I had the previous version for 16 years, worn every day and 100% reliable until it started restarting itself every day recently. Just replaced it with the latest version, loving it esp the dd.m feature. Thanks for showing us how to use this great watch.
It's quite a letdown that this watch that has been the same at its core for 40 years, still doesnt allow you to set up alarms in a calendar. The watch knows what date and time it is, down to the second and it (now) has 5 alarms. But you can only turn them on or off and they will chime daily. I mean, come on.
This module is an all-time classic. Thanks very much for this excellent tutorial. Logical and efficient presentation, all the features, no wasted time. The mites crawling around on the watch aren't bothering me at all. Nope, not at all.
What an excellent, well presented video. I used your entire tutorial to set up my new watch. This was much easier than trying to read the tiny text in the instruction manual. Many thanks.
Thank you for this detailed review on the watch. When I purchased it, I was already having buyers remorse. I already have about 15 other Casio's and G Shocks, including the 5600, 5610 and 5600bb. The minute I held it in my hands, I knew it was special. The weight, the texture of the band is unlike any of my other Casio's. I can honestly say this will probably be my ONE and DONE over all my other watches. Kinda sad, but it is what it is. If you're contemplating getting this watch... Just do it! You won't regret it. Love mine!
Got my GW 5000U yesterday morning. Immediately watched your video. Extremely helpful while assisting me setting my functions, love this made in Japan G-Shock. NEW SUB here from CA.
I really like the small bar indicators on the bottom of the screen. Some other G-Shock models take up more space (like an 1/8 of the screen!) just to tell you battery status. On this model, the information is there, it’s easy to see, and it’s subtle and out of the way. Also, I use countdown timers much more often than I use a stopwatch. So it’s a very nice feature to have because it can be a pain to have to do all that with a big, flat iPhone. One complaint I have is that the alarms only seem to beep for 10 seconds, then go off. The tone isn’t very loud. So if you don’t sleep lightly enough to wake up in the 10 seconds of beeping, you’re likely to oversleep. In my opinion if Casio really wants to make this model the cat’s meow, they’d add the function to allow alarms to be set for certain days. I don’t have to wake up at the same time all 7 days a week, for example. So it’d be nice to have a way to preset alarms for specific days. If Casio updates the 5610 to include this, it might be the most useful watch on Earth.

I have had the watch for a few days now. Best watch I have ever owned!!! The functionality is perfect. This is everything I have ever wanted in a watch minus the watch band, its a tad to small for me.
As someone who owns both I hate to admit I prefer my 5610; it fits my smaller (6.25 in)wrist way better, is significantly lighter, has buttons that are way easier to push (especially having to hold down the adjust button in several modes to set things…it gets really cumbersome to do this with the 5000u and those buttons do not get easier to push as you wear it which is a bummer), and there’s something about the red line and layout that harkens back directly to the 1983 DW5000C that I absolutely love. While being very sleek and under the radar, the monotone symmetrical “Hero” layout of the 5000u just don’t evoke the same feeling for me even though it mimics the construction of the original with the steel core. It gets a bit boring after a while. Anyways, enjoy your 5610! Never a wrong choice!
Thank you so much for these videos! I’m new to Casio G-Shocks and your videos make learning how to set them up a total breeze. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to make these. Thumbed up!
I had the original 5610 in the "half-blacked-out" version (1BER -- negative display with white and gray accents on the dial) but after hearing about the U versions here on WatchGeek last summer, I bought a new one with the default retro colour scheme last September. A double win, as I was able to swap the modules between the two cases in minutes, so now I have the grayscale looks with the much more legible positive display and improved module, and the wife got a "new" G-Shock for occasional use. And to my eye the goldish hue of the digits on the negative display actually look better with the dial colours of the basic model. I have two gripes about the U module: although the longer duration of the backlight is a welcome improvement, the directional and spotty nature of the LED is a bit annoying, the other thing is that the U module - at least mine - synchs much slower than the old one (it takes about twice as long). Anyway, both the old and the newer model/module is highly recommended, any one of the 5610 family is good addition to any watch collection. (I'd say a perfect one half of a 2-piece "collection"). Nice tutorial by the way, but that's just expected here anyway. :)
Exactly.. My two piece would be what I'm currently wearing, skx007 on my left and this retro Gshock on my right. Been doing this every Friday for a couple months😁 -really like that Seiko uses blue for Saturday and red for Sunday on the day wheel❤
Same though here, I have the 5600-B1ER and can't read the time unless i bring the watch at the perfect angle or fire up the lighting. The inverted screen looks cool on internet but it is not.
