff. Just don’t need two full episodes of it when there is plenty of source material to cover that’s being skipped.
@@itsallaboutthatbass8558 this episode was the most accurate episode to the source material since episode 2.

It's weird that this didn't feel like a momentum killer for you. I just felt so megh to me. I did like the fedra vs firefly convos. If you're gonna do this and not show Ellie losing, the person seems like a weird choice.
This was soooooooooo boring. This show is in dire need of zombie action asap
100 percent. Everyone praising this episode like it was the best thing ever. YIKES. 😬 “The performances were Emmy winner worthy.” Huh?? 🤨 I’m very confused, to say the least…
They weren’t bad, just nothing all that special.
I wouldn't say it was boring, but in conjunction with the last episode, just a momentum killer if the next 2 episodes don't push the narrative forward I'll be disappointed.
@@sovereign1160I'm 28. The episode was boring.
18:11: 😳😳😳😳
Seems like they haven’t left themselves enough time imo
Agree and I thought this episode was aweful. Dragged on and caused the dialogue to be forced. Guess I have high expectations.
This episode was really boring to me tbh
The other girl was terrible! All her acting was so fucking cringe

I hate that they are trying so hard to make Ellie look like a 'badass' by making half of her lines say 'fuck' or 'shit', it's so annoying

HATED IT! Worst ever I turned it off -
Lmao I should’ve turned it off as well!! Do ya plan on finishing the first season still?
I don't agree with you. While the episode itself was fine, the show definitively lacks "meat" or "connective tissue". In the game, its the gameplay, in the show, it's just not there. A friend who didnt play the game and liked the first episodes now just asks me "What's all of this? Why are we following these two persons? What's all of this about?". Also we have several key scenes now which have been simply better in the game than in the show. Why change amazing writing? Why cut iconic scenes? I increasingly don't get the writers/directors decision and think as a whole the show is actually not very good. Maybe its time to admit that some materials are not meant to be adapted and TLOU is one of them.
i skimmed through this episode man, it was dreadfully boring