*_Thinking of getting a Casio G-Shock soon. I stumbled upon your Channel and became an instant subscriber. I'm totally impressed with your knowledge of G-Shock features and functions. Another video of yours I've watched after this compared so many G-Shock models. Shared both videos on social media. Thank you and keep doing what you do best._*
I just received my 5610U and watched your video. It was lots of help, thank you! I've owned a new Rolex GMT Master and it was crap when it came to time keeping. I also have a new Omega Speedmaster Professional which keeps very good time, at least till the mainspring broke recently. I may be wearing this watch more than I expected.
As always amaizing reviews. I guess the auto repeat and the alarm to set day and monthly are a big loss, but having the actual time meanwhile the chrono is running and the dual time are very big improvements.
If you don't mind asking me this: are you satisfied with the BGD5650? I'm undecided to get one myself, the functions are the same but I like the monochrome look much better. I'm also not sure about the size but I tend to think it still looks more masculine and not so ridiculous small like a F 91W for instance....
I'm waiting for my G to arrive... I saved this video for later. Thank you for taking your time to do such a detailed and informational video, this will be a great help :)
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much for this. I have one question: I received this watch new yesterday and I am still letting it charge fully. I attempted to “get” by holding the bottom right set button, but I received an “error” message while it was trying to sync. Any tips or advice of what that means? I’m guessing it needs to fully-charge and then I should try to re-sync it.

Thanks for the kind words, and yes, the 5610 was always one of the best bang for buck gshocks put there
Same though here, I have the 5600-B1ER and can't read the time unless i bring the watch at the perfect angle or fire up the lighting. The inverted screen looks cool on internet but it is not.
Cheers for the video! Very well made! May ask what sort of bugs are those? The ones that we can see on the watch throughout the video. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for your tutorials man!! This is the second Gshock I set up immediately after buying it, thanks to your videos!!
Hello: thank you so much for the setup on this watch , and thank you for your videos.
Have a great day.
Great coverage & explanation regarding this casio setup/functions, manuals never make sense thank you from the UK.
This is so helpful! Love the tutorial and love the watch. Thank you.
Best tutorial on UA-cam.
This guy is amazing....its definitely a thumbs up from me .
Great Watch! Great tutorial video, thank you sir!
You are very good teacher ❤
Great tutorial. Easy to follow. Got my 5000u set up the way I want it. Thanks
Just got my 5610 today and man this helped out a lot!
As always amaizing reviews. I guess the auto repeat and the alarm to set day and monthly are a big loss, but having the actual time meanwhile the chrono is running and the dual time are very big improvements.
thank you, helpful, and worked for setting a Baby G bgd-5650-1bjf very nicely!
If you don't mind asking me this: are you satisfied with the BGD5650? I'm undecided to get one myself, the functions are the same but I like the monochrome look much better. I'm also not sure about the size but I tend to think it still looks more masculine and not so ridiculous small like a F 91W for instance....
Thanks for making this tutorial video as I would never of figured out how to set this watch up without it.
Just got my GW5000U today. This has been very helpful for setting everything up. Thank you!
I'm waiting for my G to arrive... I saved this video for later. Thank you for taking your time to do such a detailed and informational video, this will be a great help :)
Got my first Casio Gshock GW-5000U-1jf and I’m in love with the watch. Thanks for the video it was very informative.
Where did you get it?
eBay
Thank you so much, I got 5610 and set it up watching this video today❤
Thank you. This is the tutorial I needed and it is perfect.
The best g shock for the price. Good informative video. Happy New Year to you 🎉
Excellent tutorial, my watch has just arrived & I’ve set up as I want it by going through the video, many thanks
Thanks for the great informative tutorial. Helped a lot. Just purchased this watch, but with the negative face.
I love this watch so much it's a homage to the first ever G-Shock the DW-5000C from 1983 but it's packed with awesome technology 👍🏻👍🏻
Very good video. Good closeup, detailed instructions and easy to understand English. Very well done. Just bought this watch on Amazon because of this video. I really like it. This isn’t my first Casio and won’t be the last.
Thanks for the awesome video
Absolutely amazing and detailed tutorial. Thank you so much! Got this watch today in the blacked out solar powered version and was able to set the watch using your video
Ah what the heck I’m gonna subscribe. 😁👍🏼
Thank you so much for this detailed guide! I have the G-Shock GAW-100B-1AJF and I love it but I'm seriously considering this beauty for my birthday! You can't go wrong with Casio hahaha Thanks again for such great content in the channel! 🤘🏼
Thank you for a detailed tutorial… this makes it easy to learn. Appreciate your efforts !!!
